Simplicity and efficiency equates swag, complexity equates uncoolness.

I have greater patience and intelligence. I’ve learned to better analyze personality types to adapt to situations. On the flipside, I became more cynical in regard to others, which prevents me from enjoying the community as much as I used to.

I just saw two fighter jets circling my area three times at low attitude, which is peculiar considering I don’t live near a military base. Have you ever seen military vehicles up close?

Light years is a unit of length that is based on the distance light travels in a year. Time is the order and duration of events relative to each other. Since something happens everywhere, time doesn’t only apply to humans.

Topic: Off-topic / GeoGuessr

My guess was 0.143km off. I think I was lucky that I appeared in a plaza with a hotel bearing the name of “Tatarstan hotel”. My second guess was 53 km off thanks to a “welcome to Fairmont” sign with a Canadian flag over it. My third guess was 0.1 km off due to me appearing near an arch with “Hammerfest”, the name of a Norwegian town, written on it. Finally, I appeared on a small generic road. This time, I was about 253 km off my target which was located in a central US state.

It’s not about the amount of rooms for each language, but rather the activity in each room. Kongregate is merging rooms that do not fill the minimal posting quotas to increase chatting.

That is possibly the most and by far retarded thing you have said.

What he meant to say is that ninety years might pass on Earth while only forty years passed from your perspective. That’s what I meant by temporal relativity in my first post.

Topic: Off-topic / Informational saturation

TL;DR: Excess of useless information can as much lead to misinformation as lack of information due to its ability to inspire apathy. This attitude may spawn various nonconstructive behaviors in society that prevent citizens from taking the right choices. Do you agree with that or do you think something else creates apathy?

You could if you had the funds. Even then, that would be pretty useless since you’d never find any practical purpose to any of these machines unless you were a scientist. Besides, these things aren’t very easy to carry around.

More accurate? What do you mean by that?

Typically, clocks are off by a second after some time. By “accuracy”, he means that time is very precise for quite a while. In the case of atomic clocks, which are used in the ISS, millions of years are needed for a second to be “lost”.

Everyone does, it’s the international standard.

Really? Like let’s say the space shuttle and you’re in it and you are spinning around Earth, could you still tell the time?

Astronauts are following UTC time, which is constantly updated from the ground. It’s not about sunrise and sunset from their perspective though, but rather about their need to simulate a twenty-four hour long “day”.

All you need is a point of reference and a measurement unit. Of course, since time is relative, the flow of events you’re experiencing in space won’t seem to happen as fast or slowly as on Earth. Whether or not the difference is noticeable depends on how fast you go.

Topic: Off-topic / Informational saturation

We’re all aware of the importance of free speech and unrestricted access to information in modern society. Whether it’s fictitious or real, we’ve all heard of censorship as a threat to knowledge. However, the contrary of censorship that is informational saturation, is a bit less known. This is mainly caused by the fact that information has never been as accessible as today. Thus, this scenario was only raised in fiction.

Similarly to what happens with physical activities, one can get accustomed to information and not pay attention to it if he/she is exposed to it impartially. In the modern world, news networks grant as much interest to pet disappearances and a celebrity’s new wardrobe as global conflicts and social issues. As technology evolves, new media outlets become accessible to the population. As crucial information becomes more accessible, so does the irrelevant. When information is in excess, apathy risks taking the upper hand.

The consequences of this informational saturation are noticeable today in the way persons act and the way media outlets adapt to these actions. When apathy is established, the media needs to modify its content in an attempt to maintain interest. Just like drugs require a higher dose over time, information needs to be more dense to pierce through someone’s indifference. Just like a old fashioned market vendors need to scream over their colleagues to attract buyers, media outlets need to stand out. The result is an easily distracted audience that will favor quantity over quality when it comes to information. Basically, if something isn’t presented in a fast and concise manner, boredom takes over. For instance, things like reading become less “complete”. Certain studies already show that we read text by looking for keywords instead of paying attention to the entire message. We no longer digest information, being content with abundant superficiality.

A democratic government can only survive when its citizens are well-informed and critical. Censorship is a threat in the way that a government prevents its population from doing sensible decisions. Informational saturation is as dangerous though since the population itself no longer thirsts for knowledge.

Do you think censorship is as dangerous as informational saturation to democracy or do you think an excess of superfluous information isn’t enough to instigate apathy? Do you think the problem comes from somewhere else? Do you think informational saturation could ever lead to a dystopian society?

I’m well aware some people will ironically post “TL;DR” in a thread denouncing this attitude. I think this can be an interesting subject though, so it’s worth a shot.

I just don’t feel good about media outlets saturating their content with superfluous information in an attempt to prevent the viewer from becoming bored. It feels like more and more people become less and less focused over time. I guess this phenomenon is for another thread though.

Imagine that you have to go somewhere in the next five minutes, but forget to shut down your computer. In your absence, a stranger enters your session and starts looking at random files in your computer. What would he/she think of you? Would you pass off as a weird person? As an obsessive gamer? As a workaholic?

Have you tried looking in your spam section? Sometimes, emails from corporate websites are sent there by accident. Emailing support@kongregate.com should be the next step if you indeed didn’t receive any message. For obvious reasons, the administration can’t answer you here, so it’s better to contact them through email.
