[Petition] Make Nexus packs buyable with gold
Haha, hey guys, I’m glad this petition played a part to make Nexus packs buyable with gold. I may have written it that paragraph and it may have been my name at the top that helped people rally around it back in those days (like a year and a half ago), but it’s really been all you guys since then. Your dedication and insistence on getting something, even though the devs held all the cards. Good work, I’m glad your efforts finally paid off. :)
Ohio should know that as leader of the ‘former’ Black Ops, Hotshot never dies, he just goes underground. :P

[News] Newsflash: Ultimate Explore Gets Extended!
Well the gifts included 50 mp, 5 medium stones, and 5 luckstones. I got this for completing a few of the early parts, and a leaguemate of mine got the same thing for completing no part of the event, so I suspect it was a server-wide gift or something. It’s certainly something, so thanks. Glad I didn’t go far into the event.

ideachannel, we appreciate that you’re on our side and want to compensate us for the actual rewards being far FAR worse than what the posting suggested, but I for one would really appreciate if you could be more specific.
1: What will be in the extra gift pack? Will it scale with how much of the event we completed, or how many times we completed it?
2: If it doesn’t scale, what does ‘participated’ mean? Claimed one reward? Completed the event? Is there any reason to try and complete the current event, or to repeat it?
If you could answer any of the above, in part or in whole, I think we would all appreciate it.

"Battle of the best" Contest
Not that I’ve played the game in like half a year, but is there any assurance people aren’t trading wins with each other, or was pvp grouping fixed so that people couldn’t intentionally fight against one-another?
The reason I ask is because it looks like the top 2 players are related.

[News] Newsflash: Ultimate Explore Gets Extended!
Originally posted by ideachannel:
An extended Rosy Road to Glory will be available before Christmas. Its extendedness is reflected in the Ultimate Explore section where new targets and difficulty requirements are added. More amazing rewards including Advanced Gems, Ultimate Cards (Scroll), high-quality card packages and equipment boxes, and even Diamonds, will become attainable as long as you can complete the required missions!
Check out the new targets and difficulty requirements in the Ultimate Explore section below.

Different from the current Ultimate Explore, the new extended version can be restarted! As long as you defeat Camelot Dungeon Head at difficulty level 10 ten times listed on the form above, you can circle back to Magic Lab Head at difficulty level 1 and do another round of Ultimate Explore! Plus it’s not limited to just “another round”. You can actually do more! That basically means you are going to get unlimited rewards during this event. What a treat!
More information will be released on our homepage and forum! Stay tuned!
Castlot Team
So far, the Ult Explore we got looks nothing like this. Worse rewards and higher amounts of fights required for the Avalon Head battles.

Quick Questions
Actually later on in your raceups, certain older heroes will be needed for the 0 series battles (race up 80, 90, etc). Here’s a list going up to 100 that’s found online. Would’ve made things easier early on if I had known of it: http://www.castlot.info/2012/05/race-up-heros.html

I agree with this, especially if you manage to score an orange hypnotize or sorcery card. If you have enough pure int heroes to have 3 castellans, I might recommend adding some stamina on those later ones, they tend to be very squishy otherwise.

I want to apply, but every time I go to apply, a friend tells me it’s not worth it. Considering that 1000MP for 2 weeks they say is 2.38$ an hour and To be Honest I believe if we are working hard to keep the chat clean and considerate, we should get more. Not being greedy under any means. But I really want this job and the idea of a level 50. I don’t want to rush my experience. I’m level 32 on S2 and I play everyday. I’m online a LOT. over 30hours a week .
I believe the requirements of the position are being at least level 50, rather than them giving you level 50 for taking it. I do agree with your main point though, 21-35 hours a week is long enough to be a job, so it should pay more like one.

Nerf mad confectionist in issue 5. It’s stupidly difficult. I’m level 83, I have a 40 card deck…and I’ve now attempted and failed this fight thirteen times. I’ve tried several different custom decks based on other people’s suggestions…the guy just won’t die.
Sweet revenge is annoying, and the fact that it applies damage to the player before the player delivers damage is worse. Nonstops can bypass it because their deplete effect doesn’t trigger it. As a stronghgarm I just don’t see how I’m supposed to deal with a card that can do 8 damage, plus cause me to do to myself however much damage I do the next time I hit him. If I hit for high damage, I kill myself. If I hit for no damage to try to heal myself, the debuff doesn’t go away so he applies a second one so that my next attack does double to me whatever damage I do to him. And if I do non-zero but low damage, it just prolongs the fight an extra round or two, and his average attacks of 5-15 damage just kill me anyway.
The constant mind control effects don’t make this fight any better. I routinely go through the entire battle only getting to play 2 turns out of 40 health, because his cards make the AI play my cards for me. I’ve pointed this out before: removing the player from the game is immensely frustrating. We don’t play this game to sit and watch it play itself.
Then there are the deplete events. Multiple times I’ve managed to get him down to single digit health, only to hit for him enough damage to kill him…but then lose anyway because his deplete events kill me. I’m at 4 health, he’s at 10, so I hit him for 13…and I lose.
Stupid, annoying, frustrating fight, and I’ve now invested 32 hours worth of energy regeneration into it.
Nerf it.
On a related, but much less verbose note, the crisis deva brawl needs to be nerfed too. She’s only the second brawl boss, yet she’s tougher than any of the late game bosses like confectionist, mainframe or daddy-o.
It definitely took me a good few tries, but I was able to bring down the confectionist. If you bought those gloves on the first week, a bit of luck and good timing can get you the win as a strongharm. After also getting an ‘on the bubble’ from last week’s free draft, I was able to overpower him at 66, though I’d had plenty of matches where I got him down to 5 or so cards in the past.

Maybe change strongharms secondary ability of adding shields (only useful in the early game) to a chance to negate damage altogether? When it procs, this could be combined with an ‘agro’ effect to make them useful in brawls so that the next attack would specifically target them. Unstoppable attacks should probably still get through, and obviously deplete/banish effects would still work, etc.

Fix the class change system. People already don’t want to change classes as it is, as 25 SP at this point is quite a lot (I say at this point because in Clash I am level 315ish with like 440 SP left), but when you add on top the fact that you need to reinvest for new badges you have a disaster. You should keep your relative badge levels, so when you switch classes (we’ll use my 5/2/1/1 for an example) your primary stays at 5, secondary is 2, tertiary/off is 1.
Or they could just make class-specific badges cheaper to get. Maybe they would be cheaper on additional classes?

Here’s Bruce Schneier, expert on computer security and cryptography:
http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/09/what_is_a_hacke.html
Here’s Paul Graham, co-founder of Y Combinator, Lisp programmer extraordinaire (he also has a few cool essays; give them a read sometime!):
http://paulgraham.com/gba.html
Here is ESR, co-founder of the Open Source Initiaitve:
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html#what_is
I hope these definitions are helpful and interesting.
This is the internet and you offer me 6 to 8+ year old links when we’re speaking about account security? Online gaming and legal issues related to gaming/account owernship were barely ever heard of back then. Surely you don’t need me to explain the problem with using such old source material for something like this any further.
tl;dr version: I believe these links are still relevant despite their age, and thus still worth considering.
Long version:
Yes, this is the internet. Thank you for pointing this out.
I carefully considered the age of these articles when selecting them for posting here, and I made the conscious choice that they are relevant, even though the newest one was written five years ago.
(As a side note, I see that Bruce Schneier wrote in his 2006 article that he is sticking to a definition that he wrote in his 2000 book! So he went through a decision not unlike the one I had to make, and the outcome of his decision was the same!)
So YES, I do need you to explain the problem with using such old source material for something like this! Let me explain why I need you to explain.
If these definitions were simple laundry lists of what a hacker is (“A hacker is someone who does A, B, and C”), I would accept your criticism without question. But the way I read these articles, they are not laundry lists. Instead, I see them define a mindset that someone must have to be called a hacker. These articles tell us about the culture that hackers are a part of.
The question now comes down to whether the changes in computers and the internet in the past few years invalidate these definitions. Paul Graham goes so far as to say that hacking predates computers. If this is the case, surely the hacker ethos can survive a few changes in how we use computers, no? I do not see how the advent of online gaming changes the definition of a hacker as “someone who thinks outside the box” (Schneier), or embodying “mastery in the most literal sense” (Graham), or the five aspects of the “Hacker Attitude” (ESR).
After taking a look over your definitions, I had a feeling that the problem we had was a matter of ‘debate’ on the definition of hacker. I’m well-aware of the old culture of ‘hackers’ and how they consider those who simply use tools or methods that can be related to hackers as a means to cause damage as ‘crackers’, and such. The problem is that there isn’t a consensus on whether the term ‘hacker’ should stay with the original defintion/label, or whether the one that the media and society at large has been bringing in there. As our friend in article 3 points out, ‘hacker’ society isn’t a very big portion of society in general, so I don’t think they can hold the word hostage and decide who is and isn’t labeled as such.
My first post only called the OP a hacker to put things in his own words, but the main point was the illegality of it. I don’t really care who defines hacker how, really. You think the definition is still/should remain closed, I think it has changed and should remain open just as every other word in the English language remains open, but that really has nothing to do with the OP anymore.

Protip to faction leaders: Tell your officers “Don’t use stupid passwords”. You might not think they’re using stupid passwords, but they probably are.
