One of the most challenging things for implementing kongregate badges in this MMO is the drastic clash of game-types from the norm to what this is. Normal Kongregate games can be completed in an hour or less, or at least mastered in that period of time. MMORPGs are designed to be completely on the other end of the spectrum where they take weeks or months to achieve significant goals within the game. I believe Greg’s first two badge selections are excellent — easy badge for completing the first quest, medium badge for reaching a significant level — 20. Summerville (A Hero is Born) or Bleakwoods (Chilling Treasure) arena would be a good hard or impossible badge in my opinion. At the very least, I think a hard badge should be one of the arenas, even with the help of a crazy high level player, the arenas take some time to complete. Perhaps the impossible badge could be unlock underworld, if that quest-line is available in the API. That would require a player to have unlocked all of bellroot, west hills, summerville, coldwoods, bleakwoods, and complete a difficult questline to gain access to Underworld. It would probably annoy the crap out of kongregate members who just want quick badges, but it would rightfully be ‘impossible’ for new players who are up for the challenge of sticking with the game long enough to acquire it.

Multiplayer games are ment to be played with multiple people… Yes the game is quite long and boring if you play solo, that’s why it’s in MULTIPLAYER form. Also yes this game is farily new, it’s less than a year old in total so a lot of new things are being added on a regular basis. For higher level players and lower level beginners. Over the past few months the area “Underworld” has been added for players level 200+ who are looking for new challenges, and “Deadfields” for mid-level 100 players to explore and grow. The arenas especially have each been designed to be taken as a group. There are 7 floors with a total of 50 to 100 battles in each arena. Sure it’s possible to solo them if you level up far enough, but they were made to be team fights. Me and my friends can rip through just about any arena in about a half hour. But it takes 5 of us working together to do that. If your biggest complaint is that the game is too hard solo, then why are you hanging out in a multiplayer game?

The “buy gold” option isn’t “begging” for money. The game is free to play, yes, but it’s not free to run. Nothing on the internet is free, it just seems free to the user because of advertisers or sponsors coming out of their own pocket to pay for it. There are no advertisements within the game itself or on the main site, so to help offset the operating costs, there are ways available for the players to contribute financially. There are direct ways to contribute through payment via paypal or cell phone, or indirect ways where you participate in advertisement offers and the revenue generated from that goes towards operating the game and your participation is credited to you as in-game gold.

bear invasion or bear invasion 2 could work well for an impossible badge if you wanted to toss one of those in there.

Hard Badge: Bleakwoods arena is a very difficult quest, but not too difficult that those less than die-hard Sacred Seasons fans can complete with a good bit of effort. If someone gets this far in the game they’ve played far enough to decide if they want to continue their venture in Sacred Seasons or if they’re only in it for the badge.
I think bear invasion would help to promote the craziness that already exists with noobs running around begging high lvls to do that quest for them >.< I think a badge for bears would annoy kongregate members and sacred seasons members.
Easy badge for completing the first quest could work.
Medium badge for level 33 because at that point people can equip the sword of thorns and notice a rather significant attack increase, which I believe would help encourage players to continue playing.

Yay! Thank you! That worked.

3) One reason that I want to reference a particular frame is my punch action is about 5 frames long, frame 1 the character is pulling back to punch but I don’t want it to register that that will cause damage to an enemy. And after frame 3 or 4 if the player presses an attack button again I want it to go to the next part of the combo.

Is it possible for me to have 1 movieclip consisting of multiple movie clips, in a .fla file, and reference specific frames of clips within a frame of the movie clip, from an outside .as file?

Hi, I’m trying to animate a character and program control over it in an .as file. The animation is 1 movie clip made up of different movie clips for different actions. I was wondering how could I reference in the code, something like frame 3 of the clip within frame 5 of the main movie clip.

for example: the whole movie clip is titled Hero. Frame 1 is titled walk, and holds an animation of the character walking. Frame 2 is titled run and holds an animation of the character running. Etc etc, Frame 5 is titled Punch, and holds an animation of the character throwing a punch. Is there a way for me to reference the third frame in the punch animation?

Simply using _totalframes or _currentframe has been referencing the parent movie clip.

I just feel like ranting a bit…
Bunches of little kids keep running rampant through chat rooms yelling random strings of curse words, are asked to quiet down, proceed to curse more in the name of “Freedom of Speech,” then are upset when they are silenced by a Moderator or ultimately banned by an Administrator.

1) There is no such thing as “Freedom of Speech” in its truest sense. If so, then there would be no such thing as a secret. And words do hurt, so there are limits on what people can and cannot say. Go to an airport, start yelling “Bomb” and complain about your freedom of speech in a security holding cell. lol Even in America our “Freedoms” are not absolute, if even on the simplest level. I’ve heard this quote before and this is the best I can track it to its source

2) Being on Kongregate is not a right nor is it a freedom, it’s a privlage. It’s also voluntary for you to be here or not. When you signed up for an account, and were given permission to add comments into the chat room, you did so under the agreement that you would follow the rules as stated in the Terms of Service agreement and enforced by the moderators and administrators of Kongregate. It’s quite simple when you look at it in whole — you have the freedom to do or say whatever you want, you then want to come here and chat, you make an agreement that you will not do or say certain things as outlined in the ToS, at that point you’ve given up your “Freedom of Speech” in this venue to abide by the rules that govern this venue.

It’s like — if you give someone a toy, and give them the instructions “You can play with it, just don’t break it” and they break it, what are you gonna do? XD Leave it to keep being broken or take it back from them and second guess letting them play with anything anymore?
Here’s Kongregate, you can play with it, just don’t break it :)

that’s the line of code that creates the new buttons that I want to apply the color change to. It’s nestled within an if statement, within an “onEnterFrame” function of a class extends MovieClip as file.

I still haven’t gotten colorTransform to work, I just programed in the area that I wanted colored and used the beginFill command and inserted my random number there.

Oh Freakin wow… I just found a WAY short way to convert a decimal to a hex…

Flash fills in leading 0’s when a color code requires RRGGBB and the number comes up shorter than 6 digits long.

XD Funny side argument going on here… but anywho…

Phantasmagoria, would you be up for looking over my code to try to help me impliment the colorTransform code? I have been seeking help with this far beyond just this forum on Kongregate, but the best I’ve been able to do is get the colorTransform function to compile without errors, but still no actual color changes occured. I’m not even at the point where I’m concerned about converting the random number into RGB values.

For now I’ve just used an entirely different method. I used the curveTo method and beginFill commands to just draw the circle as i need it.

phantasmagoria, i had that same thought last night around when I was tired of dealing with flash for the day. I tried it once but it didn’t work and I didn’t feel like trying to get it to work then. I’m going to work on it in a little bit.

Blastamos, it doesn’t matter what color my original MC is, I want it to be a different color every time it enters the stage. and I want it to enter the stage multiple times.

that’s a thought, but doesn’t really do what i want it to. I would have to make it about 16777216 frames long and have each one numbered in order for it to be able to random select a color within that. or i could truncate it a bit.. but still that ultimately would make the whole game file larger when a simple random color code generator should do perfectly. if i could execute it T_T

i’m not using the .setRGB command, and that hasn’t worked for me anyway. I can’t figure out or understand how to apply the colorTransform command.

I have a black movie clip nestled in _root.Enemy.badButton.enemyColor I want it to come onto stage and I assume that during the function onLoad () { } I want to apply the color transformation to it.

pretty much yeah… that definition. I suppose I need to more formally study AS2 to understand the terms better :( And I’ve seen the .setRGB command and I’ve also seen that they’ve been depreciated.

Specifically… I have a button, I want to click that button, and have it place a new movieclip on the stage _root.attachMovie(etc…) and when that new movieclip comes onto the stage, I want it to be a random color. I’d prefer to randomize the color of one movieclip than to make like a few hundred different colored movieclips and have it randomly select them.
