Topic: Game Programming / [AS3] Drawing Arrows

The line-drawing method works if you want an arrowhead made up of two lines, but if you want this kind of thing, you’ll have to use a movie clip:

Topic: Kongregate Labs / Unity Contest - Update game version ?

I asked support about this earlier, and they said it would be fine to update your game as long as you’re only fixing bugs and changing small things. A complete overhaul would probably get you disqualified, though. Ultimately, it’s up to them whether or not something is worth a disqualification, so use your discretion.

The jetpack does go up as far as I know. Does it not work for you?
Configurable controls will be in eventually – we’ll probably add it as a patch.

For what it’s worth, canpbubs and I spent a long time polishing the gameplay for Drillboid, just as much as we did the graphics. Some people really seem to enjoy the gameplay, too, so I guess it’s just not for some. That’s fine by us, just let us know what you’d like to see improved!

It’s not a primitive-building system, no. It’s programming in either JavaScript or C#. Having worked with Flash, I’d say it’s very similar, but you have a third dimension, more complicated physics, 3D modelling, texturing and animating to deal with.

Keep in mind that most of the Unity games on Kongregate were entirely designed and created in the 2 months that the contest has been running. It’s not necessarily that we don’t want interesting mechanics, but it’s not easy to get as much content as we’d like into 3D game in such a short amount of time.

Once the submission deadline is up, though, is it still okay to add things to the game?

Topic: Game Programming / Newb Question: Copyrighted Music?

Legally, in most countries, using music without explicit permission from the creator (unless it’s under a Creative Commons license of some kind) is illegal. There are some specific reasons that you’re allowed to use music, such as in parody, but the grounds for that are very shaky. Simply put, putting a song in your Flash game that somebody hasn’t told you specifically that you can use is illegal.
Now, that said, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to do anything about it. Most of the time, they don’t. Just keep in mind that if the owner of the music does press legal charges, or simply requests that the game be taken down, you’ll have to go along with it. Also, as far as the Kongregate FAQ is concerned, it’s against the rules:
“Most importantly, uploaded games (including all components of games, such as audio) must be your original work or work you have permission to upload from the owner. Kongregate has absolutely no tolerance for uploading stolen content. Violators of this policy will automatically receive a one-week ban without warning on the first offense, and a permanent ban on the second.”
