Ah yes, my math thread. There is absolutely no reason a simple math question should garner 94 replies. Of these 94, only about a dozen were contributory. About 40 were ridiculous memery, and the rest were good old fashioned trolling/spam. I thought I reported posts in that thread multiple times, but they never seemed to get cleaned up. I’m not saying our moderation staff sucks, just that:

1) Our OT (not the whole of Kong, only Off-Topic) userbase sucks completely. This thread reminded me why I haven’t frequented that section of the forum in over 6 months. /b/ is a poison that has killed the internet. An occasional meme can be funny in a proper context, but 4 or 5 in every post, for all 3000 posts in your forum career is ridiculous! I know, I’ve committed (yes, it’s a crime now) a few memes before, but this is nuts. Every time science or numbers are even mentioned, we get a 1/0 O SHI-. That’s the first fad I want killed. I hate to say it, but OT is now worse than digg. Which gets worse by the day.

2) We need better moderation features. If aC’s reporting system could somehow be placed in a little red triangle next to every post, I think it could clean up things immensely. Also, we need more mods. We need to find somebody mature who is frequently on the OT forums. Unfortunately, very few names come to mind. unproductive and joshhh are at the top of my VERY short list.

So, a friend of mine did a myspace survey, about putting your iTunes on random and using the song titles to answer questions. He somehow managed to answer three of the questions with songs from Yellowcard’s Paper Walls. We then argued over messages about the odds of this happening. At first, we got some astronomically low numbers, like 2×10^-9. I later came up with 14. So the question is:

If the survey has 38 questions, my computer has 947 songs, and Paper Walls has 13 songs, what are the odds of three answers coming from Paper Walls?
