Topic: General Gaming / Mardek 3 vs. Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Seriously . . . I’m just going to ignore the topic for a second. I’d like to highlight how amazing people here are. Ilk1986 – you and all folks like you really need to go get your head checked.
I can understand people like daxteen who are obviously just trolls . . . or people like Gremlion who lobby valid complaints against Mardek (for completionists Mardek is almost like torture the amount of grinding required to get ‘perfect’ endings) . . . but folks like you who walk in and try talk like sages while OPENLY ADMITTING you haven’t played the games in question? What is going on in your noggin.
You haven’t played Mardek, but you think the story in Starwish is better. Thanks man. I think living on Mars would be preferable for you. I haven’t met you, or been to Mars, but it seems absolutely reasonable to me.

EBF generally has easier flow in combat. Mardek has vastly better dialogue and story. Pixelated graphics can be nostalgiac, but EBF obviously put a little bit more work into it. Mardek has ridiculous grind factor, and some incredibly hard challenges if you look for them, whereas EBF you just set it on epic and voilâ, you have a hard game.
I’d say the two games are pretty on a par, Mardek is my personal favourite, but entirely understand how EBF has more mass appeal, largely due to being more casual gamer friendly (see angry birds).

Sure _ But you (Gremlion) are like level 1.23 billion. For those of us who are ‘in the game’ but not “eating the game alive as if it were a gaselle on the Serengeti and we are storm troopers using the sniper scope for the deathstar with the slight urge for a nibble” . . .
(that means if you are doing full level endurances . . . but haven’t done 100 of them, have only done 3-4 max settings endurance. Thus, in an actual mathematical sense, how do the three interact? While there are nice ‘eyeballin it’ caps (10x for replenish) what are the real relationships between them, nice visual ‘caps’ like 10x aside. The only caps that make much sense are the ones for focus, because you can start with a higher grade gem. The difference between 500%, and 495%, while visually poignant, doesn’t really make a difference for much of the game (thus, the visual softcaps aren’t a good measurement).
BTW – sorry if this is incoherent, tis occurring after a night of shenanigans. But I would still like to know. I am currently level 1800ish and am wondering where to distribute my points before I hit level 25billion+ ;)

Question: Replenish – most of the mana% things we see effect our orange gems (in the other GC games at least). This skill states it in such a fashion that it seems it does not. “x% more mana replenish over time and mana per kill” which does not include mana per hit.
In a common max level endurance run, you are only relying on the mana from kills for the first 20ish waves at most. Which means this skill is only really helping you for those levels, if it works as it seems to read.
So should we not be taking much more than a few (hundred) points in this skill and focusing much more on Focus and Resonance?

Topic: GemCraft Labyrinth / Traps verse Towers

I always start with a tower, especially if you are using the shadow-clash game setting. Set it up nice, and use whatever gem you like in it. I recommend it having Y and L, so preferably not the gem you are later going to have for manafarm.
However, once shadow is gone (past about lvl 20) you can convert to two gems, farm and killing, and have both in traps really easily. I have never had a monster slip past my killing gem, even when upgrading it, you just need to make sure you aren’t fooling around with its killing capacity, Also – having blue in each gem can really help. My two gems are always OLB and YLB, with an absolutely overblow Y in the killing gem and O in the manafarm. For amps, use 90% Y gems in the killing gem, and 90% L in the manafarm. O doesn’t seem to add much in amps, and your mana farm should be hitting a veritable buffet most of the time, whereas your kill gem should be 1-shotting monsters most of the time, so hitting 20 or so at most.
Note: I’m lvl 14xx so not too bad, haven’t enduranced everything yet (still having trouble with the later two pylon levels on full settings, just getting started up and getting the no-monsters reach your amulet achievement course) but ja _

Topic: General Gaming / [GemCraft chapter 0] is there a max level?

Actually, there is a hard-cap level max in GCL. Not a skill point max, as you can get more apparitions, but your max level will be if you do endurance, finish, max settings, on all levels. There is no more xp to be had in the game. At least as I understand it (oh, and finish all the challenges. Wewt, they give such minimal xp it doesn’t feel like it matters).

Topic: General Gaming / [GemCraft chapter 0] Suggestions for GemCraft 2: Chasing Shadows

@Vesperbot – ja, I’ve seen that blog – but it doesn’t really seem to mention much . . .

Well – we advance by one frame now. Just double tap space like it yo glock mofo! But really, just tap space twice as fast as you can and you do it, just means pushing a button twice and looks stupid as opposed to having one button to do it.

I think if the green was just pushed a bit further to blue. It is not going to be mistaken for blue, it is waaayy to far for that, but would distinguish it further from lime.

As for GCX→GC2 – the idea would be that you could do that. If you were having a really tough time on one level, go back and go up 100 levels in GCL and get a higher starting mana pool (100 extra mana could be what you need) or go get level up a bit in GC0 . . . what these skills actually effect (whether it be damage/mana/whatever) I don’t care – but don’t you think it would be really cool for those people who put tons of time and effort into the previous games to be rewarded in some fashion for it?
Not an overpowering fashion, but in some way?
Plus – having these be final skills (maybe only available at level 60 or something) you can make it so game balance isn’t thrown off too horribly. GC aficionados are going to be way ahead by that point anyway, and starting manapool will already be pretty awesome (so you aren’t getting a 1000 extra starting mana when your starting manapool is . . . 1000. That would trivialize the beginning of the game.

And ja, what you are saying about gem growth makes sense. However, the two (monster modes and gem balance) can be fixed in tandem. These are rather big releases, remember :)

Topic: General Gaming / [GemCraft chapter 0] Suggestions for GemCraft 2: Chasing Shadows

Suggestions: Leave the story line to the author. Game element suggestions are cool, but storyline elements, I am quite sure he has relatively mapped out already. Discussing what you think may be going on is cool, obviously.

~Remove giants being the highest multiplier type modifier. As every single person who got premium is aware, giants is easier than any of the other modes. This trivialized a lot of GCL. Additionally, choosing a single type of monster to fight made the maps slightly more boring and predictable.
All of the other modes are fantastic, absolute genius having specific modifiers tweakable to make the game harder and more profitable. But Choosing a specific type of monster just made the level more bland.
You could have a modifier, like [swarm: 20% more waves inserted, all swarm. .2xp modifier] or giant [20% waves inserted , all giant; -.1xp modifier] (yes, less xp, because giants are easier]

~It would be nice if there was a higher limit on endurance, and more xp available for really maxing out stuff. In GCL-there is no difference between finishing a max settings endurance with a G25 surrounded by G23, and angering up til wave 100 and sleeping through the rest, and getting yourself up to a G46 surrounded by G44, and angering monsters into the trillions. It makes it less fun to try do these absolutely atrocious taking the game to the max things. Either find a way to account for these things (score incorporates highest level gem/mana made in gems/mana finished with) either through direct score, or amulets, or a summoning multiplier even on endurance levels, supposing you kill them or something. And perhaps no endurance cap on levels of hp.

~An advance by one frame button. Yes seriously.

~Make Lime and green look more different. Perhaps make the green slightly bluer or darker, or the lime slightly browner, or change it from lime to something else we don’t got. White even. I don’t care. Would just make life easier.

~Do a little dance for us. By this I mean start a developers blog just so we can see what sorta progress we are looking at :P Even just a tidbit or two per month would be fine _

~Incorporate your achievements in GC1,GC0 and GCL into one of your skills – if this is possible in flash or whatever. Example: The ritual skill. Instead, have something like (have to be 30 to get the skill) [for each # levels you had in GC0, you gain 1 max initial mana pool] and the same, but for starting mana and GCL. Yes, this would mean you have to balance around the absolute monsters (but thankfully not those people who hack the game with speedhacks etc.) but if it is 1 mana point per one level in GCL, that is still only a 1000 for even the weirdest people. But this would give some incentive to play the old games, and some reward for dedication.
GC1 could be something like "gain a gem of the level that would be created if your [level in GC1*G1] were combined.

Hey. Just wondering, I saw people talking about monsters not having enough armour to warrant a purple gem and whatnot, saying the highest monster armour they had seen was a few hundred. Pretty sure the monsters I was slaying last night were rocking out armours well into the 10^x thousands. Am I insane? Also – is it worth it to have a li’l o/p/l trap before your o/l/b trap before your y/l/wtfevar trap?
Additionally – about what gem level do you need on the stage, and about what wizard level would you need before finishing an endurance with ALL the multipliers (faster stronger included, I’ve finished without it, but not with it yet)?

Topic: GemCraft Labyrinth / WTB ability to focus target structures

Simple: As you can click on a single monster to tell your towers (which can) to fire on them – I would like this same ability for buildings. It is simple, shouldn’t be hard to code, and would make my life much happier.

I will now explain why
Two instances
1)First level with two tombs. I have made standard 6 amps around 1 tower g/o/l and am doing it only on triple hp/giants/bla. About 5 levels from end (btw this is first playthrough) I decide I will open a tomb. I have heard people say how ridiculous they are, so I prepare to open one. I click ‘target structures’ and before I can click again, both tombs are open.
I absolutely destroy them – but the horror that went through me when this happened could easily have been easily alleviated by this.
2) More problematic:
On the D4 pylon level – you cannot let your gem get a large enough targeting radius to hit the pylon, or it will simply ignore the mana fields. This forces you to keep your gems and amps low and lame to win the level? Sadsauce. I didn’t realize that the targeting would work this way – so I had to restart the level :(
