Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Remnants of Skystone] Lower Price, More Profit: A Poll

I, too, think that this game is high-priced.

While I do agree that the request, nay, the demand among many on this site that all features of this game be made absolutely free for everyone is entirely unreasonable, I also think that it should be available at a price less than $7.50 a month or $100 for life.

Honestly, though, if the price were just dropped to 5$ a month I’d probably pay for membership.

Spammers have slightly different objectives than trolls.

The two categories are, sadly enough, not quite mutually exclusive. Sometimes trolls include spam in their arsenal. And, like I said, that was one of three potential reasons for spam that I listed, not the end-all uniform cause.

President Obama is a visionary who is going to change the world, for the better. How dare you uniformed obtuse pieces of flotsam question his actions.

How dare you suggest we’re somehow lower than you for not submitting to your particular brand of complacent naivete?

I think that hunter-gatherer societies worked because they were small enough that everyone could afford to care about everyone else’s well-being.

The trouble with modern society is that it’s just too big to love. A lot of my countrymen love America, but find themselves hating Americans. So, inevitably, they vote for their own benefit over the greater good.

TheBSG brings refreshing honesty (and a few good points) to the discussion. I’d hear him out.

Oh no a bunch of 11 year olds will refresh your website.

Ph33r.

But seriously, consider this: if there’s such a huge controversy about the vague possibility of the government someday taking some of our guns, can you imagine how society would react in the face of the certainty of the government taking all of our Internet?

I used to enjoy it, but then I just started to get tired. I know of other games that provide the same experience with more gameplay elements and a prettier package. It’s as simple as that.

Actually, no we don’t. The body, being partly composed of carbon, produces carbon dioxide (CO2) from oxygen (O2). That’s right: we have so much carbon, we literally throw it away every time we take a breath.

I think the whole debate is just an excuse to start a trollfest, a flame war, or both.

Honestly, though, if I had to answer the question, I’d say 4Chan. <shudder>

I don’t mind religeous people, as long as they don’t suddenly put their beliefs above mine and say ‘I feel sorry for you, not believing in god’ etc.

Yes, and, as a Christian, I will say that we find it just as annoying to be patronized by movements like “Freedom From Religion”.

Atheists talk down to me all the time and, while occasionally one of them will be civil enough to hear out my side of the argument, they generally assume I’m a delusional fool before the conversation even begins.

The ironic thing is that these days, I see more atheists trying to convert Christians than vice-versa.

My point is that it goes both ways, and no matter how you cut it, the conclusion is simple: This is not a new generation’s attempt to shrug off a tired, dead tradition. This is not a race of superior humans trying to save the rest of the world from damnation.

This is a clash between two opposing worldviews, plain and simple.

No, that’d be vegans. And not even all of them want to force their own practices on others.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Wikipedia grows up.

Wikipedia is an online resource, which can be used for just about anything BUT serious research.

I use it mainly as a casual information source. For example…

Some dude comes up to me and mentions mudkipz in conversation. I wonder “Hey, what the hell is a mudkipz?” and look it up on Wikipedia. Next time he talks to me, I’ll have some semblance of an idea of what he’s talking about.

People as a whole are not intellectually competent enough to be moral and responsible for the environment, or peace. I have begun to consider the vast majority of humans more similar to apes in the sense that it’s unfair to expect them to comprehend global problems like CO2 emissions or not having a military. If we continue to care for the stupid, we will never breach .9 society.

The problem is that the more intelligent you become, the more peaceful you become, so we’re too nice to kill the stupid people.

A friend of mine once suggested taking the safety labels off everything and letting the problem solve itself.

<sigh>

I think that we’ve lost sight of the real issue in the face of petty squabbles over a math problem.

The real debate should be where we place the balance between preserving the plant and progressing civilization. The two ends are not mutually exclusive, which only complicated the already convoluted arguments on both sides.

Thus, both sides find it far simpler to cling to the ideas they’ve held from the start, and make caricatures of anyone who thinks differently.

Hence, terms like “eco nuts” and “pollution apologists”.

Syro, the trick to Adventure #50 is to wait until you’re on the very edge of the platform before you jump. It’s all about timing.

For the record, I think that level is one of the greatest cruelties ever inflicted on gamers. _

The creepiest boss I’ve ever fought was Giygas, hands down, if only because it’s left up to your imagination exactly what he is. There is no absolute in your mind, just a dozen twisted, half-formed possibilities, racing through your mind as you face the final battle of the game.

But as for regular enemies, the Cyborg Midwives from System Shock 2 always creeped me out.

Topic: Kongregate / Let's get rid of spam!

I think the issue shouldn’t be how we punish spam, but rather how we prevent it.

Spam could be cut down by a wide margin if we simply strike at its causes. Let’s examine a few reasons for a noob (or anyone for that matter) to post spam.

A) Post Count – Someone suggested a -2 post count penalty for each deleted post. If spammers knew such a measure was in place, they would be a lot less likely to risk the penalty for a few cheap posts.

B) Promotion – Of course, there’s the occasional noob who decides they want to poach Kong’s popularity and redirect some traffic to their own site. Perhaps we could introduce a system where users could be “flagged” and unable to post links on the forums for a certain period of time.

C) Trolling – And, sadly enough, a lot of people do it for the lulz. If spammers are ignored, they’ll eventually lose interest.
