at least to me as someone who is overweight, i just want the same respect anyone else gets. that’s it. I think that’s what the fat acceptance thing should be about. It shouldn’t be body-shaming thin people or whining about thin privilege. I don’t like thin-shaming as when I was slowly recovering from anorexia and was finally at a healthy weight people would be like “eww you look like a skeleton here eat this you skinny slut” or “dogs like bones, men like meat” (1. dog like meat AND bones and 2. as if I give a shit what someone else think men like, you just want everyone to live up to your standards so you don’t have to do something about your own insecurities) and it was really hurtful. I think we all deserve some basic respect. If you are obese to the point where it causes diabetes and other problems and you have a “gunt”, how is that healthy at every size? if you think skinny people arne’t healthy at their size why should they be forced to think you are healthy at yours?

here in Australia the Gillard government wants to introduce languages like Hindi and Indonesian to schools because the people who speak those languages are meant to be our most important trade partners. I’m all for multiple languages being taught in school but they shouldn’t get priority over the official language of the country. Science shows us that children who grow up in bilingual or multilingual households learn better and I think if we can have 2 official languages (i.e. English and Indonesian) and make signs bilingual and everything and have people speaking more than one language at home, that would be great, however we do need to address problems people already have with English (like the people who confuse your and you’re) and make sure any curriculum puts extra emphasis on making sure people are prepared for life by being able to read and write at a reasonable level. What are your thoughts on the topic?

i have food, shelter, clean water and i get money for clothes and stuff but I suffer chronic pain so bad it nearly cripples me. i have trouble accessing medical services because I can’t afford to go private for everything but the public health system is terrible. it took 6 years to have my wisdom teeth removed and i can only see my specialist twice a year unless i go private, but she doesn’t bulk-bill so I can’t afford it. i can’t get in to see my GP most of the time but she’s great, we talk to her on the phone and she writes up prescriptions for the medication we need (I live off 6 panadeine forte a day the pain is so bad). i face a lot of financial difficulties as I am paying back a loan I took out so I could get a new camera after the last one gave up the ghost and everything is so expensive (groceries came to $77 and I don’t even buy meat or anything expensive).

I really don’t see what you guys are ranting on about, English (especially when watched on TV) is basically the same, its the accents that make it sound different. For example, I say dance without the U and I use UK English. In the end is doesn’t really matter which one you use since you generally have the spelling, you use the same words (with exclusion of stuff like ‘Diaper’ and ‘Candy’ [Though I hear people saying the latter more and more nowadays]) and we all understand each other fairly well. I think you guys are just making a mountain out of a molehill.

You can download Australian English for firefox from their website. they have dictionaries for many dialects. my spell check gives me US English but I add the British spellings to my dictionary.

it’s not as simple as “convert everyone to English”, you have to know their language to be able to teach them yours or they’ll just take it as you’re an ass and chase you off. imagine you and everyone around you spoke English then suddenly all these people come at you out of nowhere and start screaming at you in another language and kill people who don’t understand or learn fast enough. language development is interesting. I believe all languages are connected in some way or another and can all be traced back to one mother language. as people started moving along and discovering new things, they would create new words for things and eventually have their own language to identify who they are.
