Topic: Kongregate / Split test: New navigation!

I don’t care for it myself. The gray is UGLY UGLY UGLY. I don’t like the way that now when I accidentally mouseover the menu it blocks even more of the game I’m trying to play. It does seem to respond faster now though, so at least it goes away quicker. One minor positive there. One MAJOR negative is the lack of a link to the Current Challenge page which others have already mentioned. (Also, for this challenge at least, it doesn’t even tell you what game it’s in!)

I don’t see the point of the Games tab, so I’ll leave that to others to discuss. I kind of like the new options for badges under Achievements, but the layout is pretty horrid. I’d personally prefer the new stuff to be on a separate page and the Achievements tab to be more like the old one. If that’s not an option, think about what biguglyorc said earlier about vertical lists rather than horizontal. My Kong tab is still kind of pointless. Most of it duplicates stuff already available in the profile above, and the forum links are not terribly helpful. Please allow us to choose favorites as others have already suggested.

Not directly related to the split test, but when are you going to make it so we can read the full description of a game without going to the page itself? Ten words in a hover is not useful, especially when three of them are usually “This game is”.

Topic: Kongregate / Is it just me or

I think I’ve disliked every new interface thing Kong has come up with for at least the past year. What does “trending” even mean?

That’s odd… I’m feeling a sudden urge to go play Get Off My Lawn.

Uh, what was the point of this update? The only reason I liked the hover at all was so I could actually read the description before loading the game.

Well if you’re hoping to give advice on when to summon certain raids, why not provide that information in the script? ie: For each raid, how many are currently alive, average time to kill, %failed in the last arbitrary time period? That might help people choose their raids better.

Heck, might as well go crazy here. What about surveying script users, allowing them to check off which raids they would like to see summoned, and showing the aggregate results in another tab so folks can just read what raids are in demand?

I can see that there’s a lot of history here. I’m going to put my two cents in and try not to step on anyone’s toes, but please forgive me if I bring something up that’s been debated before.

To be honest, it looks like you’re using the script to modify the playstyle of the entire community. I suspect you’re not trying to do that, but if you require players to do something to get access to your stored raids, you are in fact telling them what to do. You have a lot of power due to your monopoly on raid sharing, so you have to be very careful how to wield it. Sometimes it’s best to just let things go.

Please consider whether the failed raids “issue” is actually a problem, or merely a matter of optimization. If it’s just optimization, let it be. If there is a problem, show us the numbers to prove it—and still let it be, unless it’s a major catastrophe. Seriously, the community needs the freedom to develop in its own way, and sometimes it just needs to be able to screw up.

Also consider the possibility that the raids are failing because there are too many of them. You might have actually created the problem with the requirement to submit raids. (Whether that was actually necessary or not has presumably been discussed in threads I missed. I’m skeptical, but let’s not derail the current discussion.)

My final point is regarding new players. If you want to teach them proper summoning etiquette, slapping them with a penalty when they mess up isn’t the best way to help them learn. That’s more likely to turn them off to the game. A friendly, helpful community is much better at retaining fresh players than a rigid, rule-bound heirarchy, and you need new players to keep the game alive. I like the idea of providing a “how to avoid summoning a fail raid” guide. I don’t like penalizing clueless newbies. (And as for the trolls allegedly gaming the system, if they’re really playing in such bad faith, they’re going to find a way to screw with your rules anyway.)

With all these mini-WRs you guys have been throwing for months now, it’s WAY past time for us to be able to tell which “tokens” (like the Draconic Digits in the current All That Glitters mini-WR, for example) we’ve already won in the past. Seriously. It’s. Not. That. Hard.

Here’s another tip: I’ve noticed that Clash seems to run faster when it isn’t visible. Try switching to a different (blank) tab, or just scroll the window until the game is no longer visible. It speeds up considerably when I do that.

So let me get this straight… If I run into a miniboss I have to spend the same energy PLUS I have to fight it off, and in return I get NO gold or experience? Hightened risk=lower rewards??? I really don’t understand the logic of this. Any particular reason we can’t at least get the normal gold/exp for questing in that area?
edit: Confused by poorly-worded patch notes. (“They do not give additional experience or gold” would have been easier to understand.)

+1 for crafting tab (and/or option to apply to existing tabs) only showing recipes you have all ingredients for.

Probably been suggested already: Let the player flag raids he/she wants to keep track of and list them in a new tab regardless of new/active/complete status. (Leave them in the regular listings too.)

And please, if I didn’t earn any loot from a completed raid, change the “Loot” button to “Close”. Getting rid of extra clicks is always good. A “Loot All” button would also be nice, but I’m not holding my breath.

Topic: Clash of the Dragons / Wait a sec...

Meh. I got through as pyrelord by playing heavy attack cards every turn. Don’t bother healing, just kill! Go fast enough and he won’t have as much chance to draw one of his nukes. Sure I got unlucky sometimes, but it wasn’t that bad. When I got tired of the small chance of losing I switched to sentinel and played with hard to kill, spirit wards, and strategists. It worked, but was tedious enough to send me back to pyrelord. (Do you have any idea how long it takes to blank the entirety of an opponent’s deck?)

I liked the idea mentioned earlier of brawls with multiple opponents, although I don’t see any reason to limit it to brawls—why not in the story too? Another thing would be having AI allies in the story when called for. It’s kind of sad to see so many cards that refer to the rest of your party have no use outside of brawls.

Also +1 vote for reconnect. I understand you’re working on it, this is just to let you know how important it is for us.

Topic: Clash of the Dragons / Potion question

It should, but buffs are often a bit wonky in this game. Some potions won’t show their buff when depleted, but they do actually work. There are quite a few little bugs like that, I’m afraid. Other buffs don’t appear to do what they say, some show long after they expire, and LOTS of them last a different length than you’d expect. You’ll get used to it. :/

Topic: Clash of the Dragons / Blank did HOW much damage?

I had my opponent (an Oroc Hurler) down to four cards. It wasn’t a sure thing though, because he had recently played Arthur’s Bane and a ton of other +damage cards, my equipment was used up, talismans were depleted, and my hand was pretty lousy. Luck was with me however, and I got a random crit and did 1 damage…

Great. I’m screwed.

Oroc Hurler depletes 2 from Ghostmaster’s Tonic. (Nice! But that leaves one card left. I’m doubly screwed now.)
Oroc Hurler plays Blank. (Woohoo! I win!)
Blank does 24 damage. (Oh. How many do I have left? 13, 12, 11……crap.)

Yeah, Ghostmaster’s Tonic can be pretty scary near the end of a game. I managed to survive due to a lucky sequence of alchemists and healing potions (thank you, Leprechaun’s Larceny!), but I was sure I was a goner for a while.

So… anyone else have a story about a seemingly innocuous card that had a surprising trick up its sleeve?

Yes. That is the problem. One click should be enough. Not a killer in itself, but as I already said:

It’s been said before, but bears repeating. The game’s ridiculous dependency on double-clicking needs to be changed. It’s a basic rule of design—never require double-clicking when a single click will suffice. Supposedly there are some sort of issues that make this impossible, but frankly I don’t believe it. Not when every single one of the other card games I’ve seen only require a single click to play a card. It’s annoying enough even when it works right, but when combined with the problem with recognizing double-clicks, it’s a game-killer.

It makes it almost impossible for me to play draft. I literally was not able to choose enough cards to fill my deck in the time available thanks to the lag from loading the card images and having to click a second time.

It can take me up to 2 full minutes to change my equipment when I change class because most of the double-clicks aren’t recognized. (Automatically putting on the equipment worn last time you played a class would be another way to get around this problem.)

The open packs tool on the deck-building screen won’t function. I have to do it through the store.

I play on auto all the time because it’s just too slow otherwise. Frankly, I’m only playing this game for the story now. As it stands, I’m quitting once I’ve gotten through zone 4. Possibly sooner, if the difficulty forces me to disable autopilot.

I’m sure there are more problems that it causes, but I can’t be bothered to figure them all out. I’m not the only one with this problem. So, decide for yourself: are the “other issues” that supposedly exist worse than losing players because they can’t play the game?
