The Book of Gambi [Main Game]
(I’ll write some more in the morning, as I’m really tired right now.)
New York, present day.
4:32 PM
The rain drizzled through Eve’s hair slowly, reminding her what a horrible day it had been.
She thought that it had started out quite nicely, actually. She had managed to find enough food to last her the day and she had been left alone in her
little home undisturbed. However, just as it reached midday, it had started to get worse.
Firstly, It had been raining for 4 hours non-stop and it was getting her nerves.
Then, someone had decided that they wanted Eve’s food. She sighed. She didn’t like it when people did that. So, she ran. Ran as fast as she could. Running
is what she did best.
She rembered chasing and being chased by her father playfully. She grinned to herself and wiped a few droplets of rain that were running down the side of
her face. She remembered those days fondly, as they were long gone now.
After escaping from the person. She found herself lost and had been wandering down the streets, with no idea where she was going. It was quite upsetting.
She frowned, sniffed and peered outside the back alley and into the bustling streets of New York. It was quite nice, actually, watching the citizens who
were blissfully unaware of the world that Eve knew about. Ignorance is Bliss, they say.
She leaned back against the wall, pulling the blanket over herself a bit more, to try and keep warm in the cold.
She could see the busy crowds of people, yet, they probably didn’t see her. She brushed her dark black hair out of her eyes. She hated the colour of her
hair, it made her pale skin stand out more. Although, there wasn’t really anything she could do about it. She shivered and started to think about herself
and her life.
Sure, she was only 13, but she had seen and knew about things that others would only dream of.
Eve knew, for example, that her mother had been a mage, although she had never actually seen her do any magic. Her father had always told her of how her
Mother had been the top in her class at the Academy, the Academy for Arcane Arts, no matter how many times her mother had told him not to talk about. He
couldn’t help himself.
She knew all about the world of magic.
How dangerous it could be.
How, many creatures not from this world would be drawn to magic users like a beacon.
And how rogue mages would be tracked and eliminated by the Hunters. The thought of them made her shiver. Bloodthristy creatures that could only see magic
users. Trained to hunt and kill, no witnessess, no survivors.
She quickly tried to think of something else.
She knew that there was a better side to magic, that it wasn’t a curse.
It could help people, She sighed, but mostly it just caused wars and killed people.
Which is why it was considered a curse.
She picked up a piece of slightly soggy bread from her bag and chewed on it as she thought about the world of magic. She knew all about the various
‘mythical’ creatures that roamed the world, avoiding human eyes for who knows how long.
Eve also knew that she possessed a power that could wipe out buildings, towns, cities.
The light.
The most powerful magical power known to mankind.
She was blessed, apparently. It was a gift sent by the Enlightened to allow mankind to defend itself against the evils of the world.
Eve knew all this.
And Eve was terrified by her own power.
