Topic: Serious Discussion / Pennies -- Keep 'em or leave 'em?

You all have valid points…but here’s one thing you forgot:

Each penny is actually used more than once.

It stays in circulations for years and years, being used hundreds of times before being taken out.

In the end, it really isn’t that great a loss. It’s more like .6 cents a penny, more or less depending on the year and the price of copper and zinc at the time in question.

Topic: Kongregate / Idea For A System To Filter Spammers (Second Draft Complete-Suggestions For Final?)

Often, Katsu? Hell, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mod intervention in a Kong chat room.

However, I’m guessing that a flag would call in mods from other rooms.

Topic: Collaborations / I am bored, I write, and I need a project to work on...

As someone posted in another topic, the lack of story in flash games is more due to lack of good ideas than anything else.

Several flash games make solid attempts at telling good stories…sometimes it just doesn’t come out too well. Indestruc2tank, I’m looking at you.

Anyways, I was wondering, Mils…we’re both writers looking for work. What do you think of chatting some time and throwing ideas around?

Topic: Games / Why does everyone hate Coil?

Yes, Darksimal, we’ve already established that.

But what most ultra-conservative J.Thompson characters around here fail to realize is that sperm =/= penis.

I think we’ve established that yes, Mils is going to stop trying to help and simply start ignoring you.

However, as I’ve whispered to you already, you really need to stop posting where you’re not supposed to post. As for unmuting Arcane, you simply go to his profile and click the shiny red “unmute” text.

Now, I would advise you to simply stop posting until Arcane has clarified things for you.

Topic: Kongregate / Proposal: Detailed Review System

Yes, but these would be reviews relative to games, not users.

Also, not all users are…responsible...in moderating the criticism of others.

Topic: Kongregate / Proposal: Detailed Review System

I hereby propose that Kongregate implement a detailed review system, by which serious users wishing to offer constructive criticism can write reviews of user-uploaded games.

Unlike comments, these would have to be approved by moderators before being displayed on the site, and strict rules would be implemented to prevent spamming.

Discuss.

Topic: Off-topic / How to Survive as a Zombie Attacker

Detach your hand, learn to control it telekinetically, and throw it at people.

Also, a little known fact is that zombie organs are highly explosive. Use this to your advantage.

Multiply as quickly as possible.

Alright, JoHnBo1, what would I have to do to get in on this “editor” thing, on a trial basis?

You understand, I want to see the site and the position I’ll be holding provided you want to give me a job and I want to take it.

Topic: Serious Discussion / War and peace

Spinno1, the sad fact is that there will always be people who want war, and all it takes is a few bad apples to ruin a helluva lot of people.

We fought with Iraq because a crazy maniac did come along. His name was Saddam Hussein, and, while our response to his tyranny might not have been entirely appropriate, he was indubitably a very bad man.

See, there are a few nasty characters in every bunch, and the thing about those guys is that they never agree with each other.

You, my friend, are preaching to the choir; the people who you should be trying to convert are the people who like war. I don’t. I’m just saying that the “bloodless war” scenario is the best solution: the nasties get their jollies with minimal casualties, and the people who love peace can have it.

Oh, for the love of Christ…what you’re not understanding, Mils, is that you responding to him is not going to make him stop.

Report the guy, move on, and live with it. As it now stands, you’re being only slightly less annoying than he is.

Well, really I think that war is a necessity. Note, however, that wars do not always involve killing; during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries many wars were fought on the European continent, wars that were strategically planned to involve as few battles as possible. Some wars went by without so much as a skirmish between enemy troops.

These were more like chess games between opposing generals, trying to force retreats and trap armies without direct engagement.

I believe that these wars were essential to the balance of power in the world; for this reason I disagree with the U.N. in its purpose and execution.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Why you shouldn't vote for a president

True, cpasley, but it’s still rather disheartening to be a Republican in Michigan.

One good remedy for this would be finding a better way of tallying electoral votes than “winner takes all” for each state.

Well, maybe I need to rephrase; it’s frustrating to not “get” one of the levels. It feels like a Game over to the average gamer.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Why you shouldn't vote for a president

There is one very simple reason that you shouldn’t vote for president, and one very abstract reason that you should.

Unless you live in one of the few “contested” states, your vote doesn’t count. Why? Because, for example, the Democrat majority is so great in Michigan that it doesn’t matter if you vote Republican; the Democrat candidate still gets all the electoral votes for Michigan. Same goes for the Republican states.

Then again, you’ve gotta wonder…what if everyone thought that way, and nobody voted at all? Unlikely, yes, but improbabilities and even virtual impossibilities have happened before. Hell, why not just vote for president anyway? It’s the best system that we’ve been able to agree on so far, and we’re stuck with it until someone has a better idea.

Someone else raised the subject of perfect democracy earlier, and I will give one simple example to show you why it’s impractical in the United States. If this were a perfect democracy, the will of the 51% would be done, and this would make it possible for a lot of things to happen. The women could enslave the men, because there are more of them. Whites could once again enslave blacks, because there are more of them. There would be no party system unless exactly fifty percent of the population were in each party. Otherwise, one could simply outlaw the other. What would happen then? It has, in fact, happened before.

Topic: Games / Why does everyone hate Coil?

Eh, the problem I had with it wasn’t so much the lack of instructions as the fact that after nine levels the game didn’t show any sign of being anything different.

Sure, once I knew there was more to it, I went back and played it again; but there should have been something to keep the player going after the first Game Over or two, because let’s face it: the game can be tough until you get the hang of it, and not everyone reaches the “fun” part of the game.

Topic: Collaborations / Writer looking for work

Actually, I really think Fancy Pants is the sort of game that benefits from a simple and pointless storyline. I’m quite happy collecting squiggles and pwning spiders for an ice cream cone, but it just wouldn’t be the same if I had to do it in order to stop a kingdom from splitting into two eternally warring factions, or something along those lines.

I extend my services mainly (but not exclusively) to people who want to make slightly more serious games.

Topic: Games / Should Coil Be Banned?

Mitijea has a good point, poignant and frank through it may be.

What’s so obscene about sperm, anyway?

It would be a very different matter if the player acted out the role of a penis during the act of conception. Actually, I think I’ve seen a game like that, but that’s entirely beside the point.

Topic: Collaborations / Writer looking for work

Well, the thing is that I don’t really have much of a portfolio right now.

That’s actually part of the reason I’m looking for a partner; so I can get started with some jobs to serve as portfolio pieces.

What I DO have are several in-depth plot outlines that I’ve been saving for a rainy day; but I’m not exactly thrilled by the prospect of posting them on a public forum.

I would be glad to contact Swish27 through the chat client of his choice to discuss the matter further. Then, he can see my work, and I can see his.

Same goes for anyone else who wants my assistance.

...Phatcat, you should totally do one of those for every topic that hits 50 posts or more. xD

Makes it easier to sift through the issue.

But, on the topic at hand, I think we’ve reached an agreement, have we not?

Coil is a fine, artistic endeavor, and it would be a pity to see it removed on a technicality.

I am a script/plot writer, seeking a project to work on.

If you’re interested, contact me. I’ll look at your project, and three days later I’ll contact you again with basic ideas.

If you’re interested, I can do more in-depth work.
