Topic: Serious Discussion / Blood and Organ Donation

My father is one of those people who refuse to be an organ donor. His excuse is that he thinks the medical staff will let him die to get at his organs. Insane.

I’ll never understand those people who refuse to let their organs be used to save/improve the lives of others. It is one of the most selfish actions I can think of. You’d rather have the organs buried to rot or burned up than help your fellow man in a way that costs you nothing. Your meat is not “you” once you’re dead. There is no reason to waste your organs.

I wish that here in the US that everyone was required to donate but failing that why can’t we make organ donor the default stance so that people would have to make an effort to refuse to donate? Have them fill out a long government form once a year to stay a non-donor and watch how quickly the long waiting lists for organs disappears. On my more angry days (when I think of the people I know who suffer or died because people refuse to donate), I wish that people who aren’t organ donors wouldn’t be allowed to get donations when they need them. If you’re too selfish to donate then why should society grant you access to other people’s organs? Of course, I could never turn those people away but it is a shame that they can’t think of others’ suffering until they feel it themselves.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / Far too many pay-to-win games

One thought. That all MMOs on here do not fit the FREE games label that Kong calls itself. They are all but unplayable without spending cash and shouldn’t even be on Kong let alone the focus of the homepage. The fact that the games aren’t even good as MMOs just makes it worse.

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

I want something I can set once in my profile to block all MMOs from ever showing up again anywhere on Kong. I want to see the real “Hot New games” and not have it full of MMOs with oddly high ratings. I’d like to easily see which non-MMOs are really being played the most. It is pointless to waste my time having to hunt for the non-multiplayer and non pay to play games since I’ll never play any of those and will not spend a cent on them.

I’m also sick of clicking on a game just to find that its yet another one of these pay to play cookie cutter MMOs or some game full of pay to play features. Add a tiny “M” to multiplayer games’ icon thumbnails and/or require that the first tag shown is multiplayer for these games so they can’t fool us into “playing” them. I just end up giving them a 1/5 rating and closing that tab right away anyway so why not just allow me to avoid these games entirely. How about adding a little $ on the icon of any game that has pay to play features? Of course neither of these user friendly suggestions will come true as Kong moves further away from being a great FREE game website.

Topic: Kongregate / Changes Coming With The New GameStop Deal

These changes would fit in with the decline of Kong perfectly. I’m surprised they haven’t gone this far yet. They’ve already all but killed what was once the best FREE game site.

On a related note, it is funny how pay to play MMO games fill up the hot new games section week after week and all have high ratings despite their comments sections being filled with negative comments. It is almost like the system is fixed. Not that I’d ever accuse a great company like Gamespot of such shady tactics.

Topic: Kongregate / The death of Kongregate?

Kong died when pay to play games became the focus. We’re all playing on Zombie Kong which sounds much cooler than it turned out to be. Remember when Kong was full of awesome FREE games and the front page wasn’t full of cookie cutter money hungry horrible MMOs? Somebody should have shot Kong in the head before it turned on its users trying to bleed their wallets dry. So maybe Kong is now Vampire Kong instead of Zombie Kong. Still a horrible undead corruption in either case.

Shame that the questions suck. One of them ask about a moon crater with a specific diameter but of course there are multiple one with that diameter. Waste of time.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Monsters' Den Chronicles] Random questions you'd like to know the answers to but are difficult/tedious to check:

Probably a silly question but I can’t find answer (although it appears that people have used different builds but they don’t say if they just restarted)and don’t want to lose my save. Just started playing and finished act i. Can I go back and play act i again without losing the stuff I’ve done? I’d like to try a different party combo. If I can go back and start act i again without losing my progress, can I use one or more of the characters I’ve already leveled up? For example, I used Hadrian, Ignus, Lucius, and Holm to finish act i and they are all level 5 now. If I try to play act I with one or more of these guys plus new level 1 players, what will happen? Will they revert to level one? Will they still have their equipped items? How about the items in the bags and party gold? What if I want to try act II with either all level one players not previously used or a mix? Will the level one players be useless or the higher level players overpowered? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Topic: Kongregate / MMOs Are Ruining Kongregate...

So will anyone employed by Kong bother to show up here and try to defend the way they mix MMO games in with single player games despite numerous people asking for easy way to see which is which? How hard would it be to put a little “M” in the corner of the game’s icon to show that it is a MMO/multiplayer game? It is a joke that I have to either waste my time loading games that I have no interest in, hope that the tiny text description mentions up front that it is multiplayer, or open multiple tabs so I can check whether the game shows up as a multiplayer game prior to clicking on it. Total joke.

No I’m not “doing it wrong.” The problem is that the Kong website design makes it difficult to determine if a game is multiplayer until after you click on it. I used to just click on the top rated games or weekly top ranked to check out new games. I would sometimes select the genre when I was in the mood for a particular type of game. All of those option mix mulitplayer games in with single player with no clear way to tell which is which. Sure on the front page you can see the tags that usually tell you if a game is multiplayer but those tags disappear as soon as you leave the front page. Instead I’m forced to read the little descriptions in the hope that it makes it clear whether this is a multiplayer game. Usually that fails because a multiplayer RPG or strategy game will say the same generic thing (“raise an army and fight evil” or “Defend your castle”) that one often finds in single player games from those genres. I sometime open another tab with the multiplayer/MMO genre so I can check to see if a new game is there before I waste time loading it in the other tab. There should be a setting that allow me to hide games by tag or genre. It would also help people to better find the type of game they want. Of course since that would help people to avoid the cash hungy multiplayer games and thus cost Kong I doubt any change will happen.

I’d kill for a setting that allowed me to hide all multiplayer games on Kong. Sick of clicking on a “hot new” game only to find that it is yet another multiplayer copy of all the other money hungry multiplayer games. I haven’t found one multiplayer game on this site that is worth any money or time investment.

Remember when Kong was full of good single player games that didn’t ask for money every three seconds and you could play games without facing endless annoying ads (which of course force you to install ad blockers which are met with a silly screen before every game)? The decline in Kong started with kreds and reaches a new low month after month. “Kongregate: Play free games online” That was a true statement at one point. Anyone know a site that offers what Kong did in the past?

Topic: Kongregate / "Hey! Are you running an ad blocker?"

I’ll disable my ad blocker as soon as Kong gets rid of all of the pay-to-play games. When the site title says “Kongregate Play FREE games online” but I keep getting asked for cash every other game, I have little desire to help you generate ad revenue. I used to leave off my ad blocker on this site but that was before you sold out to the cookie cutter MMORPGs that are designed to suck out micro-payments from my wallet , the demos that have no ending unless you pay, the crippled games with key features turned off unless you hand over cash or visit some other website, and all the other nonsense. Kong lost the moral high ground years ago on this issue so your little heart robot makes me laugh. FREE games were the real heart of Kong.

Topic: Kongregate / Official Kong Plus Thread

Can’t say this new membership scheme is a shock. This site started going downhill with kreds. Then we had the deluge of horrible pay-to-play games especially the cookie cutter MMOs that got front page status to push their nonsense. The next step downward was the partnership with Gamestop, a company doing all it can to destroy the game industry by sucking billions out of it with their developer-killing used game trade market. Now you want 30 bucks for some icons, wallpapers, chat rooms, taking away ads I never see, and “extra-fastness” from customer support? Pull the other one.

Topic: General Gaming / What's the deal with Prince of Persia?

Why is Kong becoming worse with every passing day?
1)Ads pretending to be games
2)Games full of pay to play “features”
3)Games that require you to go to another site to actually enjoy the game.
4)Idiotic flash-MMOs that suck and usually have all the problems from the first 3 points.

It is a real shame to see this site decline so fast from “best online gaming site on the web” to “clone of all the other money-hungry gaming sites that I avoid.” I fully expect to stop visiting Kong sometime this summer when the daily annoyance of trying new “games” that offer little enjoyment and want to get more of my money than top Xbox or PS3 games. Oh well it was nice while it lasted. Anyone know any good online gaming sites that aren’t full of this crap?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Where were you on 9/11?

I was at work in a government building in downtown DC. I was in a conference call when someone knocked on my door to tell me that a plane hit the WTC. I thought that was very odd but went on trying to wrap up my meeting when the woman on the phone with me told me that another plane hit the other tower. I quickly left my office and went to another room where people had a television on. The news channel were just replaying the second crash. People were coming and going from the room with the tv. I tried to call my wife and when I finally got through we both agreed to leave work and head for home. I was also trying to call about my sister who worked in Manhattan. I couldn’t reach her but found out from my parents that she stayed home sick that day. Then someone told me the Pentagon was hit. This really struck me since I worked on DoD projects and had regular meetings at the Pentagon. I would have been there on 9/11 if we hadn’t rescheduled a meeting back a week. At that point I left work and headed home to see my wife. The DC streets were oddly quiet and there were FBI agents (I was near their field office) with pistols out at each corner on my short walk from my government office building to the Metro. Surreal and disturbing.
