Topic: Kongregate / [Archive] Badge of the Day (2011)

Hi everyone, it’s the new year, and I’m sorry that I have some bad news :(

As of 1/1/2012, I won’t be maintaining this thread anymore because I’m really busy with work and stuff. I might check back on Kong now and then if I can spare the time though. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread in one way or another, I really appreciate it as it has kept the thread alive. Also, if any of you wish to continue this archive and start a new thread, I highly suggest you contact resterman about it, as he is an excellent script writer and provided me with an invaluable script which saved me a lot of time in updating this archive. Happy new year everyone :D

Shift 2 Medium badge.

Oh wait, that doesn’t say much because all of them are mediums. I think the title is in caps because, well… you press shift to make caps.

It’s fun for the first five days. After that it gets boring.

Most of the 100% people are hackers, lol. I’ve checked their highscores. Anyway, great update.

EDIT: Scratch that, every single one of them hacks, lmao.

Topic: General Gaming / Fallout Or The Elder Scrolls?

Personally, I think Fallout 3’s VATS combat system is much more awesome than that of the Elder Scrolls, where you simply swing your weapon. Fallout 3 also has (IMO) a better story as well as choices which affect you more later in the game. For Skyrim, you can be a “master of all”, a couple of measly quests will make you the arch mage etc. Morrowind handled that much better I guess.

just read the comments, and you posted that you can kill the sun and now i feel stupid :P. i did it in a very contrived way, as the barrel was tipping id shoot at it so it would slip and fall on its side, i needed pinpoint accuracy and timing to pull it off.

That was actually level 51, the last level lol. I was having some problems with it too, then I experimented with shooting at the sun to see if the arrows stuck there would somehow collide with the barrel and tip it over. Came across this method by accident. I’m thinking this is the intended method for finishing the level, just that isn’t very intuitive at first glance.

Managed to finish it in 30 minutes… not as tedious as I would have imagined though.

I don’t belong to this thread, but just wanna say that suffering isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes you learn by suffering. That’s why I feel that the argument “God doesn’t exist because if he did, he would relieve us of our suffering” isn’t substantial enough. Of course, I’m not saying that I believe in God, or that you’re wrong, for that matter. Just wanna share my POV.

Topic: General Gaming / raze 2 hard badge journey tl;dr version

Static Field is very, very, useful for the last level. The enemy AI will continue shooting at you if you activate your field, and it has gotten me up to 12 kills in level 15 before. It works wonders against any enemy, even the Raze Soldier, because even they cannot withstand their own firepower. It’s like a cloak except that you get to dish some damage against them before you blast them to oblivion.

Topic: Kongregate / Badge Suggestions!

I really like Precarious’ suggestions, as well as the badge names. Gateway series should definitely get badges, Hetherdale is somewhat non-intuitive, but overall good list. I always think more badges are better than none, MMOs not included of course.

Topic: General Gaming / Why do people still put up with bethesda and obsidian?

I never thought of it that way :/ But perhaps some of the richer few would put off buying the DLCs (when they come out) for a while and then buy the GotYE when it is released so as to get everything packaged neatly at a cheaper price. Maybe Bethesda could release more content, but they’re holding that off to include those in the DLC so that more people will spend their money on the GotYE. In fact, some people have noticed that, by using the noclip function in the console, they can see Cyrodill and Morrowind landmasses, making it a possibility that Bethesda has already developed expansions for those areas or has plans to do so.

Releasing buggy games gives people more incentive to spend more money on their GotYEs, since they come with bug fixes.
ie: Another means by which they can scam more money out of us.

Bugs often cause loss of progress, which is another fake way of increasing game length.

But people who buy the GOTY version wouldn’t have bought the game when it first came out. Also, the GOTY versions tend to be cheaper. How’s that scamming?

Don’t say “OMG BUT TEHIR GAMZ R BIG SO DEY KANT BETA TEST!!!”. Fallout 3 had game-breaking bugs in the beginning of the game. You could crash the game before leaving vault 101.

If any other developer released a game so buggy that it would crash during the tutorial, they would go out of business because nobody would buy their games.

So, here is what to discuss in this thread:

Bethesda/Obsidian fans: try to defend your favorite company

Everyone else: why bethesda and Obsidian aren’t help up to the same standards at the rest of the industry.

Lets go!

Oh, and if you don’t know who Bethesda and Obsidian are, they are the guys who made Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Oblivion, and Skyrim. All of these games are known for being buggy.

Yeah, they certainly aren’t up to the same standards as the rest of the industry. For Oblivion, they only patched dozens of bugs and left the modding community to fix the rest of the hundreds of bugs themselves. For Skyrim, I heard from others the 1.2 patch caused dragons to fly backwards as well as elemental resistances to be faulty. Also, PS3 players have complained that because of the bugs, they can’t play the game at all. Apparently with each patch new problems keep popping out… I’d say it’s a great disappointment. Maybe people don’t put up with the company, they either buy it because of the hype, or because they know that it will be modded eventually and they just want to enjoy what they can in the meantime.

Topic: General Gaming / Annoying Games?

I don’t mind luck based games, as long as they aren’t those games which are supposed to be based on skill but unfortunately have been designed such that luck plays a huge role in winning or losing (Hint: Raze 2). Luck based games like Zilch, for example, are fine because they’re supposed to be that way.

Guys, it’s not that hard. Try using the Ripper, Photon Blaster, Shotgun, Assault Bouncer/Bubble Blaster, Holy Grail, Shredder/Focus Beam/Lazor Minigun, and Rocket Lawnchair. Use the equipment where it gives you 1 health instead of death. Use the Katana. It really isn’t that hard.

True, the difficulty itself isn’t that hard. It’s the way the levels are designed which creates the fake difficulty. For example, you need to be lucky to find the Raze Soldier in the last level or you’ll run out of time, regardless of whether you’re skilled at the game or not.

Wait, that ability that gives you 1 health on a fatal hit actually works? It never seemed to work for me, always seemed to get one-shot by the Raze Soldier whenever he had the rocket launcher (which was almost all of the time) even when I had that ability equipped.

It works, and it’s very useful on the last level. I’m not sure whether it has a cooldown or you have to be at full health for it to activate.

Topic: Kongregate / Credibility of Kongregate.com, re: Call of Gods

I was about to off my computer when I saw your post. I don’t know what makes you think I’m upset, but I have no reason to be. After all, I haven’t played the game, and I didn’t lose anything. And yes, things will become free over time such as the very first Elder Scrolls game available for download since it’s so outdated. But for an MMOG, people don’t know when and whether the prices of things will change, so developers should be more specific in indicating in advance these changes.

Topic: Kongregate / Credibility of Kongregate.com, re: Call of Gods

Yeah, but people have already expected this, because some people chose to buy it when the GOTY edition came out. It’s essentially a known fact that prices will go down after a while, because the games are outdated. It was a matter of choice for the people when to buy it. You can’t say the same for this incident, the OP clearly didn’t expect that something that all along had to be paid for, was suddenly reduced what it has become. Flash MMOGs can’t compare to the system that works out there.

EDIT: Since you edited your post my response above is not relevant. Ignore it.

Anyway, I’m really going to sleep now. Bye.

I have no idea what “thing” you’re referring to, all I’m talking about is the fact that in real life, legitimate companies produce detailed Terms and Conditions even though no one cares to read them, so as to preemptively prevent people from finding loopholes to sue the company etc. That’s what I mean by “real life”, and something as trivial as a flash game is not an accurate representation of the real world.

Good day to you, I’m going to bed.

True, I don’t even read Terms and Conditions, I just buy games to play them. But I guess they have to do it anyway, because otherwise people might sue them over something, lol. And yes, I think there isn’t a direct relation between this incident and Kongregate’s credibility.

Actually, it is how things work in real life. This thread is the perfect example of just that.

You’re not seeing the bigger picture. You think the whole gaming industry is made up of flash games? Think about all the big products out there. If the Terms and Conditions aren’t specific enough, customers might find a loophole and sue the company, or the other way round.. the company cheats the consumers of their money etc. They are a perfect example of WHY these developers aren’t doing it right.
