Topic: CS Portable / DDoS Attack on CSP Log In Server

There seems to have been a distributed denial-of-services (DDoS) attack on our server throughout this weekend which has caused some problems with logging into CSP. Most of the time logging in works, but occasionally it won’t work for a short while. If you are experiencing problems with logging in, try refreshing the page until you’re able to log in again.

This problem only affects the logging in of CSP and not the actual gameplay. Gameplay should be working as expected.

We’re looking into the issue and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience.

Topic: CS Portable / Critical Strike Portable ESL Kick Off Cup Returns!

stickcrusher543: The amount of teams is not limited and how many teams there will be depends on how many sign up.

DavidL109:
1. Do you need to be within a certain ping range to be allowed to play, e.g. under 200 ping?

No, there are no restrictions. This might change if we see it being an issue.

2. If both teams are lacking sufficient players will both teams will both teams be disqualified or will the match be postponed?

Matches should be played 5on5, but can also be played 4on5. For details check Rule 4.2 (http://play.eslgaming.com/criticalstrike/europe/open/5on5-kick-off-cup-1-web/rules). Number of players. If a team is lacking the sufficient amount of players to start the match they will be disqualified. Matches can’t be postponed as this would delay matches of the next round and therefore delay the whole cup.

3. Are there any weapon requirements or restrictions, e.g. only 1 AWP allowed per team?

No.

4. How are draws (2+ players killing each other causing the round to end) counted?

Draws won’t be counted and these rounds have to be replayed.

5. Will there be a certain amount of money set during the beginning of the round, e.g. 800?

There won’t be any money limitations.

6. If the timer runs out and players from both teams are still alive will it be counted as a CT win, T win, or a draw?

This will be counted as a T win, as both teams have to play each sides this won’t be to anyones disadvantage.

7. How many matches/rounds (won) until teams switch sides/ one team wins?

The matches will be played max rounds 15, sides will be switched after 15 rounds. The first team with 16 win rounds wins the match.

8. How will hacking accusations be dealt with? Screenshots? Demos?

Hacking accusations will be dealt with screenshots.

9. Will there be a need to screenshot your screen right before and after the tournament starts to ensure that there’s no hacking?

Every player will have to take a screenshot at the end of the game and upload it to the match sheet.

10. Any rest breaks, timeouts, player switching/substituting between rounds?

The cup timeframe allows for a few minutes of break between matches. Players can be switched after each match.

11. Will the scores be made public, e.g. * AlB * win over zPuRe, 16-3? ;)

Scores need to be entered in the match sheet by players. Winners will also be highlighted in the cup bracket.

12. Are spectators that are not registered in either two competing clans allowed to watch other than admins?

Spectator mode will be enabled and people will be able to follow the matches.

13. Will there be an official person recording all the matches and a channel to view the matches? Livestream?

This is currently not planned.

I hope that answered your questions! :)

Topic: CS Portable / CSP Sequel update and more!

Hello Critical Strike Portable players!

You all have probably noticed that we have been putting out smaller updates for Critical Strike Portable recently. We’ve also answered a lot of your messages with requests for more content by saying that we are “looking into first improving the existing experience of CSP before adding new content”.

Well, the main reason for this is the fact that we want to take CSP to the next level and make it grow into the amazing game we believe it can be for you, our passionate community that deserves the best possible fps experience. For the last 3 months we’ve been hard at work on both the future of our company by expanding our team, but also on our plans for a sequel to CSP. We invite you to have a look at a few more examples of the progress we’ve made so far over here:
http://criticalstrikeportable.com/news/post/new-forum-layout-and-sneak-preview-of-the-csp-sequel

The other thing that has been keeping us busy is finishing our second game Company of Tanks. You can watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHOrqBnJc4c

It’s fast a paced 3D tank shooter game that brings the first competitive real-time online multiplayer experience to Windows Phone 8 and Google Play. You control a WWII era tank and battle online against other players in colorful and stylized environments. It’s free so go give it a try!

Thank you for your continued support of CSP! We look forward to showing you more cool stuff soon!

Best Regards,

The Critical Force Entertainment Team

Topic: CS Portable / Official announcement regarding the future of Critical Strike Portable

Oh wow! We didn’t expect this kind of awesome useful feedback, thanks!

Many of the old issues with CSP came from the fact that the game’s code is two years old and not as structured as it could be. We’re starting completely from scratch, making sure that weapon values are not only balanced, but much easier to adjust from the developers perspective.

As for the screenshot, that’s still work in progress and most of the HUD icons are just simple placeholder items while we further develop the game. After all, what you see is still work in progress ;).

We’ll be trying to blog more actively about what we are doing once we can share more. For now, we also have to kind of be careful in regards to competitors.

CSP has become quite a popular game after all and there’s been many people who have tried to exploit our game, name and userbase.

We’ll make sure to keep you guys posted on what we’re up to more. Especially now that we know how much you all care :D!

@elfenlars – Good points. To be frank, the walling issue is very deeply nested in the game’s earliest code and makes it one of the toughest things to fix for us. I made a note of it to discuss it with our CTO one more time. As for the loading times, we’ve tested that matter and it seems only a very small percentage of our users are experiencing this. Do you still know exactly at what time/date the loading time increased? We might then be able to pinpoint it to a specific update of the game.

Thank you for sharing! Suggestions are always welcome, but we invite you guys to join us on our Facebook and Twitter pages where the rest of our global audience is also communicating with us.

@DeathCSP – We’re glad to be here!
@india2 – Thanks, we’re happy with Ben as well :)

Topic: CS Portable / Official announcement regarding the future of Critical Strike Portable

Hey David!

Vlad Micu here, head of studio here at Critical Force Entertainment (http://nl.linkedin.com/in/vmicu). I’m going to use our company’s new Kongregate account to respond to you directly. First of all thanks for the extensive post. Really appreciate your feedback here, because this is super valuable to us.

Second of all, here are some answers to your points:
1. Pretty much the first half of your post is about guns. I can be quite concise on that: CSP was never designed with a proper method of balancing the capabilities of all guns. I’m sure you agree that your story can be summed up by the simple sentence “each gun added was overpowered and never properly balanced, followed by another gun that was overpowered again.” We’re taking this lesson with us for sure, but I’ll have a quick talk with the team what we can do to balance weapons as fast as possible. I don’t like the AWP either.

2. Your second point about the games performance is pretty spot on as well. This game is, as you said, two years old and mainly created by one programmer in its initial stage. On behalf of our entire team, I can tell you that Igor was an incredibly talented programmer but also was not a team player. Having other programmers look at his code was a huge challenge and trying to fix some of his earlier work on the game is incredibly time consuming.

3. Hackers and cheaters are a direct result of this game having become incredibly popular, but because CSP grew faster than it monetized, the team responsible for it never had the proper resources to adequately address these matters or expand to spread the workload more efficiently. We now finally have the bandwith to do proper research on the matter of cheaters/hackers and have found that older versions of the game are one main source of people manipulating the game. The plan to kill multiplayer support to all of those outdated versions is already in place and will be executed shortly.

4. Those experienced and pro players that you mention have a good point. We’ve spent the last five months assessing the state of CSP and have concluded that fixing the problems we have inside the game would take more time and effort than actually starting from scratch. I can’t make any official statements yet, but with the announcement of having a brand new team in our office I’m sure you can guess what that could be. Oops, what’s this? – https://www.dropbox.com/s/rxqtlkn2gt5day7/CSPSequelInprogressScreenshot.jpg

5. We’ve spent a lot of time doing research about our users and the game. We have noticed the same thing, the hardcore audience slowly dying and a steady flux of new players stil giving the game a shot. It’s heartbreaking to finally start with actively reaching out to our community to talk to them and realizing that we reached out far too late. Then again, maybe it’s not too late to still try?

I really appreciate the time and effort you took to write your post and want to offer an equally elaborate response.

CSP might be old, but its spirit has just started getting the treatment it has always deserved.

Best regards,

Vlad Micu

True, but some changes are inevitable. We understand that you might not like some of the decisions we make, but a lot of players do. If you were part of the early days of the original Counter Strike, you would’ve experienced the same thing. It happens with every game out there :).

Topic: CS Portable / Official announcement regarding the future of Critical Strike Portable

Dear Critical Strike Portable players,

By now, we are sure many of you have heard that Igor Levochkin, the original programmer of Critical Strike Portable, has left our team here at Critical Force Entertainment. We parted ways with him on good terms, and the reason being that he had lost interest and felt heavily demotivated to continue his work on Critical Strike Portable. Igor had already spent a lot of his free time creating his new game Track Racing Online under his Kongregate account Soulkey, which has no association with Critical Force Entertainment. He has worked on CSP with us for almost two years, and we’re thankful for all of the hard work he has put into making the game what it is today. Sadly, the game is never finished and we are right now focusing on mostly fixing bugs, tackling cheaters/hackers and improving what we can make your experience as great as possible.

During the last six months, we’ve had a tough time communicating not only Igor’s departure, but many of the changes that both our studio and games are going through. One of the changes is trying to create our own social media channels and website to offer better support to our community and a better experience for our players. We also have many exciting announcements in the next couple of months, but for those who have been eagerly awaiting new updates: Please be patient, we’ll ship them when they’re ready.

We will keep on developing Critical Strike Portable and bringing new content to you. One step in making sure that we can make the game a better and more enjoyable experience, is bringing in Ben Kleber to the team as our new Creative Director here at Critical Force Entertainment (http://criticalstrikeportable.com/news/post/new-creative-director-joins-our-team-on-csp). For the past 6 years Ben has worked as a level designer and 3D artist on Tactical Intervention together with Minh “Gooseman” Le, the original creator of Counter Strike, and Ben has over 15 years of level design experience. His knowledge and expertise will help us take CSP, and our future titles, to the next level!

Best regards,

The Critical Force Entertainment team

Russian version of the announcement
=======
