“Thank you,” I reply, following Fredra down the steps. It’s somewhat of a relief to see that this secret society is actually legitimate and not some sort of scam. It’s not like they would get much out of my anyway; I have no coins on me and my weapons are not a luxury.

“How mysterious.” My remark may have sounded a bit sarcastic, but it certainly wasn’t my intention. More so, I’m a bit shocked that Fredra is taking me to their hangout after talking to me for only a few minutes, if that. I take a bite out of the bread and begin to follow her, wondering what makes me so special that she would extend an offer to me without getting any more details.

A secret society? It sounds like I would fit right in. I hope they don’t have any initiations or something of that sort for new members. “I am definitely interested. Don’t worry about the hangout spot, I’m not royalty so I don’t expect anything fancy. How many members do you have? If you can’t give me an answer right now, that’s fine. I completely understand.”

“Hey, wait,” I call out to Fredra, but not necessarily making an effort to chase after her. “Maybe I should have let you explain. Tell me, what do I have potential for? At this point in my life, I could use a change and I’m willing to hear you out.”

I thought Murasa was in the front too.

BTW Sypher, you butchered Anneliese’s name.

Is it really? How long do you sleep exactly? Because Nine hours is a fairly normal time to be sleeping.

People don’t live in the same timezones. Too much inactivity.

A timezone shouldn’t change how long a person sleeps. Night still happens, just at a different time.

It’s called having a life. You might or might now have heard of it.

“I was afraid you were going to say that. Let’s get to it, then.”

I make my way to the front of the train, gently pushing people aside who were in a panic or trying to calm their children down. What type of person would even think of hurting a child? They’re nothing but innocent, just like animals. With that thought in mind, I transform into a yellow canary as I continue pushing forward. I had a tremendous amount of room now, and I wasn’t anywhere near as big of a target, if I would even be considered one at all. I fly above people’s heads to reach the front and see who this despicable individual is.

“Potential for something I’m not interested in. I don’t have any money, and after my long travel I needed something to eat.” The first part is a lie, obviously, but I don’t want to get involved with anyone or anything that might get me in any trouble. “I’m sorry to have disappointed you, but this was a one-time deal for me.”

“I’m…Khalesia. Nice to meet you as well.” I’m obviously reluctant in providing any additional or unnecessary information to this woman, although I’m very curious as to why she has decided to strike up a conversation with me. If I was in trouble, I would have known by now. “I’m more of a wanderer, really, therefore I don’t stay in one location as I don’t have a reason to do so at the moment. My travels have led me to meet many interesting people and I’ve learned so much, it’s hard to top that.”

“This is ridiculous!” I get up and begin making my way to the front. I see Kat, and decide to ask her for a second opinion.

“What do you think is our best option at this moment? Do we get off the train or stay and fight?”

We’ll see if I find you staggering drunk on some alleyway later on.

With that nice little image in my head, I walk off to find what’s been going on in this town. On the way there, my stomach reminds me that I haven’t eaten in hours. To add to my dilemma, I did not have a single coin at my disposal. I suppose I could beg, but nobody would believe someone like me to be from the streets. Would I have to resort to stealing again? That would really damage my reputation since I know quite a bit of people here. But maybe a smaller shop would be easier, not as many people around to cause a big commotion.

With the new plan in mind, I go in the direction of a small bakery I’ve passed by before. They’ve always had great food, but who’s to say they don’t throw out a good portion at the end of the day? One loaf of bread won’t be missed that much. I turn the corner and spend a few more minutes walking, and it’s at that point that my destination comes into sight. There were racks of bread on either side of the shop, and I walk closer to see what the owner was doing. Luckily, he was distracted by a customer. After a quick look around, I grab a loaf and walk away very rapidly, turning at the first intersection I come across. It’s only then I breathe a sigh of relief and take a nice bite, scared at the thought that this new criminal hobby of mine was both exhilarating and rewarding.

Yes. They’re delicious.

Plus, I don’t know if it is related but since I started doing that I can’t really stand the taste of most soft drinks and I am picky about the brand of iced tea stores offer. Do you find it the same with lemonade?

I don’t regularly have soft drinks unless someone offers when I’m at their home. But all in all, it’s hard for me to down them.

I buy the powered lemonade packets. Forgot the brand, but the ingredients are few and it tastes like freshly made lemonade. You just mix it in a water bottle and boom, only 10 calories per drink. Much more better for you and it’ll satisfy that craving.

Samster is 100% correct. If you want to lose weight, the only method is eating less calories than what you’re burning. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stick to healthy foods only, but you have to watch the portion sizes. Additionally, muscle burns more calories than fat, so don’t forget your weight training and all that jazz.

I wasn’t fat in high school, but I was getting there thanks to my McDonald’s addiction. Now, just the smell alone makes me nauseated. If you cut out bad foods, you’ll crave them at first, but it goes away after some time. I can’t eat fast food or it makes me sick. Also, Cheetos and all those heavily processed snacks taste horrible to me since I’m used to eating real food.

Oh, and screw all those fad diets. They’re obviously just that…a fad. Stick to the basics and take a 30-min walk after a meal.

“Oh right, the wine!”

I reach in my bag, pulling out the bottle to examine how much is left. Judging by this alone, there appears to be less than half but just above a quarter left. It wouldn’t make sense for me to keep any of it at this point. Carrying around the bottle would be more of a nuisance than anything.

“Here, take all of it. I don’t think I’ll be drinking anytime soon.” I extend an arm to offer him the bottle. “Enjoy your time here and maybe I’ll see you around.”

“Already?” I look around, trying to recognize the area we were in. A minor headache had apparently occurred as a result of the wine, making everything a little bit worse. “Listen, Saul, what do I owe you? I don’t have any coins at my disposal but I can pay you back any other way.”

Except sex. I’m not going to let you have me.

I hop off the cart and hurry to put my jacket on as I take notice of the mist. “Or if this really is a gratuitous service than a million thanks to you.”

It’s noticeably colder as we go on our path, for some reason, so I curl into a ball and use my jacket to cover up as much as possible. The shift makes me a little more uncomfortable, but I was going to stay warm. I drift off into a dreamless sleep rather quickly with my rhythmic breathing being the only proof I was alive.

“Smart of you to abstain from drinking and then attempting to get us there safe and in one piece; I appreciate that.”

I make myself more comfortable than it is socially and/or culturally acceptable for a lady, and I immediately feel my eyelids grow heavy. Normally, I wouldn’t be anywhere near this tired this time of day, but wine always made me drowsy, for some reason.

“I’m afraid I’m going to fall asleep soon. I’m known to be a light sleeper so any sign of trouble stops you in your tracks and I’ll be up.”

Well, that peace and quiet didn’t last long. I remain on my seat and stare just like everyone else is doing at the moment. I’m not going to call any attention to myself, but I will be quick to act if things grow out of control. With part of the train missing, it’ll only be a matter of time before we have to take action.
