Any reason you skipped over me in that town/scum player analysis? (which btw was well thought out)

Since it seems that occooa still hasn’t read back through the thread properly to justify her vote, and no one’s explained the “obvious flaws”, here you go: Darkboy is confirmed Lady with the Pumpkin Lamp – a town alignment. It’s been confirmed. Why would you vote him/her? (Sorry btw I’m not up to scratch with people’s genders)

I apologise, I’ve had a lot of exams recently and I haven’t been as active as some people. Here’re my answers to the RQS.

1. Are you willing to be active in this game if discussion actually begins and will you try to encourage it?

I’m willing yes, but as of late, that actually happening is yet to be seen. I’ll try to be as active as I can from now on.

2. Anyone you find more/less ‘strange’ than the others?

The question was intended for earlier in the game, but I suppose after reading everything that’s happened recently, urFEAR is acting strangest at the moment. The rambling and nonsensicalness of his/her post makes me suspicious out of anything else here. FoS urFEAR.
A teeny tiny eeny weeny FoS on BC because his logic against me (even though he’s not voting for me, and he only had some sort of small FoS against me as well) was flawed.

3. Any strategies you think we should follow with the game setup?

I like to play mafias but it’s not necessarily often I do. Usually I just roll with whatever strategy is on offer and never bother to consider them. Therefore I have no idea. Just rolling with it now, honestly.

4. Anything peculiar you noticed about the game setup?

It’s already been said a lot but the 25% bulletproof townies is peculiar.

5. Would you rather NL on D1 or lynch?

I’d rather lynch. Letting the mafia start ahead is a bad idea. The discussions and inevitably the votes that will lynch someone on D1 can always help in trying to read the mafias’ actions and also who they may be.

If I had to go with a vote it would be urFEAR, but I’d like to see what he/she says in response to the votes against him/her. By the looks of it, urFEAR is most likely going to be voted off anyway so I won’t be voting for now.

Hello, I’m taking my place as an official lurking elder of FGF, as my G-Mod addiction along with school is beginning to take its toll.

So….many….tests….save me……OH DEAR LORD THE HOMEWORK…..

[in order to be an elder you must first be older than twelve sry]

Knoob! I hadn’t even noticed you’re over twelve centuries old!

Sorry for forgetting your 1200th birthday. Happy Belated Birthday, Knoob!

I think you’re all forgetting who the REAL FGF elder is, heheh (dat pun).

[Is it Lorcrux with an r or just Locrux?]

Accalia Willoughby

“Markus!” I shout in surprise, but by the time I’ve looked around, both Brook and Lorcrux are gone too. Now we don’t even have a leader. I look up through the canopies of the trees, and spot another five huge wasps. Their buzzing drew my attention to them. Dammit – I really hoped we were done with them…

I shove someone beside me.
“Do not just stand there gawking like goldfish!” I shout at the group. “One of thee – follow them haste! I shalt fend off these beasts.”
I pull the crossbow off my shoulder and load it. The wasps nearly got me last time. This time, I promise myself that won’t happen.

Topic: Forum Games / Logicathon: The Competition (Round 11)

Alright, I’m out, but lemme just say this:

The word “accurately” really threw me. I thought it meant “if there is a possibility that those are not the three top dogs then you are incorrect”. Also “could” does not necessarily imply it doesn’t have to work 100% of the time. I thought that “could” meant “have the ability to”. That’s why my answer was 11.

The way I did it was (assuming the 25 dogs are named A through to Y):

1. Race the first five dogs (A through to E). Get the fastest three of these. Let’s say A came first, B came second and C came third. The other two don’t matter, and D and E are eliminated. They cannot possibly be the fastest three dogs.

2. Take the winners from last round (A, B, C) and race all three of them with two new dogs (in this case it will be F and G). Take the winners of this round and eliminate the other two, as done in the previous round.

3. Continue on like this, taking the top three dogs from each race and sending them to the next race. By the time you get to the last match (let’s say it’s A, B, C, X, and Y), the three winners of this round will be the fastest three dogs with no exception.

I believe that if you do this the correct number of times, the minimum amount of races is 11.

Now I also saw this link before and had a look at it. I don’t quite understand it, but if it’s correct that the answer is 7, then okay. I’m out anyway.

But here’s another thing: what are you even thinking when you say “it doesn’t have to work 100% of the time”? Of course it does to accurately find the answer, as the question asked. If this is the logic then I can just say “well I guessed three dogs and had to race them 0 times!” Is it not the same that it works, but not 100% of the time? In fact it works a very small percentage of the time, but hey, it works. This has been said before but not having it work all the time is not fair and entirely incorrect.

On the other hand, I enjoyed playing this game, and I think it worked successfully enough. Thanks spike. :)

Unvote occooa.

I will always consider a random vote better than no vote. We can read what the mafia are thinking if we see their NK after we’ve already discussed and voted. Otherwise we may have no idea what the intent was behind their NK, which would leave the town on a step behind.

RNG vote occooa to start a discussion. We sorta need something to happen.

I think I’ve figured out the answer but I don’t wish to share it. A helpful hint though would be to think of the three dogs as one. You need to find the three fastest dogs, but not necessarily separately.

EDIT: Host, do we have to provide the method of finding the fastest three dogs or just the minimum number of races?

I look over the tops of the trees, spying the gleam of the red beam of light coming out from the middle of the forest. Do we even know what it is? And why are we going? I understand that this land needs me, and I now put my trust in Markus and these others, but I’ve never ceased to have been surprised.

I notice the look of uneasiness on the other woman’s face. I really have to stop calling her the “other woman.”

“Hey,” I say. She turns to me. “All these other men are shaking in their boots and wilt probably be shaking in their crypts too. We art all scared. The name’s Accalia.” And with that I hold out my hand. She responds (though idk how coz I’m not her, lol).

There’s an eerie silence despite the creepy buzzing coming from the jungle. Nobody wants to make the first move; to break the silence. I speak up.

“Here is thy chance to shine, Mr Reyes,” I exclaim as a give the self-righteous man a quick shove towards the entrance. “Lead the way!”

“Take all the villagers you can find and try to protect them,” he says. I nod. I’m surprised at myself that I didn’t think of that sooner.

Most of the villagers are already gather by a relatively sturdy looking house. I rush past them. Some of them have pitchforks and whatnot – petty substitutes for real weapons, but they’ll have to make do with what they’ve got for now. There are people still scattered around the village left defenceless. I hear their screams. These are the people who really need saving. And I’m sure the real fighters could stop an attack on the gathered villagers if the situation became critical.

I run past a burning house; the other woman I shared my room with last night leads two children away from it. Good. One house checked. A small marketplace is next.

The marketplace is swarmed by leeches and beetles. There is one wasp but no other sign of a flying insect. I search the crowd quickly. Four male civilians behind the bench in the corner. A man and a woman – the woman a Peace Corporal – pressed up against a stone wall, trying not to be noticed. A man and his teenage son defending their armour stand with what looks to be two measly spears. That’s eight. I see no others.

I load an arrow and fire at the leech slowly and steadily approaching the armour stand. It goes straight through its soft skin and into its head. The father and son turn quickly to look at me, then back at the leech, still approaching them. I load and fire another arrow, nearly hitting the leech in the same place. It makes a small gurgling sound and falls, dead. I beckon to the man and his son. They sneak over, half crouched. The other villagers have noticed me as well, but I signal for them not to move. Two beetles are crashing through the market stands, destroying many of the supplies and goods, and the wasp still hovers around the area, seemingly looking for people it saw before. It would be dangerous for the civilians to move and attract attention.

“Go back to Longthorn Inn. Thy villagers are gathered.” I say in a quiet voice. The man nods and leads his son away quietly. I head slowly through the market stands, towards the four males cowered behind the bench. A beetle notices me, and comes charging, which ultimately attracts the attention of both the other beetle and the wasp.

“Get back to Longthorn Inn!” I shout out, announcing to everyone here. The insects are distracted by me, and the villagers make a move through the street. I watch them leave quickly, which was a bad move. The beetle that first charged comes crashing through a fruit stand between us. Fruit goes flying, and I’m hit by high-speed planks of wood flying through the air. I go crashing down on another stand – a clothmaker’s stand thankfully. The fall is relatively soft, but the impact still hurts.

Both beetles are less than a metre away from me, trying to push through the pieces of the broken fruit stand that separate me from them. I push back with all my might. Then the wasp comes crashing down over my head, narrowly missing me. It surprises me, and I weaken my hold against the wooden boards. The beetles push through, and I scramble back frantically. The wasp has flown into the air, about to dive in a second time. I can’t let that happen. I crawl over the cloth stand and load and arrow quickly before the beetles come crashing into me. I aim at the wasp, which is diving at me again, but am taken off my feet by the cloth stand flying into me. Those beetles’ market ruining spree is starting to get annoying.

One of the beetles climbs over the cloth stand and roars. Strange. I never knew beetles roared. It rises on his back feet, preparing to use its front feet to stomp on me as I’m sprawled on the dirt. I exhaust my arrow by shooting at its exposed underside. The bolt goes up through the bottom of its jaw and into its brain. The beetle nearly collapses on me, killed. The wasp is put off by the dead beetle’s large protective shell, and quite literally bounces off it. Once again it rises into the air, preparing to attack again. I use this time to get out of there. The villagers I came here for are safe – now I need to leave, and quickly. I dash along the street, leaving the wasp and the beetle behind me.

[Sorry, that was a whole lot of mostly combat text.]

While lying sprawled on the ground, I quickly reload my crossbow as the hornet reorients itself. It buzzes several metres from me, but I made it out from underneath it okay. The next thing I know the arrow is in the barrel, and I fire once more at the hornet’s head. Not making any sudden moves, this time the arrow flies straight through the hornet’s eye, squirting blue-green blood profusely. The hornet flails around violently from the impact, lands on it’s back on the ground nearby and flicks its legs. It isn’t dead, surprisingly, but it won’t be doing damage to anything else anytime soon.

The village around me is in chaos. More of the members that were seated around the table last night have also come out of their rooms, fighting off the insects as well. As I watch, a beetle smashes through the inn wall. Pity. I did like Mr Eurice, and had hoped to save his inn for him. The older man with the strange scars is in the room the beetle crashed through, and he seems to handle it alright.

Then I see the most ridiculous sight. The idiot from last night – the rowdy one who wouldn’t shut up about his god damn horse – Andre Reyes or something. Fighting off a hornet, he’s managed to get his sword stuck, and the hornet has flown off with him still holding on. The hornet carries him above the inn, already rising to at least fifteen meters, and yet Andre still hangs on. I suppose he needs help.

I reload my crossbow and aim high in the sky. I watch the hornet’s track, heading east towards the rising sun, whilst also gaining height itself. These come to mind when I aim towards the future course of the giant insect. I fire.

The arrow pierces through both the hornet’s wing and into its abdomen, very close to where Andre has his sword held in. He looks at the arrow in surprise. I almost forgot… I could have killed him. Oh well. The beast tries to continue flying, but struggles. One life saved.

I was kinda angry since they were doing that, which is why I spread a wrong answer last round.

It’s just part of the game that there’s a discussion of sorts. I realise that because of the competition factor, it isn’t necessarily brilliant to be spreading the right answer, but nor is there a rule against it. And if you’ll notice, quite a number of people have already lost 1 life. I can promise you that by the time there are around 5 people left we won’t be sharing answers that are correct for sure.

Okay look if person #1 shakes hands with everyone else in the room, they’ll be shaking 39 hands.

39

If person #2 then shakes everyone’s hands in the room, he will be shaking hands with 38 new people, because he already shook hands with person #1 when he came round.

39 + 38

If person #3 then shakes everyone’s hands, there will be 37 handshakes because he has already shaken hands with both person #1 and person #2.

39 + 38 + 37 …

And so on. It will keep going all the way up to person #39 who only has to shake person #40’s hand, and then person #40 doesn’t have to shake anyone’s hand.

I believe this answer comes to 780.

Then person #1, say (it doesn’t matter which person), shakes 22 people’s hands before dying.

780 + 22

Now that there are only 39 people in the room, the first person to shake hands will shake 38 hands now. It will continue on the same pattern as it did before, but it does not start on 39 and therefore we can simply take the answer we had before and subtract 39.

780 + 22 + (780 – 39)

Correct me if I’m wrong but the answer adds up to 1543.
