Hey all,

I’m sorry, but I don’t have happy news. My computer officially died. I’m not sure if the hard drive files will be able to be recovered or not. I still have no other computer so I’m pretty disconnected. And that also means I have no Photoshop to make you all avatars with. I’m fighting to make ends meet. Until things get fixed, I declare this thread closed. I’m really sorry. :(

Here’s what to do if you are unsure that I have your request:

4. Make sure you have done steps 1-3. Okay good, step 5.

5. Quote your request post, adding a note underneath that it had been skipped. It happens. I will verify that you have been skipped, and put you at the top of my list.

TheWhiteAngel’s questions

Johanna kindly covered most. I use an Intuos 2 tablet. Avatars I’ve done since October with no previous experience in anything other than drawing. I can try and isolate a few of those scattered old drawings and add them to the front page.

How come your avatar is just a picture of an animal’s face?

I change it periodically. It just hasn’t been changed in awhile. And strangely enough, I don’t really like to participate in the big trends (expert and grues). I draw enough of them that I feel like I should branch out for myself. I’m also far from a Kong Expert. Whatever expert title I might hold would probably be a technical mouthful that wouldn’t ever fit on an avatar. :P

Wow, guys…. Just wow. I’m not a happy camper right now.

I know quote pyramids are fun, but that’s what other threads are for. I also know some of you are new to my whole request thing. I’ve posted before that I’m going through a rough patch right now and I REALLY need patience from you all. Now, I have to sift through two pages of spam to find the new requests.

The time I use for making avatars is out of my own personal time. These avatars definitely take time. If you can’t wait for me, there are several other wonderful, talented avatar markers in this forum. But if you want something from me, you’re going to have to take a chill pill and not go bonkers when I’m not around! I can’t make a living drawing avatars.

I’ll try to get you avatars soon, but right now I’m a little upset.

EDIT: I also did not do RoadRipper’s new avatar. I am at IdleIssac on the list.

I love it! This is a brilliant idea. It’s a good chance for people to practice without the pressure of perfection. I highly encourage people to try this. I don’t know how daily I’ll be, but I’ll give it a go.

This took between 10 and 20 minutes, all digital. I was chatting for about 15 minutes in between every 2 I worked on this so your guess is as good as mine. It’s a simple character I based off a story I was told. I’m much faster with a pencil.

roflcopter, I made a point of making every feather different. It was important to me.

The wall is overwhelming, no? That why I just post it as a link so it doesn’t eat the screen. :P It’s 20 avatars wide, so there are 260 avatars included. There’s only about 5 left off from the time I updated it. You can tell the difference between January and February by the start of the grues. I would love to hear what some of your favorites are!

1st: Tomsou – Visually dynamic. Great use of complementary colors. The render may be too well blended. The face (particularly the nose) seems smudged into the background. I didn’t even find the figure on the initial pass. Now that I see it, the continued angle, layering and motion is captivating.

2nd: Yuyuter – It’s textured, crisp, well colored, but does lack flow through the sig. The right has movement while the left hangs a little stoically. It also draws away attention since it is crisper than the render.

3rd: krick19 – This is simple, but it works. The energy and composition is there. You just need to kick it up a notch. It bothers me that the left uses roughly smudged lines the same color and intensity as the crisp bursting lines on the right. If one of the textures was more faded back they’d fight less to me.

Craig, I was thinking I was going to have you on the list initially. I love the colors and textures in yours, but the motion and clarity wasn’t there. The blurred double doesn’t add action, just confusion. Your strong character seems weaker because of it. The left part of the double is a good shape that extended and on its own could be a springboard for sideways movement.

arroza, I use the first standard brush in Photoshop: 1px, Hardness 100%, Normal mode, Opacity 100% (you can change if you don’t have pressure control to simulate control), Flow 100% (same as opacity about pressure control). In the Brush settings menu, it should have Shape Dynamics and Smoothing checked. But it’s the standard, so you should just click it and be fine. As far as a challenge, try making a Santa grue. You’ll have plenty of examples to work from and it should be relatively simple. If you want something a little harder, try drawing a realistic animal (flamingo?).

Deathlezz, how long do you want your arrow? And what is it for?

To those who expressed concern, long story short, I have a lot going on. Deriaz kinda hit on one of those things, but it’s more complicated than that. The best thing you can do for me is to keep being patient. Hopefully I’ll not be gone quite so long again. I appreciate all of the concern; I love you all. :)

bluekey and Romans2, I don’t do animated avatars. Magikman was an exception as he gave me frames to work from and I don’t have to put it together. I wish had the time and resources to do it, but I don’t. Sorry.

You could have made this Spidey easily. I feel like you never screwed up it’s so clean and crisp. I’d like to see the other. I see some variation now. Helps in the areas that are texture rather than outline and pulls emphasis in the right places. I want to see this shaded so make sure you do at some point. I don’t care how advanced it is or anything. I just want to see you try and this one is a good one to chance on that I think. Your last one would also be interesting shaded.

Uh oh! I’m not sure what happened. Try resaving the image to your computer and uploading it to your profile again. I can’t really troubleshoot too well since I don’t know the mechanics behind it, but I know the file works because it worked when I tried it on my profile. If you still have problems, try the technical support forum.

Shadowpig, it’s hard. I seem to make it look easy. It takes practice. Doing any kind of drawing with shading can really help prepare you for something like this.

I’ll update the first page shortly. It’ll have links to a video of me making an avatar (no sound unfortunately). I have to plan out an avatar ahead of time to make one of these videos so it’ll probably be the only one I do, at least in the near future.

Shadowpig, it helps that I do actually draw it to make it look drawn. Depends on what it is. Applying different amounts of pressure to get a range of tones helps. I’m not sure I’m explaining that any better. I can send you links to videos of an avatar I drew. That might help.

Ozzy’s right, Eliza_Beth. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t use avatars that I did not make for you. Now that I’ve made you one, we shouldn’t have anymore problems with that I think.
