America is different from other countries. Individual states are different from each other. If your state/country has generally violent citizens, less gun control may be the better option. If your citizens aren’t that violent, there is less of a necessity for it. I think America is generally violent, which is why they need their guns.

However, this is not a unique topic. There are many others about guns and gun control.

America is not as violent as you have it pictured in your mind. We live a comfortable life with very little fear. This is not to say we don’t have crime, I’m sure we have as much crime as any other country. We do not resemble what other countries portrayed us to be. Our society is a generous society and peaceful unless provoked.

This country was formed through oppression and ultimately war. We distrust a strong central government whereas others are willing to allow a central government that holds all of the power over them. We demand to hold the power over any system of government we have and this is where the strife comes in during these debates. We bear arms to keep our governmental system honest. You can see why we are reluctant to allow that right be taken away by those who propose regulations to limit them.

@donsepttico and scoopalard

Technically, both of you gentlemen are correct. In a situation where an intruder has entered your home you only have a split second of time to make a decision. If the intruder is ordered to lay on the ground or leave and he doesn’t do so, he is then in danger according to castle doctrine laws. You have to give him that chance. If you determine he is armed, no verbal warning is required. You just don’t have time to issue that warning.

To use deadly force, you must be in fear of your or another’s safety. This can be fear of a physical attack or the fear of danger to your life. You cannot just use deadly force in any situation. Deadly force is a last resort to be used when all else fails.

There are gray areas in the laws and each state has it’s own laws that you need to learn. Federal laws do not intercede in state laws that cover a self defense situation. These laws are left up to the states to determine. As such, any discussion on these types of laws becomes convoluted and hard to debate.

When he got back to his base they released him to go back to the front lines. He had two strikes against him before he snapped.

He had also taken up sniper school before the brain injury.

A lot of people where he was stationed have been going home and killing their whole families.

It’s the con of throwing a person out of war after they just spent 18 months in a warzone.

I think he needs a psychic evaluation.

From what I understand he had four tours at the front lines. That is three to many

Because like everything else involving government, sales taxes would begin to rise until products would become too expensive to buy. Never trust a body of politicians with their hands in your pocket.

Topic: Serious Discussion / If you have children, will you raise them to choose their own religion?

Ma’am, you have a very dismal outlook for our country whereas I think it can be recovered and be as great as it once was. To do this we must stop the financial bleeding our representatives have bestowed upon us with all of the giveaway programs. We must stop being a nation of social programs and remove the stifling regulations we have enacted on small businesses. We must step back in time to a more simple era to sort of reboot.

I have raised children and I am very proud of them. They are productive members of society with families of their own. They have all had religious influence in their childhoods. They are not church goers now, but they have learned to care for others. They love their lives and children, whom they now allow to attend church with my wife. They are wonderful children and make me proud of them. They care for others, they don’t drink or smoke, nor do they do drugs. I nor their parents could not ask for more than that. If this is a bad thing I do not see it as such.

They are already supposed to be doing that. That is why we have three equal branches of government. I would like to see every politician in both houses of government and our current administration replaced in the next election cycle. It matters not which political party they are in, they all need to be replaced.

To be honest with you, I don’t think our congress, or any of the last several administrations, have really paid much attention as to whether or not their legislation follows the constitution. I think they consider it a roadblock to be pushed aside.

No it doesn’t. We didn’t ask those women to put these in their bodies and it is not our responsibility to pay to correct their horrid decisions. They should pay to remove them out of their own finances.

Our Constitution is fine if we would make our representatives abide by it.

Topic: Serious Discussion / How would you define a “Perfect Government” and is it achievable?

Ma’am, what you are suggesting (I have been reading your posts) is more or less a technological dictatorship making all of the decisions as to the citizens needs, whether or not they really want those particular needs fulfilled. Has it occurred to you people want to fulfill their own needs without outside involvement? Technology can be a useful tool, but can quickly become a liability. Your proposals, in my opinion, would be a liability. You would take all of the inventiveness of the human race from them. All of the little things that make humans happy to be alive would be reduced to what a computer decides they really need. I could not live in your almost perfect government.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Abortion

I hate to throw sand into this conversation, but I just can’t believe what I am reading. Sex is not all there is to life. I know, companies use it to sell cars or some other stupid product. You hear about it at school, girls try to be attractive by flaunting their best features (they hope), and everywhere you look it is sex, sex, sex. It’s no wonder our young people think it is the only thing life has to offer them. Well, grow up.

Our world didn’t get where it is today because scientists and researchers were preoccupied with sex. You women think it is all men, but let’s be clear, if you walk down the street with your butt hanging out or necklines that hide nothing, you are baiting the opposite sex. You are being obvious and you are advertising. You can call it what you want, but you are not innocent when you act like this.

Woman’s liberation was nothing but a farce. It was in the 1970s and it is now. I get so tired of hearing little groups crying equal rights about this or that. Again, grow up.

If all the people here can think about is sex, I feel sorry for you. It’s obvious you all need to either study or get a job as you have too much time on your hands.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Will you observe the silence?

Very few really understand the patriotism or honor these soldiers have shown. We don’t just honor the dead, but the living as well. These men and women have given of their lives and family to fight for our freedoms. They have ask nothing in return. They come home with not only physical wounds, but emotional wounds. They carry with them the horrors of war for the rest of their lives.

They don’t suffer alone, their families suffer with them. The wives keep the families together while our men are sent all over the world. They don’t complain, but suffer in silence. When they lose these heros, they carry on with keeping the families intact.

One day a year, we honor these brave souls…one day a year. And yet we have those who dishonor them with sarcastic remarks, disrespect, and ignorance of an untold level. For those who seem to enjoy our freedoms, yet disrespect our soldiers, I hold you in contempt. I would not spit on you if you were on fire. Yes, I am a veteran and I’m proud of it.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Racial Stereotypes, and Should They Matter

You want to know something? I don’t really care about Muslims. The people on here like to pretend they are special, but they are not. We claim it is a small faction of them that are killing people, but you know, it doesn’t matter, they all go by the same religion. This brings me to the conclusion, they are all pretty much alike. As stated above, racial profiling should be enacted at airports.

As far as black and white racism, I think blacks are more prejudice than the white communities. They are always bringing it up and always telling the whites how we owe them for something we were not involved in. They weren’t involved in the past either. Maybe it’s time to stop all of the crap and forget the past.

It doesn’t matter when the mind forms. This is just an arbitrary line imposed to make your arguments sound somewhat rational.

Topic: Serious Discussion / The Economic Crisis: Obama getting Re-Elected?

Not right now, with the present path our country is on. I have a feeling we are going to be a long time digging out of the mess this administration has put us in.

I would also like to know why your country is so jealous of America? Why do you wish to see America fail? We cannot just drop our standard of living without hurting the major portion of the worker class. Even though our unemployment is 9%, prices have kept rising. My area has seen several increases in food, gas, utilities, and other necessities of basic life. Yet, you seem thrilled at the prospect of destruction to our citizens, and still you wonder why this administration is going to lose the election.

Why should we get used to living a lower lifestyle? Many of us have worked hard all of our lives to get where we are and all of a sudden and administration comes along and takes everything we have earned. Then we are told to get used to it?

You must be a foreigner, because they are always hoping America will fall. You will show us. You will drag is down for punishment to show us uppity Americans.

@Stiltonchees

From what I understand she was steeling music from the internet. This was the second time she did this after being warned not to. She got what she deserved. Also, if you really know what you are debating, this happened seven years ago. Nothing will be done because of the statue of limitations and you fellas are debating over a moot point.

What the pro-abortionists don’t seem to understand is the backlash that is building. Mississippi just missed passing an anti-abortion bill that not only would ban abortion, but many contraceptives. Last year, my state had the same type of bill up for a vote and it just missed passing.

Abortion was never intended to be used as a contraceptive, but it has and is being abused by near-sighted people who think killing a life is A-ok. Keep up with this train of thought because it will come home to roost and will set women back many years. Citizens are getting tired of your rhetoric and the tide is beginning to turn.

That is so petty. Why should the rich give you anything? Go out and earn your own money. Your leg ain’t broke, is it?

Let me give you a few realities. Most rich people have been bankrupt three times before they made it. Many wealthy don’t have higher education, but used their available resources to climb to the top. Everything men have built in America has been designed and/or built by people just like us. Most of the innovative ideas come from people like us. For instance, Apple Computers was started by to young men in their garage. We all have the ability to make it, maybe not to the top, but far enough to live comfortably. It is up to us to make that happen, through our own sweat, not by handouts.
