I would prefer to replace inactives, but with the relative scarcity of them (and T6 not responding to my PMs) that seems like a dream. The bank cap is a method of keeping players active. If they knew that they could just bank all of their money for 4 turns and then spend it at one time, why wouldn’t they? This way they have to send me actions every ~3 rounds or so otherwise their bank doesn’t grow. And finally, there is skill involved, but it looks different from strategic skill. The name of the game for the bigger states is to keep a balance of power in the UN/world, and the goal of the smaller states is to grow without anyone noticing. Plus, the game is inherently unfair. Someone starts as the US, someone starts as Eritrea, one of them is better. Objectively.

If I legitimately tried to balance this game perfectly then I would have spend a month hashing the ideas around, only to give up on my ideas of running it.

OdinismII Event: (Sweden did not choose)

It’s past niches and back allies now, and has come to be a very notable minority religion among Sweden’s population. Not quite as large as Christianity, but not out of its order of magnitude. Now, however, even the liberals have started questioning it. Why is a government that was recently separated from religion spreading a new one? What is it trying to gain? Now that even the left wing has begun to make noise, you know you’re in for trouble.
All countries with OdinismII (Sweden only) must choose:
1) Embrace Odinism: Maximum Stability set to 5 until OdinismIII is complete.
2) Appease the liberals: lose 500/1000 OdinismII, can no longer spread religions.

The Estonian Monarchic Government:

Artur Tarvas decides to make good on the Russian promise of 6 months’ time for internal debate, and has postponed his announcement of democracy versus monarchy. He does urge that the Russian President understand that at the local and regional levels the population of Estonia will have large amounts of autonomy and that the Monarch is only for external political matters, military coordination, and internal peacekeeping.

Germany’s Weapons Counterdevelopment:

Germany and Russia haven’t had a good track record ever. Their recent histories are sprinkled with invasions of each other, as well as nearly four and a half decades of occupation. It’s no wonder why Germany came to dominate the technological side of warfare in Europe: West Germany, and then later Germany, was always the first step of an invasion from the East. They were practically forced to stay ahead of nearly every other country to survive, as they’ve done for centuries. Initially when Germany had heard of railguns mounted on tanks they were skeptical and humored, but as it became clear that the Russians were not joking about their new tank development and even threatening invasion into a sovereign NATO country, Germans became worried. The Leopard 2 was aging and low on stock. How would it fare against a Russian invasion?

Thus was born the Leopard 3. A redesign from the ground up based on modern engine, computer, ballistic, and armor technologies, the Leopard 3 is to be the next widespread main battle tank. Without knowing the exact details of the Russian Rail-Tanks, the Leopard 3 is being designed as a foil to the current ideology of railguns being slow firing, long range penetrating weapons. Initial predictions claim that the L 3 will be able to cross the battlefield remarkably fast, with an entirely new cannon that is said to be able to pierce the tougher parts of American Abrams tanks. Right now Germany does not plan to sell the tanks, as it did with the Leopard 2, but it has reached out to France, Spain, and Italy in hopes that they will join the project.

Egypt Crisis:

Egypt is a normal country with non-imperialistic tendencies, which is why the world was shocked when an over-eager general declared a coup and began to lay siege to Cairo. Unlike the past Estonia coup, however, there was no time of upheaval and the general failed to capture major supply points quickly. A relief force briefly lifted the siege for enough time to evacuate nearly all major politicians. Later it was lifted entirely by the mostly loyal forces that decided to side with the established government. The current president, having been a general himself, managed to efficiently dispose of the attacking forces and investigate the origins of the coup. He has announced that there are several leads that he can follow but he requires funding from the UN if he is to move forward. Alternatively he suggests that the UN can simply take over the investigation and do it themselves, he doesn’t care.

Vote:
1) Come up with 600B to “convince” people to talk, funding the Egyptian investigation. The UN would like to once again state that it is against “bribery” in all forms, but subsidizing companies and similar economic forms of compensation are completely valid. (Investigation completes in Spring 2019)
2) Take over the investigation yourselves. Probably slightly more reliable, but what you gain in money will be lost in time. (Investigation proceeds for two rounds, done in the Summer of 2019)
3) Do nothing. (Vetoing will yield “Do Nothing”)

Switzerlime Ascending:

Switzerlime has achieved the necessary stats to become a superpower. If I had time there would be flavor text here but I’ll save that for the regalia.

Vote:

1) Allow Switzerlime to ascend unimpeded.
2-1) Destabilize it before it can take power! (Lower Stability by 1)
2-2) And run a smear campaign against the military! (Additionally Lower Military size by 1)
2-3) And run propaganda to demoralize them! (Additionally Lower Power by 1)

Veto) The UK can veto Switzerlime’s ascension. This will lower the stability of Switzerlime and the UK by 1, and prevent it from ascending for 2 turns. (Thus there cannot be another Switz ascending event until summer 2019)

(Works the same as before)

Lot’s of stuff to divide y’all on this update. Also, Thanks UC for providing a divisive topic without me. I was worried that everyone was going to sit passively until they were 9/9/9/9/9.

Winter 2018
Map

World:

  • Estonia’s monarchy threatened. Update below.
  • Egypt had a coup which they managed to handle excellently. Vote below.
  • Canada has elections, and the current party falls out of power. Spikeabc is dropped from the game. People who had traded with him, find new partners.

USA; 1050B (+700B income)
Trade Agreements: UK, Brazil, Hungay
Huge, Big, Professional, Wealthy, Stable
Research: Stealth Armors (250B/500B) (Done Autumn 2020)
* The US dumps 250B into its stealth Armors.
* The US also spends 600B attempting to increase its stability, but Americans are not quite yet willing to fully trust the government after the presidential suicide of a while ago. (Stability increase failed)

Norway; 0B (+850 income)
Trade Agreements: Denmark, Eritrea, Sweden
Average, Average, Invincible, Loaded, Unshakable
Research: None
* Norway spends 500B spreading the word of Odin, OdinismI increased to 650/1000.
* Norway spends 1050B to increase the size of its military. (Military size increase)
* Norway spends 1000B increasing the size of its reserves. (Reserves increase)

Alternative Energy, construction (100B/1000B) (Done Autumn 2020)
* Switzerlime gives 100B to Estonia to repair the damages done by the revolution and the purge. Estonia thanks Switzerlime, suggesting that it might be more lucrative to drop trade with Brazil in favor of Estonia.
* Switzerlime spends 100B increasing the quality of life of its soldiers, in an attempt to prevent anything like the mass demoralization of last quarter.
* Switzerlime spends 100B increasing the funding for its biodegrading Styrofoam research.
* Switzerlime spends 100B subsidizing its new alternative energy methods. While these production methods are far more efficient than their fossil fuel counterparts, this is only just enough to lay a foundation for future projects.
* Switzerlime spends 350B to recruit more soldiers. This just barely misses the mark, however, and the relative size of the army remains the same.

South Korea; 2000B (+500B income)

* The UAE spends 100B finalizing the military reforms of earlier, resulting in a power increase for its military. (Power Increase)
* The UAE is inspired by its Russian friends and begins working on its own version of a rail gun tank. (600B)

Veto Available
Trade Agreements: Switzerlime, USA
Big, Average, Professional, Prosperous (close to Wealthy), Solid

* The UK spends 400B attempting to increase its economy, but it is not enough to catapult the economy out of the recent decline.
* The UK spends 300B attempting to optimize its drone technology, as well as training for the operators. Since there has already been large gains in this field recently, only marginal increases are expected. However, these margins are not infantesimal.

* Denmark sponsors huge developments of alternative energy, using its new technologies. By devoting 250B to each of Wind, Hydropower, and Geothermal, as well as giving renewable energy grants and tax cuts, Denmark gets well on its way to energy independence.

Myhome, is it possible for a player who ends up out of the game to re-sign as another country?

Sadly no. That would mess certain things up, like the supposed neutrality of the new state. Imagine if Germany took the Netherlands, and the netherlands player came back as France and nuked Germany in spite. There would be no reason for France to do something so harsh, but it is done…

LT;DR: no.

Alek Schwarzmund

He had to sit down. Alek was an intensely patriotic man, and some of the high officials that Applebottom was probably talking about he knew personally. For the past 4 years, controlled by a man, a single man, in search of profit. The German nation was for Germans, not for some mad scientist to exploit for personal gain. His main problem with the whole deal was the man behind the throne, for he did not care about superweapons. If anything, Germany should have the weapon, but not when they were the sword in some other man’s armory. He was what had to go, not the research. But if they both stayed or went together, well… Alek put his nation first.

A moment of thought later and Alek realized why he was here with these powerful lunatics. He was a German military man and political activist. He was their cover. Needless to say, but this ragtag group was going to be conspicuous, and there was no way to get them across the entirety of Germany secretly. Not without someone who knew how. Jesus he needed a drink. Why did there have to be a bar fight? Why couldn’t it have been France or Switzerland?

Alek sat down on a chair and put his face in his hand, thinking about how everything he had worked for was a sham.

Research: Weaponized Lasers, (500B/500B) (Done winter 2021)
Research Labs (500B/300B) (Done Autumn 2019)
* The UAE spends 550B on retraining its military for Power, but just falls short of sweeping reforms.
* The UAE diverts 600B to spurring military reserves, and it succeeds. (Reserves boost)
* The UAE experiences a huge wave of nationalism and unprecedented amounts of people enlist. (Military size increase)

The UK; 50B (+800B income) [Superpower]
Veto Available
Trade Agreements: Switzerland, Canada, USA
Big, Average, Professional, Prosperous, Solid
Research: None.
* The UK spends 200B establishing a universal income that all inhabitants can claim, so long as they are legally in the country. Normally, this would cause a flock of immigration from poorer countries, but due to the UK’s more stringent immigration control from months ago, this causes no issues. Economists predict that weird effects will be seen down the road in the labor and service industry, but at the moment it is well liked throughout the general populace. (UBI implemented)
* The UK spends money increasing security around the prime minister. (200B, Ministerial security buff)

Hungary; 450B (+450B income)
Trade Agreements: New Zealand, USA
Undersized, Tiny, Professional, Poor, Shaky (Close to guarded)
Research: Research Labs (done)
* Hungary’s labs complete, giving it a decent research discount.
* Hungary spends 500B stimulating the industrial sector and the sector booms, however the other sectors of the economy fall with the Chinese recession, and it all balances out. (GDP does not change)

Estonia; 250B (+200 income)
Trade Agreements: None.
Miniscule, Tiny, Draft, Poor, Collapsing
Research: None.
* Estonia’s research lapses due to funding.
* Estonia spends 400B attempting to raise security. Estonia fails to raise it, however, because its citizens are too unsure of the current government to rally behind it.

Russia; 1150B (+750B income)
Trade Agreements: UAE, Canada, South Korea
Big, Huge, Trained, Prosperous, Guarded
Research: Permanent Space Habitation (done)
Railgun Tanks (1000B/600B) (Done Spring 2020)
* Permanent Space Habitation completes. Russia now possesses the ability to keep humans healthy in space for an indefinite amount of time. The math works out that being in a gravity field of less than half of one g will still require a large amount of materials to construct, but keeping humans safe in 0 g has become doable.

Denmark; 950B (+650B income)
Trade Agreements: Norway, Eritrea
Mediocre, Average, Trained, Wealthy, Unshakable
Research: Biodegradable plastics and styrofoams (600B/300B) (Done Spring 2019)
Advanced Recycling (600B/500B) (Done Autumn 2019)
* Denmark spends 500B each on its military and reserves, managing to boost both. (Military and reserves increase.)

Eritrea; 0B (+700B income)
Trade Agreements: Denmark, Norway, Sweden
Big, Sizable, Militia, Average, Unstable
Research: None
* Eritrea spends 1150B on increasing the power of the military, succeeding at raising its power. The power will also increase Spring 2019. (Power increase, Power delayed increase for Spring 2019)
* Eritrea spends 1100B on spreading Islam and converting Christians. Eritrea, already being highly stratified by religion, does not escape without feeling social repercussions. (Islam is now dominant religion, Stability drop)
* Eritrea feels the economic repercussions of Sweden’s economic fall. (GDP decrease.)

Sweden; 2000B (+750 income)
Trade Agreements: Switzerland, Eritrea, Norway
Mediocre, Tiny, Veteran, Prosperous, Solid
Research: None
* The Swedish economy feels the pressure of the falling demand from China. (GDP decrease)

2) Appease the liberals: lose 500/1000 OdinismII, can no longer spread religions.

China Economy Falling:
China’s market stabilizes, but not before continuing to affect the world economy. (2 countries at random lose a GDP.)

The Estonian Monarchic Government:

Supporters of the Pretender, Diplomatically: USA, UK, UAE, New Zealand, Switzerland. Having so many more supporters than opposers, Artur Tarvas is sound in his claim to Estonia. Gonkeymonkey and his regime is permanently ousted from Estonia. After several months, Tarvas declares his government to be the First Order of Estonia: a very cleverly drawn up elective monarchy that emphasizes local politics which are popularly elected. The monarchy, however, is chosen by an independent system which is based on appointed governors who are held responsible by the local mayors. Artur predicts that political parties will take much longer to exert power since the governors are not beholden to them, but to the king.

Estonia asks for monetary donations to help recover from the damage that the month of anarchy has done to it.

Estonia also makes a halfhearted attempt to press for crimes against humanity to be charged against the previous government, but lets it drop when it gets little support.

You can easily cut that price by $500 by getting rid of the unnecessary extremities, like a gaming keyboard ($200???), mouse, headset, and external storage. Also the SSD is overkill, you only need like 256, with a 1T hard drive that costs significantly less. Jesus you overdid that thing.

Applebottom would be ashamed of you. And Alek of me. No, last day submissions are fine, but submissions just before an update complicate things, and non-submissions twice in a row piss me off.

I think I might start kicking players for being gone for too long. I’m not sure, I’ll have to think about it, because updating an inactive nation still takes a decent amount of time, and if they don’t seem to be coming back then I don’t really care to spend time on them, really.

So, there are two reasons that I have to push the update back to tomorrow. One is that I am a lazy procrastinating untrustworthy host who left too many real life things to do on Sunday night. The second thing is that 7 of you got your actions to me on time.

7.

Of 14.

And there were 7 of you last round too. And that time out of 15. I don’t know why only half of you are managing to get your actions in to me on time, but seriously guys, that’s pretty much ridiculous. So I’m pushing the update back to tomorrow in an attempt to get all of those inactive players to actually do something, as well as to not kill myself.

Update schedule is now Mondays and Thursdays. Thanks for living with me. I think.

Alek Schwarzmund

“Ah, Rickard Trassel, I’ve heard of you! Quite the successful buisiness that you managed to whip up around here. I’d toast to it if there were any wine left,” Alek said, smiling at the altercation over by the bar, “but alas I think we are just out.” Despite his calm outer appearance, Alek was quite unhinged by Rickard. Due to the English Islands being somewhat far from Germany, the politics there were not often discussed in his homeland, but Alek would be damned if he forgot Rickard’s name. He was wealthy to the utmost degree, far more than Alek, and quite unabashed. Debased. There was no evidence, really, but Alek had known enough political circles to see that there weren’t rumors for nothing. This man was dangerous, but perhaps not quite as much as the rest. It would help to stay on his good side, though.

Alek thought for a few moments before becoming absolutely terrified. If Rickard was here, then the stakes were much higher than he was comfortable with. The beings around here could be ridiculously powerful, and Alek had an immediate sense of lack of depth. Why was he here? What could he bring to the table that the others couldn’t? Truly, Alek doubted that any of them could replicate exactly his mental achievements, but what use would they be if the sidewards glance from some of these people (loose term) could kill him?

Alek Schwarzmund

Alek didn’t care for hugging people he didn’t know, but thankfully the impulsive golem solved that problem for him. Alek wondered how mentally stable this group was that Applebottom had put together. As he defensively moved to a corner of the room, he scanned the others. There was a group hug with many, many people in it, the fight between the small bone child and golem, and two people in an adjacent corner of the room. Something in the eyes of one of them caught his attention, and he pondered it for a moment before realizing who it was. By God, it was Nate! And he was talking to someone who was at least slightly more upstanding looking than the rest. Alek crossed the floor to them, careful to keep a counterspell and his swordcane ready, in case anyone got any ideas.

It appeared that the wealthy man in green had just stopped talking, which was good because Alek felt that, out of everything, a familiar face was probably the best thing to have happened to him today. “Nate, my friend, it has been years!”, exclaimed Alek as he approached the group of two, still with his eyes on the fight. “How’ve you been since our little -” Alek chuckled as he put a legal spin to it -" Buisiness venture?" As a measure of politelness, he also addressed the other man, “How do you do? I’m Alek, Schwarzmund”.

This golem was staring at Alek, and he had the vague idea that it went out of its way to come back. “I’m not very accustomed to shaking hands with golems”, Alek said after a brief hesitation when its hand was stuck out. He did take the hand, but was very skittish with it, drawing it back quickly. The cold hands of the golem was very much disturbing, though if he let it show, Alek would be damned. It was cold and detached… Strange in the most disturbing sense. Careful not to introduce himself, lest the construct get any ungainly ideas, Alek said, “I too am bound for room one and a half,” and quickly glancing at his watch, “And its about time to go now anyways”. With that Alek swiftly passed the golem and proceeded to the bartender, asking for room 1.5.

What kind of mercenaries was this woman hiring? Was she actually truly mad? Alek shot a glance backwards at the man who had sat next to him. Was that man, too, a part of this? How much more insane could this get?

[Oh yes, Count Dorkula is going to foil Alek nicely.]

Artur Tarvas denies Rilnik’s request for some of Estonia, claiming that if the illegitimate government in exile is willing to negotiate with the new ruling government, then the old Estonian regime is willing to negotiate with what it feels is a legitimate country. Therefore, by Rilnik Junson’s claims, King Tarvas states, the new government is legitimate.

I would like to say that it is not required for people to RP their posts, though I do encourage it. If it would help all of you out, you can always switch back to the NotW 2 method, where people posted from the perspectives of players, not the countries they were playing. If you guys think that that would make responding easier/faster/more fun, I’m totally for it, as the whole point of this game is to discuss the goings ons in the world.

Just food for thought.

I think it is because you actually want to see what happens when the Bad News Bears show up to the Snowy Tundra of Canada (Actual quote from the update, lol). I’m editing the frontpage now. Feel free to send me actions and strike up your last trade deal. Your first is with Ireland and the second is with New Zealand. I’ll PM you any seeeeecret info too.

Son of a bitch! I’ve been lurking for ages waiting for a new one of this to start, and you start it after I leave for boot camp! Just my luck haha. Well anyway, I’m out now, please put me down as a reserve. PLEASE!!

EDIT: I know it’s well past the 24hour period you left for veterans, but would you kindly reconsider? If not that’s okay…

Oh damn, I haven’t seen you around in a long time. Good job getting some of the old’uns back for a game myhomie.

I figured if there was anything to get the old crowd back together it was only with the most notorious game that FGF had ever run. So I ran it and literally sent messages to every player from the second game that had posted in the past 2 years. Lucky for us they still come to this website.

EDIT:

[If the Pretender succeeds, does that mean Gonkey is out of the game?]

Yes. Though the country of Estonia might not be.
