Topic: Off-topic / Who is worse? BMTH or Justin Bieber? (Or BrokeNCYDE or Blood on the dancefloor)

Wow, I sound really hostile in my above post. Whoops, not what I was going for. All I was trying to say is that BMTH just isn’t for everyone, and not liking the genre is no reason to say they are terrible.

If no one has heard of BMTH, listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kynUSL8fr_4

I couldn’t last 12 seconds before turning it off. Why do people enjoy that?

Considering the song has a 17 second white noise intro, I think you might want a re-listen. :P

Didn’t they claim to be more metal than Slayer?

I doubt that. Sources, man.

I want to defend BMTH, because I am a fan. However, I know that the internet is a closed-minded place where this is impossible. I mean, why can’t people listen to an entire song before making a judgement? I will try anyway.

Omg, really? BMTH is disgusting.

Trust me, I am NO justin Bieber fan, but he can at least SING a few notes(and not terribly off key either)…even if they sound pre-pubescent and his crap is generic pop nonsense. That other group was just screaming off key, I had to turn it off as soon as they began. I am a singer and just hearing someone SHRED their vocal cords like that makes my throat hurt. UGH.

Oli Sykes shredded them recording and touring their first album, had surgery, and took vocal lessons to avoid it in the future. It’s actually quite possible to scream like that without damaging your throat.

If metalcore is “your” genre of music, then odds are you would like BMTH. If not, then odds are EXTREMELY high you wouldn’t. It’s as simple as that.

I’m definitely not trying to bash you for liking A7X, but if you think they are the tightest band you’ve ever seen, you need to go to more shows and expand your horizons! The music they play is relatively simple compared to bands such as Minus the Bear that deal with complicated live looping and are still insanely tight.

Ooh, I go to a lot of shows haha. (I have never seen Minus The Bear, though I really really want to.) The only bands I have seen quite as tight as A7X, are The Dillinger Escape Plan and Alabaster Morgue. Honestly, I wasn’t an A7X fan until I saw them live, and I was SHOCKED at how good they were. There’s not a lot of bands with the balls to regularly play dueling solos, and even fewer with the talent to pull it off.

Though I will be the first to admit, my horizons can ALWAYS use expanding. So can everyone’s.

Granted, I haven’t seen A7X since 2004.

Yeah, they’ve grown up a lot since then: less core, more progressive.

Having seen Portnoy live with both Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold this summer, I have to say this didn’t surprise me much. It’s absolutely obvious which band he had more fun playing with. I wish him and Dream Theater the best either way.

PS: Say what you will about A7X’s fans, genre, and lead singer, there’s no denying that they are some incredibly talented musicians. And live, they are quite possibly the tightest (musically) band I have ever seen.

Umm, yes they are? 3rd wave fer sure.

no they aren’t have you even listened to their new album. no ska in there

Ok, so “Let The Dominoes Fall” has less ska than other influences. But “Up To No Good”, “I Ain’t Worried”, “Liberty And Freedom”, and “That’s Just The Way It Is Now” are all ska, and the others have a slight ska tinge to them. And there’s no way you can say most of “…And Out Come The Wolves” isn’t ska. At least, ska-punk. Sorry to offend.

Check out “The Hurricane”, “All colors crew” and “Tears”. You can download the album for free (and even use it, e.g. for videos)! ;)

Wow that is badass. I think I found some new favorite foreign shtuff. Haha

Streetlight Manifesto is probably my all time fave ska band. Other favorites include, kinda in descending order:
The Toasters
Star Fucking Hipsters
Leftover Crack
Choking Victim
Chase Long Beach
Reel Big Fish
Rancid
Left Alone
The Mighty Mighty BossTones
Catch-22 (Which is more or less the same band as Streetlight Manifesto anyways…)
The Specials
Goldfinger
Sublime/No Doubt/311 (I put them here because I like them, and they have ska elements in some songs, but not the majority.)

Yeah, sorry if I offend any old rudies, but I’m into the third wave. I just like my music a bit faster. Also, I haven’t included my local favorites, because that would be unfair to any non-Colorado residents. :D

If you’d like to check them out their best song is probably “Tears Of A Marianette”.

Holy crap that’s pretty epic! I’m not usually into slower, ambient stuff, but I’m digging this.

I used to be a total metal head, obsessed with Iron Maiden and Metallica. Lately, I rarely listen to most metal, unless it has some core elements. Weird.

People that claim they like “all” have actually heard few music styles. I dare any of those to name 20 different music genres without peeking at wikipedia.

Ska, Punk, Metal, Pop, Dance, Electronica, Rap, Country, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Hardcore, Alternative, Folk, R&B, Reggae, Soul, Experimental, and Funk. That’s 20, off the top of my head, without even getting into subgenres, obscurities, or fusions. Haha sorry to be such a smartass.

I seriously love at least something from every type of music. I like to consider myself a true music lover. I don’t believe in genres, rather in elements that certain artists are more likely to have than others. You name a genre of music, and as long at it’s not too horribly obscure, I can probably name an artist or at least a song I really dig. If not, I can find one.

Name me one for Psychadelic Death Metal.

Definitely pretty horribly obscure; I had to turn to Google. I’m not sure if the band Psychedelic Death Metal counts, but I kinda liked the song Illuminati. Oddly mesmerizing.

im all for random skanks but 24/7? you must be related to the energizer bunny…

I love Big D, but the rest of my rudie friends don’t. Sad. And I totally forgot to mention that my favorite ska band is Streetlight Manifesto. I’m totally embarrassed that I forgot that…

And not actually 24/7, but just skanking at any time of day, regardless of whoever is watching and whatnot.

Eh, they have a few ska-ish elements in some of their songs. But far from a legit ska band. Shit, I’m usually totally against genre-bitching. Haha

I seriously love me some third wave though. Toasters, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rancid, Reel Big Fish, Choking Victim, etc. But, if we HAVE to stick to Two-Tone, I like The Specials. Haha

My fave ska song of all time: The Toasters: Don’t Let The Bastards Grind You Down Sorry for the crappy sound quality; I couldn’t find anything better. D:

Does anybody else love to randomly skank 24/7?
