Topic: Kongregate / Split test: New navigation!

I think this is a nice new update but the My Kong tab is partially pointless since it repeats so much info.
Use scroll horizontally if you can’t see the entire image or right click > view image.

I think the UI should be updated to look something more like this:

This allows for much more content in the My Kong tab. Please do something similar to this Kongregate Admins/Devs.

Wow, you did a great job with this new engine.
One thing that needs to be changed is the resolution of the game, the interface takes up too much of the screen. I constantly find myself minimizing and expanding…

Thanks, I didn’t notice they took out the tipping option until today.

On Topic: It would be nice if earning badges while in cinematic mode was more noticeable. I like they what Armor Games do when you earn an achievement (I wish I could show an example).

Whatever happened to donating kreds to devs? Was that intentionally removed?

Topic: Game Programming / Unity3D Hunger and Health Script

Part of your code is in another language (by language I mean not English) so I don’t quite understand it. If it helps here’s a script in C# that works perfectly.

using UnityEngine;
using System.Collections;

public class health : MonoBehaviour {
public int maxhealth = 100;
public int curhealth = 100;

public float healthbarlength;

// Use this for initialization
void Start () {
healthbarlength = Screen.width / 2;
}

// Update is called once per frame
void Update () {
AdjustCurrentHealth(0);

}
void OnGUI() {
GUI.Box(new Rect(10, 10, healthbarlength, 20), curhealth + “/” + maxhealth);

}

public void AdjustCurrentHealth(int adj) {
curhealth += adj;

if(curhealth < 0)
curhealth = 0;

if(curhealth > maxhealth)
curhealth = maxhealth;

if(maxhealth < 1)
maxhealth = 1;

healthbarlength = (Screen.width / 2) * (curhealth / (float)maxhealth);

}

}

For reference of course.

Topic: Game Programming / Kong API with MySQL?

Does it need to be secure?

Also, have you used MySQL before?

And, have you use any server-side programming language that will function as the intermediary between your client and database? (php, node.js, ruby, etc).

Lastly, do you have a web server that will allow this functionality? (have a mysql database with some server-side programming language on top of it)

Yes I have used server-side scripting before. I used PHP (I’m not a master at it but I understand how to use it). I have a webserver with MySQL. I just want to know how I should make the table. And submit highscores to Kongregate using the database. Yes it would need to be secure.

Edit: I also used MySQL before.

Topic: Game Programming / Kong API with MySQL?

So I’m trying to make a game where I will save the players info like: The last level he/she completed and his/her best score.
This info will be uploaded to my site and then uploaded to Kong.
I was wondering how I should set-up my MySQL table.
Also
I believe I need the UserId, but how can I use the UserId to “login” and resume the save? I’m using Unity3D btw.

Topic: Kongregate / Good games buried alive: A Kongregate story

That article is so true, except for the API part (I don’t think it’s that hard to code in AS3). You only get 1 chance to get loads of players. And those players will be the ones scrolling through the new games section (Not hot new games). If other people don’t upload too much, then you may get lucky and have people that get to play your game. If your game is good then you have a chance to get to “How New Games” (On the homepage). And you win. But you have to either be very lucky or be a well-known developer.

If every game had an anti-hack system like Berserk studio has, the highscores would be protected.

I really think there should be a reply button, not for questions/answers.
Sometimes people face bugs in games and post in the comments “This game doesn’t work, I would give this a 0/5 if I could” instead of the developer replying the community could reply and say “Don’t buy the last gun with the laser suit. It causes a bug.”

I agree with what you said about replying comments. Adds more variety.

And makes Kongregate more social.
I think making Kongregate more social is what the web designers has been trying for a while.

There are 3 possible solutions.
Maximize your window… In the picture your window isn’t maximized.
Change your resolution to 1920×1080 and maximize your window.
Lastly, use Firefox.

He has already come to that conclusion.

The difference between Chrome and Firefox is simply that Firefox tries harder in the error case. Chrome sends 6 SYN packets over 10 seconds trying 2 different outgoing ports before giving up. In one case, I saw Firefox send out 14 SYNs over 42 seconds and 5 different ports – on the final try, it used the 5th port and it worked.

Sorry I missed that post (:D).

It probably has something do with your ISP then.

Extremely unfair that these downloadable games are going to be immune from 1/5 bombs

Also gamestop is sounding to sound like the illuminati of kongregate.

lol^ Surprisingly GameStop didn’t ruin it that much.

All EXE should be on Impulse/Steam. Unless it’s at least 90% Free to Play. ABP’s Kong version isn’t playable. It’s a pay to win game. That should be on Impulse not Kong. Keep Kong Free (:D).

Like I said nobody really liked it. A lot of game reviewers didn’t even bother to review it. And the people that did gave it mediocre scores. I’ll try to find the score on metacritic.

Edit: Googling is pretty efficient. :D
http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/apb-reloaded

The company scored it 56/100
The people scored it 5.8/10

How is the score on Kongregate is so high?

Edit 2:
GameSpot:
http://www.gamespot.com/apb-reloaded/

User score 6/10

GameRankings:
http://www.gamerankings.com/pc/632395-apb-reloaded/index.html

Company Score 55.29%

GameFAQS
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/632395-apb-reloaded

User Score 6.1/10

PCGamer
http://www.pcgamer.com/review/apb-reloaded-review/

Company Score 57/100

Eurogamer
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-07-apb-reloaded-review

Company Score 5/10

IGN
http://www.ign.com/games/apb-805246/pc-93038

User Score 7.8/10

As you can see the highest ratings was on IGN which was 7.8/10, every other site gave it 5-6/10.
The supposed Kongregate User Score was 8.8/100

MMOs also receive this treatment—you have to play the game for a certain minimum period of time before your rating will count.

I think this would be a positive treatment—if only it applied to all games.

It’s not even a fun game. I seriously doubt anyone who downloaded the game actually liked it…

Edit: Holy crap, its risen in rating and is now the #1 shooter on kong…

It’s fake. That game was released commercially (I remember it, it was supposed to be the female-GTA), nobody liked it. GameStop is just trying to get their end of the pay.
