How relevant are game ratings?

If a game were to get 500 ratings (bringing it to 3 stars) within 2 days, it would get more traffic than a game that gets 75 ratings (bringing it to 3.5 stars)?
Edit: Also, just another question that I just have to ask in relation to one of my games (so sorry, i REALLY want to get a firm grasp on this):
I recently uploaded yet another game, and this time I got lots of reviews from people (I think 5 forum responses + 3 game comments), all of said that it was decent—yet the game got a 2.6 after a few days…
Question is: Who exactly are the people who rate these early games (games that are under judgement)? Is it the kongregate regulars who give accurate ratings (eg: 3/5—o.k. music, short gameplay, nice graphics), or random gamers(eg: 1/5—N3eds Moar YoloSwag)? (Or is it a mix of both)?
CuriosGaming’s graphic is a good example of how the rating of the game is less important (exept with high ratings 4+ stars) than other factors (Ex: Wish Upon a Star has much more plays than Lute Quest 2 because it’s older and has badges)
About your second question, I can’t establish stats relying in just 8 reviews (considering the game must receive 50 ratings to show it’s average rating), but I guess that the “random gamers” aren’t attracted by the “new” section. Maybe “decent” means 2/5 to some people.
Oh I see… So sometimes, when people say, “Its a well executed idea” they mean that while the game isn’t absolutely terrible, its not excellent either…

How relevant are game ratings?
Of course I am not talking about games like Bloons TD or Kingdom Rush, but more about games within 2~3.25 stars… how relevant are those ratings? I feel as though people on kongregate (or at least many for that matter) only rate games 1 or 5 stars.
(Just in case any of you STILL THINK my threads are about any of my games, they aren’t)
Some games out there are rather bad (as in there actually isnt a playable game) that have better ratings than, for example, a fully developed unity game.
Is this just a recent thing, or is it just me
(I wouldn’t be surprised if it is actually just me)
EDIT: another example: one of my crappy games has a 3.2, while Surgeon Simulator 2013 has a 3.4…..

Late April Fools game!
Once upon a time, a rather inexperienced Stencyl Developed opened up Stencyl, and worked for about five minutes to make a game. This radically bad game includes:
>Over 10 seconds of gameplay
>No multiplayer
>Terrible animations
>Plain, boring background
>Horrendous playing style
>New state-of-the-art graphics that “redefine the word ‘crappy’”~Me
>Absolutely ZERO replay value
>Non-relative title and tags
>No highscores
>No planned updates
>A future 3/e rating
By now you are probably sitting in your chair, wondering “where is this game so i make sure to NEVER play it”. All you have to do is click on the kongre-link below!

GiTD [#31] Game Reviewing and Critiquing
sorry, i don’t feel like quoting anything… wait nvm
Originally posted by saybox:
Originally posted by Solsund:
The first one is that the game is just Achievement Unlocked. It has a blue elephant that jumps, collects coins and moves around and gets achievements for doing various tasks. It’s so uncanny I was actually surprised he wasn’t pooping pastries. At one point when playing it I turned to my wife to tell her that the game was just a copy of Achievement Unlocked and the little Elephant said “WTF is Achievement Unlocked?”.
The second part lost the game any chance at getting votes. There is only one single reference to the theme of “Elements” in the course of the game and that is that the elephant claims he is an “Element”.
Both those comments bother me a little bit, not because of how you voted so much as the fact that you’re judging my game on separate criteria to the other two.
It’s true that my entry didn’t end up with a strong link to the theme, but I explained where it started from and how iterations on the design gradually made it more abstract than the original plan. However, it still fits the GiTD rules of making a game, in ten days, based on some theme word given.
THIS IS NOT A CRITIQUE OF ANY SORT, JUST A QUESTION
In relation to Saybox’s Game:
Wait, so I could have started making a game that had to do with elements, but then decided to change it gradually every update until it had almost nothing to do with elements at all? Darn… if so, i have a game i could have entered :C
(this isnt sarcasm… am i missing something? because all i saw was an elephant and a background… im not hatin’ on the game at all, by the way. I’m just curious how “relevant” these entries need to be in order to be valid, because i have been very intent on entering for the previous three GiTD, and every time I haven’t due to the theme)
In relation to 3ndl3ss’ game:
I made the EXACT same thing that you did as my first game (the “Supah Dodge” one), and I too had lag issues because of the shooting. The problem was, at least for me, that I had “If hit by another actor” for the enemies, when that should JUST be on the bullet. BULLET: “If this actor collides with another actor” “Kill self” “kill last collided actor”
If that doesn’t solve the lag, or if you only had that to start with, then I don’t know how to help. I saw that you had only been making games with stencyl for a week (?), so i am NOT SURPRISED that your game has lag in it. However, as you continue to work with it, you will find your games becoming less and less laggy. (If not, then i suggest you stop making avoidance-shooter games)

GiTD [#31] Winners Announced!
I couldn’t help but notice there were only three entries… was that because of the theme? (I know that is the reason I didnt enter anything)
Anyway: 1st place = feartehstickman
2nd place = 3ndl3ss
(3ndl3ss… where all those graphics your own? Just wondering c:)

Five Player 'Pac-Man'
Wow… SO much feedback! Thank you all for trying it out!
@SumGato: that isnt a bad suggestion—however, too many of the controls would clash if i were to add alternate controls (this is the way stencyl works, or at least the only way i KNOW how to program with it :C
@feartehstickman: yes, i saw you comment. I definitely agree that this game would be MUCH better suited on a console—however, I think we all know that wont happen any time soon. Also, I never REALLY intended it to be five player; it has the capacity for five, but three people is really the recommended number.
@vesperbot: Hmm… I (same with many of my peers) have yet to experience this. So, until I learn more about it (and get more acquainted with Stencyl), I will not be able to fix this.
@Feffers: I’m happy to see that you enjoyed it, and I totally agree that this would make a nice arcade multiplayer game :D
@Drakim: … WOW … that idea never really occurred to me—I may have to make that change, especially with all of this “Beeping” that seems to be happening.
@player_03: to be honest, I personally have never experienced this issue, so I had no idea that it would occur.
@BobTheCoolGuy: Yes, I did go a bit overboard with the whole “Five Player Action!”. While five CAN play (if the computer does not experience this “beeping”, and also has a numpad, this game is actually really fun with just three people—and yes, I don’t see myself making this into an online multiplayer game any time soon :C. But anyway, thank you for the feedback :D
EDIT: Oh, by the way, if any of you could please rate the game, just to get it out of “Under Judgement”, it would be VERY helpful. Thanks again for all the feedback/suggestions!
