Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate Chat Levels

Assuming that this would even work (meaning that requiring certain levels or tests to be passed would somehow filter out unwanted people), I’ll give you a reason why it won’t happen. If all the older, more active users go to these rooms, new/unregistered users will see the default chat and be repulsed. Seeing good conversations in chat is a major pull for people to create accounts and become active themselves. So, like it or not, segregating chat would actually be detrimental to the site.

Topic: Off-topic / Paranormal Activites

Paranormal Activity gave me very little scares (there were a couple parts at the end that made me jump, but for the most part it was unconvincing). Also, the acting from the boyfriend guy was sort of pathetic.

For anyone who watched The Blaire Witch Project, the plot line was very similar. First of all, both movies were made out to seem real (I think BWP did a better job at that) and of course, were all seen through a camera lens. Both were also very low budget. At first, they are skeptical of the things, but later everyone starts getting more and more scared. There was the person who wanted to film scary stuff happening, and there was the people who kept telling the person with the camera to stop doing it. Stuff escalates and in the end you’re left with an incomplete idea of what actually happened.

When you get to the popup screen with the blue download button, right click it and select “save file as…”

It will save as a .mp3.

Topic: Serious Discussion / The BEST Anti-Virus Software

I’m not to worried about getting any viruses, so I just want my anti-virus to be free and not bug me about updates or every little thing I open. Avast! gave me way too many false positives and I’m now using AVG Free, which I’m happy with.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Is HDTV Really Worth Every Cent?

To add to the gaming aspect…

Both Microsoft and Sony have said that their consoles will have a 10 year + life cycle, partially due to the fact that most people are still playing on SD TV’s (of course, they will also say that Project Natal, etc. play into it also). Console graphics can’t evolve if most consumers don’t have a TV that can utilize them. So, if you are a gamer, HD becomes quite a bit more important.

It also seems a lot of people don’t even know who created Greg Month, but are celebrating it anyways. (Pssst – it was JudeMaverick!)

Oh, I know it was Jude… I was THERE when it happened. I was also there when Greg was born from the virgin mother. :P

I have a much better quality transparent PNG anyway, if anyone wants to use it:

Sorry dude, but I made that. I took the letter from the the Kong header, decreased the size and put it on the red tag. Yes, I did copy your design, but that’s only because someone asked me too. (Read a few pages back.)

Oh, I see now; I didn’t want to go through ever page of this oh-so long thread looking for how it began, but I was mostly just curious how my year old art made it through all this time! AbusedZebra, in the other thread, made it seem like it was a direct rip and you were knowingly passing it off as your own. Sorry for the misunderstanding, then!

Weird, it seems that people are still using my Greg month banners from last year! Most are bad quality through translation, though :/

Here’s a transparent .png you all can put in a layer over your current avatar, if you want:

Wow, this is a really cool idea that actually looks it will go somewhere! ;)

I wish I was talented/patient enough to make good pixel art. I’ve been admiring rawismojo’s piece for the last five minutes now… It’s just amazing!

Topic: Serious Discussion / The similarities between WWI, WWII, The Cold War/Korean War, and The War in Iraq.

Although not entirely on topic, one thing I’ve noticed is that WWII (at least on the European side) was much like the rise of Napoleon. Napoleon and Hitler both came to power from not very influential families, took power during a shaky time (French Revolution/economic hardships), and used nationalism to spur large armies to take over Europe. Finally, both faced their downfall from trying to invade Russia.

Wars sprouting from dictators certainly aren’t confined to the 20th century, they’ve just become more a deal since democracy has grown to be a standard. And no, I don’t think these are America’s issue at all.

EDIT:

I see them having it coming with Pearl Harbor, but they didn’t deserve to have an attack from the germans in WWI.

I’m pretty sure the reason they attacked the British cruiser was that it was secretly carrying supplies from America, so it was bound to happen sooner or later. You can’t expect to stay neutral while supplying your allies with weapons.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Iraq and War on Terror

Well, pretty much at the time, Saddam Hussein was doing a lot of shady stuff in Iraq. Previous dealings with him and the country (The other Bush mostly) really made Iraq the center of interest then. Bush’s aides started giving faulty information to the Bush administration for whatever reasons and after 9/11 he was able to pretty much scare the nation into backing it up. Congress, who are the ones that Constitutionally have the responsibility of declaring war, really chickened out and passed a bill giving Bush the power to invade Iraq. Their official excuse was to give Bush more bargaining power with the UN, but really they probably just didn’t want the whole thing getting blamed on them if it went bad. Bush told the UN to enter Iraq or the US would; obviously they did not, and we got into this stupid war, finding out that: A) There were no WMD’s and B) We would not be treated as liberators.

Fun Fact: The US has not official declared war since World War II, despite the many wars we have been through since then.

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate Firefox Theme!

Ok, so I loaded a game earlier and forgot to log in. As soon as the chat loaded, there was a Kong message saying “Did you know this game have achievements?” and beside the message there was this ‘badge’:

Great idea! Here’s my take:

Also, I use Paint.NET for these things, just because it uses less system resources and my computer just isn’t good enough to run Firefox and Photoshop at the same time. All you really have to do is distort it in any direction you want, then use multiple motion blurs and duplicate layers under it. After that, you can add shine and other things.

Well, I’m a little less busy than I’ve been recently, so could probably do something again… The reason I haven’t had the motivation to do any new art is that Aidan has already started the address bar art, and the rest of the icons are hardly ever seen and/or I don’t even know how to start them because I don’t know where they actually reside in the browser! These icons include the mail icon, page info icons, and the icons in ‘organizer-toolbar.png’.

Okay, so the light gray for the star normally, dark gray for the hover, red or blue for bookmarked.

And the info icon… Looks slightly similar to Kong’s “what’s this?” icon.

Not much, but I just posted this so Aiden and I wouldn’t waste time doing the same things.

I thought I’d have a go.

Wow, that looks awesome, bobuchan! I love the zombie ant. The only thing I see as a problem would be your text, which wouldn’t fit the “x online playing x games”. Also, the text seems very bland compared to your awesome drawings.

I’d work a little on the key, it looks a little squished.

The key is at an angle (slanting away from you), that’s why it looks short.

Yeah, Malachi, the RSS icon is already being used for RSS. I’m fine with re-using it – that’s just a choice you’d have to make.

Yeah, that was kind of a placeholder; I didn’t know what to do for it, and wanted to get done more quickly. I’ll make another when I get time.

Maybe if you used the scion toolbox icon from kong labs?

Good idea!

thats my best.

Except, you didn’t make either of those. :(

Wow, Malachi, those are great. The icons look amazing. These represent a huge step towards really finalizing the theme, and hopefully getting it to look something like your ‘rough’ preview.

Thanks! It’s really nice being a part of something that, hopefully, will be a huge hit. ;D

D’you think you’ll have time to work on any of the items that need replacement in that .zip I posted a while back?

Yeah, I skimmed over some of that; I think I can get some done Thursday or Friday.

There we are… Full ‘Options’ icons!

The new window button is also random.

Why? It isn’t random at all; the blank badge looks like a window, and the plus is self-explanatory…

The bookmarks looks more like a new window button

It’s a book…

But of course, I do agree that some original ones would look a bit nicer (And some of the current buttons are a bit confusing). However, the idea of taking images from Kongregate games is still a good concept. Perhaps you could keep these images and release different versions?

Topic: Kongregate / Kongregate Firefox Theme!

Argh, sorry guys. Not enough time in my schedule to make the last two icons. I’ll try to get to them tomorrow or Thursday, though. :/

my set of arrows, bars, etc

Okay, but it would look a lot nicer if you only put a gradient on the menu bar, because multiple gradients just make the theme look less streamlined. Also, I’m pretty sure all you need is a one pixel vertical strip…

I guess you can use the RSS one for ‘content’…
