Finding Rares More Reliably, A Suggestion
From the players’ point of view, finding some rare miscrits is extremely unreliable. For example, it took me weeks to find Blazebit, but I had found all the other forest rares in my first two weeks without even looking for them. I recognize that Blazebit is supposed to be harder to find, but that’s only an illustration for this suggestion.
What if the probability of finding rares was calculated differently? Say you checked every pink flower in the forest for a 2% chance to find Tulipinny, but every failed attempt boosted the chance to find it in the Magic Flower by a small amount to as high as 25%, to be reset upon checking the Magic Flower? For transparency’s sake, if a fight resulted from the pink flower check, the percentage boost could be shown in the loot window. That way players could eventually discover for themselves what prop type improved chances to find a given miscrit in the central prop.
Cacti for Thundercracker, rocks for Fossillia, reeds for Waddles, etc. For the location-dependent daily crits on the beach (I’m looking at you, Ignios), checking the prop type they would appear in before checking the correct location (all nests on Tuesday/Saturday, and so on).
This would give unlucky but clever players a way to weight the odds a little more in their favor, and give players who have given up looking for a particular rare something more concrete to work toward. All without making it TOO easy and simply handing success to the player.
It would also make it less hair-tearingly infuriating when the miscrit collector asks you to spend hours, possibly weeks, grinding for a rare he wants only badly enough to give you a handful of gold for it.
Thank you for your time!
