Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Monstermind] Upcoming Changes

Agree (nearly) entirely with Lacunae here.

The free repair is an incentive to build a high commerce non-fortress town. I simply don’t attack fortresses as they’re generally a net loss. If only fortresses are left, and if I’m encouraged to build a fortress (to avoid repair bills that are too high) then there’s no point to playing. All we have left are a bunch of slightly carnivorous tortoises waiting to “pounce” on newbies with undefended towns. This really won’t help uptake of the game, and old players will become disinterested too.

Question – how much would repair cost? Can it be balanced so that it encourages some defense but also commerce?

Yup, all those hamburger stands need to be sold. Yes, I could stop making them, but….

Well done for continuing to develop the game.

There are some good things, and some not-so-good things. Sadly, we’ll tend to focus on the not-so-good, and it’s very possible you’ll lose a portion of your existing userbase. This should be okay for you, because they probably didn’t spend so much (or why else do the changes imply expenditure of real money?) and the game’s still good enough to continue to get new users who will spend some.

For me, the issues are:

  • Stamina cost increase
  • Loss of town screen (small thing, but the loss of it makes the game seem less interesting)
  • 45 minute cooldown on battles

I certainly like the PvP runaway change, but the graphics? Frankly, I don’t care. The style is actually secondary to the gameplay, and I’m afraid you’ve hurt the gameplay.

Transition issues (such as people not liking that they only have a stack of 20 swordsmen and can’t afford to buy their full amount (for leadership max) are annoying, and if I’d been caught by that I’d certainly be fuming. I think a good gesture would be to allow players to contact you and get free people (as a one-off, for a limited time after the upgrade).

I guess I’m glad I played the game in the previous incarnation, I really enjoyed it, and had even gone as far as “earning” kred through almost-free offers so I could buy gems, but I’m not sure I’ll bother now.

Well done for fixing the issue with full screen being required, that in itself would have made me stop playing the game for sure. I’ll give it a bit of a try, but if I find it’s not my cup of tea I’ll simply move on to the next game. There are plenty out there…
