I found this very interesting article in The Straits Times today, and I decided it was topic worthy.

Just what is human rights? A quick trip to Wikipedia and I got this:

Human rights refer to the “basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled.”

So that means all humans have those basic rights. Or do they? If the rights of two people are mutually exclusive, then whose right is right?

Why are living being entitled ‘rights’? Is it because they have the capability to think? If that’s so, then why do animals have rights?

Also, I believe humans are not equal. Certainly, Bill Gates is worth a lot more than the tramp down the street. Shouldn’t then Bill Gates have more rights?

Then there is the problem I quoted. I agree with Walter Woon, rights are becoming religion. Everybody’s screaming about rights. But can a society where everyone has equal rights function?

I’ll start with this sub-topic: The freedom of speech.

Should freedom of speech mean that everyone can talk nonsense? Even if it’s nonsense?

A compromise would be to regulate freedom of speech, but who’s to say it won’t be abused? And wouldn’t regulation destroy the very meaning of freedom of speech?

This is the new score. Two rules to take notice of:

1. You cannot charge twice in a row.

2. You cannot kill people with magic. This means you can’t use the magic, period. One alternative strategy is to heal someone till their just over that health than spam magic, but as long as you’ll kill someone, no magic.

TheCrom, thunderstorm deals damage to EVERYONE, including you. So you just killed everybody and no one wins. Do you want to retract that move?

Either that, or I have to make a new game with a better balance.

Scratch that, I’ll just place a new rule saying you can’t kill with thunderstorm/fireball, to prevent spamming of magics.

1. Please type properly.

2. You’d die before you reach most other planets, the only difference is, you won’t have a clone to continue your life for you.

This is not effective, and if space travel is ineffective, colonizing planets would be pointless. If colonizing planets is made implausible, then all the current space crises cannot be solved (unless they start building skyscrapers all the way to the atmosphere :P etc.).

Even if the solve some of the problems, as the population grows, more space would be required, and there is only one logical route.

Or, you can tell me some other way space travel is plausibly effective.

Let’s not even talk space travel. If there’s a faster way between point A and point B, why would you not take it? Is it because your “soul” is not the same? Than wouldn’t every time you move somewhere else your soul would get left behind?

Your copy is the identical you. If you do not consider souls, then there is no reason why you cannot think of your clone as you.

If the original person wasn’t deleted, then I’d have some problems, but the example says is very clear, and I really think this is entirely plausible far out in the future.

It is quite true though. Deaths that don’t get published go unnoticed while “advertised” deaths often get a lot of attention, even if the scale is far less.
