Bobby, the Bounty Hunter is probably a reference to Boba Fett. Additionally, Bobby’s lv. 100 ability, Sweeping Strikes, states that he swings his sword “back and forth, side to side” to create a barrier of “hard steel”. This is a reference to the song Back and Forth by Dr. Steel, for which the chorus is “We go back and forth, back and forth, side to side”

Cut the probably. He IS a reference to Boba Fett. He’s even got a jetpack and everything. :)

I’m pretty sure Khrysos’ flavor text references the Lord of the Rings:

“Pass as much as you can on to your offspring. Ther’s a lot of gratification in knowing it won’t just go to some random jerk who certainly doesn’t deserve it.”

Sounds ALOT like when Bilbo gave all his stuff to Frodo and pissed off the relatives.

A sort of ‘hide upgrades’ system. What it could be is that each icon for an upgrade has a little X in the corner. Clicking this will send it to the bottom of the list as if you’d bought it, but it remains unpurchased. You can scroll down at any time to purchase it if you wish. This could also come with a button in the Settings menu that says ‘Unhide All’ which allows you to move the X’d upgrades back to the top of the list (if not already purchased).

I hate to be rude, but I already got that. If you read in the achievements where the shrimp have a 3-point combo I reference a drinking game: ‘for every time they reference GoT, take a shot.’ That’s why I say to just take another shot by Game of Loans.

I like ‘German Word for Ragnarok’ better than “Lemon Twilight.” Makes more sense given the fatalistic nature of other Lemon achievements.

I also feel like the Operating x VIII is some sort of science-y reference. Like some sort of space station or something…scientology seems too odd to fit. I dunno.

Ok, so someone explained to me what I was doing wrong and now the formatting is back. Yay.
For anyone interested, apparently formatting (including Enter Spaces and the stuff like stars for bolding and underscores for italics) breaks here if you have more than 45 dashes (these little buggers – ) in one post.

There’s a few things left to figure out that I’m sure are references, but Google doesn’t want to help me with them:
Operating Lemon VIII
Citrus of the 7 Suns (Might be a Saga of Seven Suns reference, but I’m not sure. My gut says otherwise, but I can’t recognize anything…)
Lemonokereti

Interesting, good to know. Much thanks for making that, I’ve gone in and fixed the issue.

Topic: Technical Support / Formatting Error

On my screen, I’m seeing formatting errors in my forum posts. I’ll have enter spaces and code stuff (like the stars around stuff to bold it) in my text, but when it’s saved nothing actually is there. No enter spaces, formatting just shows the icons, and my big posts are a mess now. Is this just my side?

Test Huh. It’s not working in this other post. http://www.kongregate.com/forums/2606-adventure-capitalist/topics/422726-adventure-capitalist-references Any ideas why?

Good luck sifting through it…if it’s the same as it is on my screen, the formatting has all gone right down the drain. I suppose maybe quoting it would allow you to copypaste the better formatting into a Word document or something so that everything is neater and easier to copypaste to the wiki. Also, there’s probably ALOT more references in the achievements than I listed, solely because I’m kinda torn on where to draw the line. Alot of the Lemonade stuff is just lemon-(insert word part here), like referencing Armageddon or Ragnarok or…oh screw it, time to update the original post again.

Lost on reset. But, if you reset smartly, you won’t miss them for long (like other AI upgrades you sacrifice). Generally, if you reset right, you should be able to recoup the AI losses you’ll have initially quite fast.

Holy Moolah seems a bit too generic to be a reference, and I’m against listing Dogecoin because it’s direct as opposed to the references listed already (pretty much every other reference is mildly obscure or at least modified to make it not as obvious – see James Camera, Jenn Catsburger, etc.).

In zombie apocalypse survival lore, an oil rig is supposedly the absolute best place to be to avoid zombie attacks because they can’t get to you. If you’ve got fresh water beneath you, you can drink. You can fish to eat (long line, I know). And you keep the biters away because they have no way up to you.

Looked it up – “Left 4 Dead 2 Oil Rig” appears to lead to videos of a game mode in such, making that check out. Also found a page on some sort of zombie apocalypse survival wiki which specifies that offshore rigs are the way to go here. More dangerous, but good if you need a short-term location to stay. Bad in long term due to the elements, possible pirates, and no real way to grow more food (it’s offshore…this ain’t Minecraft, son. Can’t drop a few dirt blocks, take a hoe to them and start planting wheat).

So I figured I’d make a thread cataloging all the references I could find ingame (and the references other people get that I miss…and I’m sure I missed plenty), since I hadn’t seen any other threads like it. I’ll try to parse it out somewhat to make it easier to process.

Managers
Cabe Johnson ~ A Portal 2 reference. He is the man who talks about making life take back the lemons it gives you. And also who discusses using lemons to burn a house down, but that’s a story for a different reference.
Perry Black ~ A reference to Perry White, the owner of the Daily Planet (Superman). Combines this reference with Conrad Black, who was a disgraced newspaper publisher.
W.W. Heisenbird ~ A reference to Walter White of ‘Breaking Bad,’ who takes up the alias Heisenberg and opens a car wash for the purpose of money laundering.
Mama Sean ~ A reference to the pizza chain Papa Johns’. The image is based on Michael Jackson, who had a song in which a phrase sounding like “Mama Sean” could be heard.
Jim Thorton ~ A reference to the Canadian food chain Tim Horton’s.
Forest Trump ~ A reference to Forrest Gump, who piloted a shrimp boat after leaving the military. The last name is also a secondary reference to Donald Trump, based on the image.
Dawn Cheri ~ A reference to Don Cherry, CBC commentator for ice hockey.
Stefani Spielburger ~ A reference to Stephen Spielberg. If you don’t know who that is, go ask Google. I hear he knows everything…
The Dark Lord ~ A combination of Saddam Hussein and classical Satan, referencing the South Park movie in which the two were lovers, of all things. Thus making this manager their love child. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find some brain bleach after that one…
Derrick Plainview ~ A reference to the oil derrick, the machine used classically to harvest oil from the ground (and also the machine in the icon used ingame). Image also refers to There Will Be Blood, specifcally Daniel Day Lewis’ character therein.
Ebenezer Rockerfeller ~ A combination of Ebenezer Scrooge from Charles’ Dickens novel A Christmas Carol and Rockefeller, a late 1800s businessman who is known for his monopoly over the oil industry.
Darky McGrumpface ~ Grumpy Cat. Do I need to say more?
Jenn Catsburger ~ A reference to Jeffrey Katzenburg, CEO of Dreamworks. They made Shrek, which explains the ingame image.
Dwayne Greatsky ~ A reference to Wayne Gretsky, hockey player.
Cpt. Janeway Krunch ~ A reference to Captain Krunch (as in the cereal). Also a reference to Captain Katherine Janeway of Star Trek: Voyager.
Homer Sprinkles ~ A reference to Homer from the Simpsons, and the image references Homer, the ancient Greek author of such epics as The Odyssey and The Iliad.
P. J. Fries ~ Phillip J. Fry, Futarama.
Gus Pollos ~ Another Breaking Bad reference. Gus Fring owned a chain of chicken restaurands called Pollos Hermanos.
Milly Bayes ~ Billy Mayes.
Gladys Caroline ~ Another Portal 2 reference, this time to GLaDOs and “Caroline.”

Upgrades
Immaculate Consumption ~ A reference to the Catholic teaching of ‘Immaculate Conception’ which states that the Virgin Mary was born without Sin.
Combustible Lemons ~ Yet another Portal 2 reference, specifically to a part of Cave Johnson’s speech in which he claims he will have his engineers make lemons that can burn a person’s house down. He even says the phrase “combustible lemon.”
Lord Stanley’s Cup ~ A reference to one of the highest trophies of Major League Hockey, the Stanly Cup.
James Camera ~ A reference to movie director James Cameron.
Eternal Revenue Service ~ A reference to the IRS or Internal Revenue Service.
Dessert Pizza ~ A reference to Pizza Ranch’s special ‘Cactus Bread,’ also known as Desert Pizza.
Alcubierre Drives ~ Refers to the theoretical physicist Miguel Alcubierre’s drive, which is a theoretical method of travel that is also faster than light.
Super PAC Man ~ A reference to Pac Man of old. PAC stands for Political Action Committee, for anyone wondering.
Temporal Retcon ~ Refers to a temporal rift, a distortion of the space-time continuum, and a retcon, which changes a character’s backstory. They’d combine to work rather well, supposedly.
Shrimp is Life ~ A reference to a Youtube video, which had Shrek in place of Shrimp originally.
Post-Credit Neuralyzer ~ References the Neuralyzer from Men in Black, which wipes the recent memories of anyone affected by it. Incredibly effective for a movie theater, as it’d make people not remember the movie they just watched, thus going back for more.
Zombie Proof Rigs ~ Possibly referring to a Left 4 Dead 2 map which was on an oil rig. Also refers to zombie apocalypse survival lore in general, which recommends going to an oil rig because it’s apparently safe there. But that’s because we’ve never actually had an apocalypse situation to test it, so for all we know this upgrade would be needed in real life.
Your Body is Ready ~ A meme reference, specifically the ‘My Body is Ready’ meme. Reggie would be proud.
First Amen-dment ~ A combination of the First Amendment (Freedom of speech, religion, etc.) of the US Bill of Rights and Amen, a common colloquialism in religions.
Unrefusable Offer ~ A reference to The Godfather’s classic phrase “an offer you can’t refuse.”
A Towel ~ A reference to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which points out that a towel is by far the most important thing a hitchhiker can bring with him on any venture, be it physical or fiscal.
Paradise Lost and Found ~ A reference to the poems Paradise Lost and Paradise Found by John Milton.
Black Friday the 13th ~ A combination of Black Friday, the most notorious shopping day of the year, and Friday the 13th, stereotypically seen as an unlucky day.

Achievements

Lemogeddon ~ Lemon combined with Armageddon.
Lemonarok ~ Lemon combined with Ragnarok.
Citrus of the 7 Suns ~ Possibly a reference to the Saga of Seven Suns series by Kevin J. Anderson. In case the title didn’t give it away, the genre is Space Opera.
Lemonokereti ~ Lemon combined with Frashokereti, the final renovation of the universe according to Zoroastrainism. In this renovation all evil shall be destroyed. Well, when that happens we’ll be losing our banks and oil rigs. Shame.
The 2nd Squeezing ~ Lemon combined with ‘The 2nd Coming’ (Of Jesus, it’s a religion thing).
Lemonlightenment ~ Lemon combined with Enlightenment.
The Lemonhead ~ Reference to the candy of the same name.
Impossibrew ~ Reference to the internet meme ‘Impossibru.’
Extra! Extra! Read All About It! ~ Combined 2 achievements, a reference to the stereotypical way paperboys would advertise newspapers to passerby. When people still bought them.
Digital Digest ~ A reference to magazine “Reader’s Digest.”
Such Hockey ~ Doge reference. Much wow.
Oil Coup-on ~ Combination of a coup, a takeover by force (an illegal one) and a coupon.
Talkie Ads ~ Another old-timey reference, ‘talkies’ were the first instances of movies with spoken voice. Before this, they would have that classic ragtime piano music and occasionally cut to a screen with lines written on it.
Working at the Carwash! ~ Music reference.
Grey Goo Detergent ~ Reference to one possible end of the world, specifically one involving self-replicating robots that consume everything. Or that one game on Kongregate where you play some grey goo that eventually gets so large it is larger than the Earth and protects it from asteroids and whatnot. Well, until it’s large enough that it can successfully consume the Earth.
When You Wash Upon A Star ~ Another Music Reference, ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ from Pinocchio.
Bubbles! ~ A reference to the Finding Nemo character of the same name.
Are You Reading These? ~ Damn right I am.
Wax On Wax Off ~ A Karate Kid Reference.
Everlasting Pepperoni ~ A reference to Willy Wonka’s “Everlasting Gobstoppers.”
Pizza Stuffed Pizza ~ Yo dawg, I heard you love pizza… (For those who don’t get it, it’s a meme.)
That’s Amore ~ Amore means love in Italian. In actual reference news, it’s a reference to a Dean Martin song of the same name.
Over 1 Decillion Served ~ A reference to McDonalds’ claim of “Over 99 Billion Served,” just scaled up to AdCap levels of awesome.
Wibbly Wobbly Deliveries ~ A reference any self-respecting Whovian should get. For the rest of us, it’s a Dr. Who reference.
Pizza Putt ~ A reference to Pizza Hut. Possibly also a Spaceballs reference to Pizza the Hutt (their take on Jabba, except made out of pizza and voiced by Dom DeLuise).
Pizza Roll Call Center ~ Pizza Roll, Roll Call, Call Center. Need I say more?
Unobtainium Crust ~ A reference to Avatar.

Unified Donut Theory ~ A reference to the “unified theory” or “doughnut theory” which states that all black holes are surrounded by doughnut-shaped structures of thick dust that can completely obscure a black hole depending on the viewing angle.
Roll Up the Outer Rim ~ A reference to an event Tim Horton’s (the reference Jim Thornton is) does yearly called “Roll up the rim to win.”
Got Donuts? ~ Maybe, but here’s a better question: Got Milk?
Long John Long Johns ~ References the kind of donut (a filled donut called a Long John) and the term for underwear. Thus, it is underwear made from donuts.
The Donutrix ~ “Wake up Neo…they made apple spice donuts.” In all seriousness, it’s a Matrix reference.
Then Who Was Donut ~ A reference to the meme “Then Who Was Phone?”
The Shrimpularity ~ A reference to The Singularity, a theorized event marking the point at which artificial intelligence reaches the same level as human intelligence.
Srimpocalypse ~ Shrimp combined with Apocalypse.
Begun the Shrimp Wars Have ~ Yoda from Star Wars. “Begun, the Clone War has!” (Not quoted: “HmmmMMMmmm…”)
King in the North Sea ~ Game of Thrones reference to the King of the North.
The Blackwater BBQ ~ Another GoT reference, this time to the Battle of the Blackwater.
Battle of the Bilge ~ Reference (possibly) to the Battle of the Bulge in WW2. Germans try to capture a port, this port is on a river that leads to the North Sea, which is quite shrimp-laden from what I’m told.
The Red Wetting ~ GoT reference, take a shot (as in I’m making a drinking game reference here). This time the Red Wedding.
Daily Game 7 ~ A reference to the 7-game series used in all NHL playoff series.

Crude Empire ~ References both a business empire made off crude oil and crude oil from the company Empire.
Drill, Baby, Drill! ~ A reference to a Sarah Palin quote from the 2008 debates. Seriously though, she was totally fan service. God help us if she had become president… (That’s not Democratic or Republican, that’s common sense.)
Adam Smith Award ~ Reference to Adam Smith, the ‘Father of Economics’ who came up with the concept of “Supply and Demand” and the Invisible Hand of the Marketplace.
The One True Investor ~ A reference to the One True King. Take a shot.
Game of Loans ~ Just take another shot already.
Midas ~ You’re so rich, everything you touch turns to gold. Including the lemons. But that other upgrade isn’t really a reference.
Literally Can’t Even ~ A reference to the meme of the same name.
Psyche! ~ Before 1.4.5, this achievement was labeled ‘The End of Phase 1.’ Now that it goes up to 2000, this is no longer the case.

Hey guys, I don’t think I can keep playing. The game was fun for me at one point, but I feel that (for me) it has lost that charm. I’ve done some good (I think) before my parting – I’ve done some work on a safehouse in midtown called “castle” – adding a bunch of shovels so the rooms can be cleared, clearing a bunch of the basic rooms and adding bits to their upgrades and contributing a bunch of construction points. Figured I could give the clan a bit more of a foothold in midtown with my resources before I left. Hopefully the game won’t reverse them or something stupid like that once I leave. Good luck to you all. (Waves goodbye and leaves)

As has been said before, it would probably be best to focus on ones that are already built (i. e. Themiscrya, Suxin No. 1, Suxin No. 2) because we already have way more than enough safehouses.

Also, a note about construction points – don’t contribute anymore to Olympus for now, I’m willing to bet it has more than enough to finish maxing out. They’d be more useful at Themiscrya or Suxin No. 1 or Suxin No. 2.

I’ve been working personally on Themiscya because I felt like it was in a good location, Suxin No.1 might be my next target (although it definitely doesn’t follow the clan theme).
