Topic: Realm Grinder / [Suggestions]

Issue: The excavation system is a creative way of unlocking the new neutral factions, but afterwards the usefulness of excavations becomes either useless to the players who don’t want to sacrifice their gems, occasionally useful to people who are lucky enough to get some faction coins out of it when they need them, or almost-dangerously exploitable for people who use save/load codes in order to guarantee a faction coin payout each time they purchase an excavation.

Suggestion: I’m not sure what the best way to improve the system as a whole would be, but it would be a good idea to either make the rewards non-random, or at least tie excavation progress to the Kongregate account in some way. I’d probably recommend removing the gem expense as well, if it gets tied to Kongregate accounts.

Also there were a few factionmates that I feel like I never took the time to thank properly from way-back-when.

You probably could have thought a little harder about who to hand leadership over to, too.

I had no reason to believe she’d do that, and among the officership she was the best choice (or seemed to be, with the power of retrospect). We can’t personally regret the choices other people make once we no longer have control over the situation. I do regret that a lot of people got hurt by her action, but only in the same way that I regret this game will be shut down for the people who would like to keep on playing it for longer.

Topic: Realm Grinder / How to keep (some) older players here longer.

Speaking as someone who’s kind-of approaching the endgame (the biggest legitimate challenges are just the time-played trophies), I wouldn’t reset everything for some rubies. I might be willing to reset all my gems for some rubies, but not the trophies. It’s a reasonable idea I guess, but the requirements are a bit too high imo, especially when considering the time-played trophies (meaning you can only use this option once every 60ish* days legitimately).

Maybe if all the trophies except the secret ones were reset (and the gems of course), that would be fair.

Re: illustrations

25 gold x 20% is 5 gold and not 30. Actual reward calculation numbers should either be “25 × 120%” or “25 + 20%” or something else that makes mathematical sense.

Topic: Holyday City / why?

In some ways, the CPU is like a calculator. Idle games have a lot of numbers to keep track of, that are constantly increasing and tend to eventually become very large. So it makes sense that it might be taxing on your system to account for the many different multipliers involving very large numbers that go on.

Town types in general are pretty boring – only level 2 (sort of) and level 7 matter in any substantial way. Every single one just multiplies income by 3x, precisely the same thing that managers do.

Yeah, so I’m playing the Holyday idle game now. Graphics are crap, but hey it’s an idle game. Waaaaay more interesting game play. New strategy for the moon: Walk away. Go play better idle game. Profit.

I’m doing the same and checking in on Adventure Capitalist about once a day now and resetting.

Same club here. Decided to check the forums to see if everyone else is thinking the same.

What you’re using now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caduceus – Hermes really has nothing to do with healing at all, unless it’s supposed to represent the patron saint of

merchants, shepherds, gamblers, liars, and thieves

What it really should be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_of_Asclepius

Common misconception. U.S. army’s fault. Just thought I should say something, on the off chance it might make some difference, or at least inform a few people of the general misconception.

HHG didn’t lose any money. They didn’t get as much profit as they normally would, but it’s a common fallacy to think that that is equal to losing money. Never count your money before you actually have it.

Furthermore, the droprate for 200 gold isn’t ‘in the double digits’ as some mentioned. It’s 5%, which would be break-even if not for the gold gotten from normal presents. Then you only need a little bit of luck to boost your gold to the thousands.

From a business standpoint, if you have a regular amount of income that goes down as a result of something you do or something you don’t do but could have easily done, that’s regarded as a loss of income. From a consumer/player standpoint, obviously most people don’t think of it that way. Also revenue and profit don’t mean the same thing – revenue is what they probably lost (or as you say, didn’t get as much of) as a result of this update, and profit is what might have turned into a loss if the revenue went down by enough. Paying salaries and other costs can easily make a game unprofitable, and many online games published by U.S. companies struggle to make a profit. Clearly HHG was doing pretty well for itself, but it’s quite possible that this situation will hurt the company; it wouldn’t surprise me if they over-invested in themselves due to the profits they were getting early-on.

I believe this person has misunderstood the question. Angels carry over from reset to reset. Upgrades that are purchased by spending angels do not carry over.

Topic: Rise of Mythos / The Whale

In China (where the original version comes from), people who spend a lot of money are proud to show it, because they get to show off how rich they are. Here, many people care more about player ability and time investment, and think that those that get power through money are pathetic. That’s why they don’t show VIP levels – they want to give paying players the privilege of not being abused for the truth by letting them hide it away. That sounds like I’m saying it should be shown to everyone, but that’s not really true, since we don’t publicly walk around with our income levels stamped onto our cheeks or such. What we earn is our business and choice to share with others, and thus it’s reasonable that how much people spend on a game is people’s choice to share with others.

I think that would make it useless. I’d say putting a cap on it might be good enough. Or maybe upping the delay to 5, so it can only be used every 3 turns if not used right away.

I guess that’s just what you guys get for trusting gamefuse with your money. Screwing something big up usually happens on a monthly basis with them, and at this point can we honestly expect better? I’ve been gone for a few months now, and I have to say, I haven’t missed this game. Somehow, no other developers ever seem to screw up as consistently.

I had no idea this was the case, but it sure makes a lot of sense now!

And the person that carries out the will of the deceased is called the executor, who then executes the will! A good bit of irony in it, if the executor also executed the person who wrote the will, if you like dark humor.

This has been another episode of “Making the law fun! Or making fun of the law,” with Hotshot.

Topic: AdVenture Capitalist: General / Angel upgrades +10 +25 +50 etc.

I can’t quite tell if you got your answer or not, but if you haven’t: You can buy +10/25/50 business upgrades at any time without changing your long-term business cost.

So if you have 0 newspapers after a reset and buy all your angel upgrades and have 150 newspapers, then buy 850 more, you’ll have 1000 newspapers and the next one will cost you (for example) 1 trillion.
If you buy 850 newspapers first, then get 150 more from angel upgrades, you’ll once again be at 1000 newspapers and the next one will still cost you 1 trillion.

If buying them won’t decrease your investment amount by much, go ahead and buy them as soon as you can. If it’s more like 5-10% of your total investors, I’d wait until you’re near a wall and need that x amount in order to get your next achievement that would increase your total estimated income by at least 25% (so usually it’ll be newspapers or donuts)

A good bit of ancient wisdom for lottery, lawsuit, and inheritance winners. It’s kind of funny that recipients of an inheritance are legally called winners.

Just got my last achievement a few minutes ago with a 6x multiplier (decided to put my leftover kreds to work here after adcap’s outage). I’d guess that even people with no multiplier can expect to be finishing the game in the next week or two.

Topic: AdVenture Capitalist: General / End of game very anti climatic... Needs a patch

The way I see it, quitting freemium games is always a win, especially if you accomplished what you originally set out to do, or are leaving when you realize the fun you get from it is less than the time you put into it. This game’s really casual though, so I see no harm in keeping up with what’s new in it.

Perhaps you are new to the ‘freemium’ model of gaming. It is: “You never win, you only play until you decide to stop paying/playing.”

Topic: AdVenture Capitalist: General / Why do people have to cheat in this game?

Interesting post, Muskar. What’s strange is that I’ve had the feeling that cheaters think that others are jealous of them when they get called out, but I could never understand why they would think that. What is there to be jealous of, if anyone can replicate their results with some little trainer or program or macro? Cheating in a game means you give up your player identity, although to be fair this game is very lacking in player identity in the first place. I guess maybe using my own experience of jealousy is a bad metric, since I don’t seem to experience jealousy in anything, though. Do some people get jealous of cheaters when they know they’re cheating?
