Topic: Kongregate / Recent game shutdowns

I don’t really follow or play many web games online, (I mostly play games on console and standalone PC games) I’ve noticed quite a few game closures happened recently.

So far I see Galaxy Life, Fantasy Online and a few others just got the plug pulled around the turn of the new year.

What other games have shutdown over the past few months.

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestion: Cloud saves!

I love the latest trend of putting “cloud storage” behind subscription models, because storage space is SOOOOOOOOO expensive and flash saved games take up SO MUCH SPACE! /sarcasm

Seriously my Kongregate SO folder has 2.26 MB of save game files in it! That’s from a years worth of playing games on Kong.

“User Content” of some games on Kong use more space for a single piece of content than all my saved games

I’m actually surprised no site has really pushed to support for online saves other than Armor Games.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate's "privacy" of its users

I’m picking through and will add as I see, but the Privacy Policy mentions third parties quite a bit.

Unless we tell you first (such as at the time we collect information from you), or unless it is part of a specific program or feature in which you have elected to participate, we do not share personally identifiable information that we have collected (such as name or email address) with other, third-party companies for their own commercial or marketing purposes.
Links and Third Parties

I understand that but nowhere does it give ANY information on those third parties, just that they are there…

From time to time we may include at the Site links to other websites as a service to you. The third party sites are operated by companies that are outside of our control, and your activities at those sites will be governed by the policies and practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy practices of these third parties before disclosing any personally identifiable information, as we are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

We sometimes work with third parties to add features or advertisements to our Site. These third parties may place cookies on your browser when you visit certain pages of our Site, or collect cookies that they have previously placed, along with the URL of the page you visited. We do not control those third parties or their use of data. In some cases we may provide tools for you to limit data sent to third parties. This privacy policy does not cover those third parties’ use of data.

They say to look at the privacy policies of the third parties, BUT HOW IS ONE SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE?!

Its like saying I’m going to fix a clients computer by using a third party to do the actually repairing, I won’t tell them who they are or how to contact or get more information from them just that a third party is involved..

Also most of the trackers are coming from FIRST PARTY sources (aka within body of kongregate’s webpages) compared to say a iframe with third party resources or flash game/ad subrequests

According to privacyscore, not only does it have a low rating but it found 33 trackers on Kongregate…

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate's "privacy" of its users

Out of pure boredom I decided to experiment to see how much kongregate tracks it users, after loading up the home page, 4 of the most played games the following is the “map” of all the trackers and bugs put on to the users machines

http://i.imgur.com/wcX5q.png

Over 10+ individual trackers embedded into kongregate alone!

Where in the privacy policy do you disclose who you are giving OUR (the users) information to and how we can control said information?

You need to be upfront with your users on what you are disclosing about them to other third parties and who they are!

I shake my fist at Kongregate for such sneaky tactics and I won’t disable my Ghostery plugin nor adblocker…

I also ask any Kong+ users to download collusion and see if you are still being tracked even though you PAY to not be tracked or spammed with ads.

Topic: Technical Support / saved games randomly disappearing

Flash local storage doesn’t get deleted unless something is specifically deleting it

This could be done by your browser, your antivirus, your utilities/cleaning programs.

Point is, it has nothing to do with Kongregate, Gamestop or any third-parties you can set out to put the blame on.

I use multiple browsers, and typically make sure I’m running the latest version of flash…. my chat.kongregate.com folder has over 1.3 MB of data… accumulated over the last 6 months

So check your computer because something on it is deleting it not Kongregate or Gamestop
Check the browser settings that have control over your flash data by going to this address in chrome chrome://chrome/settings/content

Do you have any antivirus programs on your computer?

Because if you have or use AVG, Norton, MalwareBytes or any special spyware scanning program.

All of these products classify flash .sol files as tracking cookies and lots of anti-spyware scanners delete them by default
