Topic: Collaborations / I need isometric pixel art tiles

Hi,

I need an artist for a game collaboration, I need isometric tiles in pixel art. The game is about building cooperatively a large machine, so the tiles should be conveyor belts, presses, sort of an automatic production line.

I can pay a little or would like to do profit sharing.
Anyone skilled and interested?

Topic: Collaborations / pixel sculptor for retro style game needed

Hi,

remember the 8Bit games, I have a very nice idea, and already pretty good working draft for an iPad game. But I need someone to work over the graphics I already have.
In the end I need about 64 32×32pixel pngs that are all the “tiles” necessary. Most of them are only rotations of others.

Anyone interested mail ahintze@mac.com

Topic: Collaborations / Assistant designers, concept artists or scripters for top-down sandbox shooter game needed! Anyone interested?

Hi,

sounds interesting, a little like blockhead… but the aliens and the storry give it a different touch. I guess I would like to contribute. I am good in AI, but also in storry development.
Let me know :)

Topic: General Gaming / is it just me, or are there way more crappy games than usual?

Well the title tells all.

I was just wondering… maybe it is me but I have the impression that there are 95% crappy submission right now, and once in a while a cool one. A couple of month ago it was way less…

Topic: General Gaming / How to make a 5/5 game, the Kongregate way.

I would describe it like this:
A good game is boring but nobody recognises it.

And a good game is easy enough that you can play it a while and becomes mildly harder, jut so that the learning curve follows that.

And sorry to say it that way: Most players are stupid. So if you make a puzzle, make it as easy as possible, than everybody can play it. For me it is still a ridle why chess is so popular. I mean I love it, but I am a nerd/freak/smart guy. And most people don’t like it or are very bad at it.

And the most important thing: sometimes even shit sells, think about bejeweled, the game mechanic is so primitive it hurts, and still I like it, and still I think “why wasn’t this my idea?”

Topic: Kongregate / Suggestions

for the game entangled I am again asked to make badges, so I thought about the following: How about a feedback button next to the game, that says: Needs Badges.
I guess normally badges are decided by hits, but one could also base that descision in this “needs badges” button?

Topic: Game Programming / Protect against Cheat Engine

Instead of dispersing the number to protect everywhere, why not distribute the bits everywhere. So bit 1 in array0 first position and bit 2 in array2 second position and so forth…

Topic: General Gaming / Does anyone else hates TD games?

Hi,

I see so many TD games around, and all of them are more or less a stirrup of all the other TDs around. I mean changing the graphics doesn’t change the game. Maybe the first two or three TD games I have seen were nice. But now there are so many, and it doesn’t even get better. I have seen essentially no good idea, except maybe air units that don’t follow the path, but thats it….

Post here what you don’t like about them, and maybe what you would like to see in a TD, that no one ever thought of…

Do you have something that sounds very much like tetris?

Indeed it was fixed.

But you could only get to levels that you already reched plus 1. So it wasn’t that bad…

What is so strange is that the variety of opinions reaches from: too simple to insanely hard

Why is that?
Would tetris have the same variety?

Topic: General Gaming / loops of zen

funny,

a strategy for this game appears somewhat overkill. Especially since the game has definitely more zen character than being really challenging. And the funniest thing from my perspective about it is, that I always start level 1 and let myself drift until level 12 or 16 or until I am bored or until more pressing things demand my attention. I never invented it to be a real mind bender, but so many people demanded badges, so one of the admins added one. And I really appreciate that.

Anyway, I guess you just have to play it enough to develop something like heuristics or good intuition. I try to find situations that have only one option like corners or tiles at the border or close to pluses (or how ever you call the intersection like tile). But the next thing is that sometimes the context also defines how to put tiles. If they are already used somewhere else you force other tiles into the right position. But that is more a matter of experience than a deep analysis of the situation.

I witness my wife (total addict of the game) to end up with two open ends (happens mostly after level 30) like JudasInc mentions under point 6. And what you do need to do now is, what I call massage the ends together. And mostly you can use T-tiles (the little birds) for that. I don’t know why, but they work best. And always remember there is always one solution, but most of the times there are more. And levels above 30 have even more solutions.
Again this massage thing becomes totally easy after lots of plays. And my wife looks at me like I am a wizard when I close two ends that are in the top left and down right corner with minimal clicks… but indeed that takes time.

For me the game has more to do with taking a run in the park, where I can let my mind go, and think about other stuff. Hence the “zen” title.

One word for all those having difficulties to click the correct tile: You click before you moved the mouse, relax! There is a reason why there is no time limit, and you can return to each already solved level.

I was wondering, if I should release a timed mode as well? Or if I should make the puzzles even harder?

Cheers, and thank you all for your appreciation, Arend

Topic: General Gaming / loops of zen improvements

Hi all,

I read all your comments on Loops of Zen, thank you so much for the support and the great feedback. Right now I am thinking about improvements. Not so much graphic, but gameplay.

So besided the very adictve character, what would you like to see to play it again? Or what features would you think are cool?
Or any ideas for more difficult puzzles. Or how to make easier ones?

I personally always start with level 1 and drift along the levels, until I remember that I have more pressing things to do.

Topic: Collaborations / Looking for someone to write "Darwin's Disks"

Yeah a colleague of mine works on 3D critters and evolution, the problem is that the sims stuff is insanely CPU and GPU intensive and nothing for flash,

If you have problems with “parameters” and such… we do evolution for our living (so to speak) and creating an evolvable world is always hard, but we have lots of experience.

Well,

I am working on alife and evolution (google Arend Hintze) and we are looking for an educational game that teaches evolution, or lets you play with it. So when you have your head free, and we see how well darwin disk get accepted, we might get a new idea,

Hi,

I guess your post is rather old, but anyway. I would like to do such stuff. I am a scientist myself, so if I end up on the puplication, I would do it. Or any other idea you have. I work on computational biology so go ahead:

Topic: Collaborations / Looking for someone to write "Darwin's Disks"

Actually a very cool idea,

I am thinking back and forth about a game including evolution. And I mean evolution and not the stuff that Civilisation or other games like that emulate. I was wondering if one can turn the logic of this game upside down. The player controlles the organisms and can change parameters and plays against an evolving opponent of some sort. Just a question, but maybe you had some ideas about that?

Topic: Game Programming / [Kongregate API] High Scores

Sorry, I guess this is a stupid question, but do I need to download something like an include file or a library to use the API, or do I just put the mentioned code in my program, upload, and everything is peachy?
