Topic: General Gaming / [GemCraft chapter 0] Base XP for Pylon Levels?

Originally posted by Lurlock:

With pylon lvls being a exception, the only way to beat a level is to kill every single monster. Level with higher base exp → stronger monsters, more waves, thus a harder level.*
*didn’t check for every single level but i’m sure that the monsters in the 2-3K base exp range are way stronger then the ones in the 500-1000 exp range.

Topic: General Gaming / [GemCraft chapter 0] When is Ritual worth it?

With “initial pool size” they mean the pool you have when you start the level.
Ritual/focus increase your initial mana pool, and thus also the mana gain / extend.

Speaking too early without testing out all game modes.

4TH MAP I AM ON BEATING THIS GAME AFTER WAVE 225 ITS AUTO.

I somewhat agree with this – i haven’t tested the new limit yet but on 3.3bil i usually was able to go afk around wave 80. New limit should only make this higher – most of the waves will still be auto.

Personally, i use a O/L trap with a C/L behind it. It may be less mana effecient at the start (haven’t done maths) but it allows you to keep the cyan as low as needed – no point in taking it up to several 1000%. By placing the C/L behind your O/L it also stuns the monsters directly above you mana stealing gem.

After 225 waves and if not monsters are getting past the traps go to sleep or go do something else. It will take around 1 hour to finish.

If you put something heavy on the “N” key it will take only 10 min for 1000 waves.

Okay, turns out you can actually get 4 lines. Not sure where the cut-off is. I just played the first map (G13) with Quadruple, Tenfold HP, Giants Only, +20 waves*, and all of the check-boxes except for “Monsters Get Tougher Quicker” (that one was a bit beyond me when combined with everything else), and got a 74.6×. I’m guessing it’s at 20x? It’d probably be quite difficult on most levels, but on that map it’s a piece of cake. Anyhow, I think it’s fairly safe to say that you can’t get MORE than 4 lines.

Yea, 4 lines at 20x

Highest multiplier i got is 14,127x – still 4 lines :P (beating endurance on hardest settings with all amulets, it’s still possible to get even higher though)

Yes, “Shadows killed”(nr.64) is a stat too
The other 2 are premium-only, “Battles won with giant monsters only”(nr.57) and “Battles won with tenfold monsters hit points”(nr.58)

I’m pretty sure a shadow appears in the 4th pylon level (just replayed it but didn’t meet another one :<) just played again, DID get a shadow… maybe it’s related to the number of waves that you got or so

5x-9.9x base multiplier = single line
10x-14.9x base multiplier = 2 lines
15x+ base multiplier = 3 lines

It’s just something i quickly put together, most of it should be accurate.
And yes, mixed up C1 & D1

creativebinary map looks very nice :D

black = 0/no shard
red = 5000 or lower
orange = 5001-18000
green = 18000+

something similar for base exp: http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/9940/baseexp.png

You can drop gems on the anvil (in the middle of the 8 gem creation buttons) to duplicate them. Or just hover over a gem and press “D”. By duplicating the only limit on the grade of gem you can make in a single click is the size of your mana pool.

Gembombing the anvil “sells” a gem, giving 70% of it’s mana back (85% with gembomb upgrade, premium-only)

I pretty much always use orange/lime & a cyan/lime behind it.
Didn’t think of combining all 3 though, would need to do the maths to see what is most efficient.

You can try to get all (or as much as possible) journey/challenge amulets.

Beside that… can’t think of much. You could try to beat all maps again on highest difficulty setting for more exp although endurance is the best by far for exp.

And yea, as slogsdon said, you can try beating all waves in a pylon lvl (although it will give less exp then a endurance game unless you do some insane summoning)

If you are going for a summon multiplier (every game except endurance) it probably is worth to avoid the grades in this post http://www.kongregate.com/forums/23-gemcraft-chapter-0/topics/146498-numbercraft-the-math-behind-gcl#posts-3271197 when angering a lot.

Low grade = lots of gems needed to summon a lot of monsters → high HP / armor increase after several angers.
high grade = lots of monsters summoned with a single gem with a moderate Hp increase & low armor increase.

I usually anger with grade 1-3 in normal games as you usually don’t summon more then 10-20 monsters a wave anyway.
In longer games like endurance i summon with as high grade as possible (without making a too big gap in my mana pool/defense), summoning 50 (or 500-2000, lol) monsters in a single wave with a grade 8-9 or with 10 grade 1’s make a huge difference in hp/armor.

Just go explore, setting whatever difficulty that is fun to play on.
I got to the 2nd pylon lvl or so before starting to replay maps.

why, no, I was detecting this effect for towers, since I don’t use traps being non-premium (primarily non-premium).

Strange, i just tested this with pure lime & lime/yellow but never saw any self-chains. A “100% chance to hit 3 targets” also produce only 2 (identical damage) hits when hitting 2 monsters.

Results from testing with traps:
Gem – 569-1144 damage
100% chance to hit 7 targets
21% chance to hit 8 targets
--
Single hit against 2 targets (targets have 6 & 4 armor): 3667 & 3341 damage.
Hits against targets with the same armor still did not give exactly the same damage so it seems that damage is calculated every single hit?

Single hit against 1 target: 5798 damage

And something about lime/orange towers.
A tower: 100% chance to hit 3 targets
8% chance to hit 4 targets
3.4 * 2.0 mana gain / hit

Single hit against 3 targets:
All 3 targets are hit for the same damage
7 mana gain – even though it chained, the mana-steal only actived once.

While the same gem in a trap stole mana on every chain.

Due to this nature of chain hit it seems that using lime/orange towers is worse then pure orange towers. lime/orange traps are still great though.

@bigcat2
With 1000 battle amulets (hover over the amulets button to see how many you have):
rank 1 ritual – 3Skillpoints – 25 mana extra
rank 20 ritual – 80 Sp – 55.5 mana

Focus gives about 7.5% / rank – SP depends on rank – 90 mana extra

as fractalman said, rank 1 is pretty good

rank20 ritual should eventually be better then focus as amulets/focus cost keep increase but even with 3600 amulets & 49SP cost/focus, it’s still not worth it.

I though that was only for traps?
I didn’t put my gem in a trap since that would limit it to 6 amplifiers. (and the monsters would have to travel to the trap → more monsters on screen → more lag :<)

That means…

X^(1/.53)*U = number of summoned monsters needed

X being desired multiplier
U being unsummoned monsters

with 13,102 unsummoned monsters(9.8 giants * 1337 waves, NOT including the ones that the shadow spawns), it would take about 41,385,667 summoned monsters to beat 71.57 multiplier D:
31K monsters / wave for 1337 waves… might be possible theoretically (as Y/L is imba strong) but i don’t think my computer can take that :P

Edit; refined calculations – average giants / wave is 2.45 (tested in D10 & C2 endurance with x1 monsters, giants only – results were 3,273 & 3,279 monsters killed)

I angered a lot of waves before the HP flattened out so that more monsters would hit my mana farm. But actually, I spent MUUUCH too much time on mana making.

Tried that, doesn't work (screenshot below)

That’s not too hard actually. I’ve Gotten up to a 7.23 summon multiplier on normal (giant only) field G10. And that was just gathering data on the summon scaling curve, and playing without 20 extra levels. Add 20 levels to scale things up and really push for the max and 10X multiplier should be doable without too much trouble.

How many monsters did you summon for that 7.23 multiplier? oO I tried B7, all difficulties (but +20 waves instead of endurance -> 56 waves). summoned 16,769 monsters vs 20,153 killed - 3,384 non-summoned ones (only just read frostlion's post about bugged gems :( ) ended up with only 2.57 summon multiplier.

well, I have just read about first occurrence of a really high gem (G37) in GCL game comments back at AG. However, no screen yet – requested.

G37 :O seems kinda high though assuming rank 21 gems (about 112.2mil max mana mana, fills up easily in <0>

Now for some screenshots :D 10th time beating endurance, many personal records set here including max mana & kills in a row
Best gem i made ever made so far, didn't really push the grade cap, just wanted something that could take 200-300 7-10 bil hp monsters / wave. Didn't use 50/50 lime/yellow (no need for more then 200 targets), more like 3/29 lime/yellow (1/8 L/O + 1/16 L/O)
Stats (screenshot taken same time as first one), when i see the damage dealt, the "deal 1 mil dmg" *challenge* make me laugh :) Also 245,583+ monster summoned, that game took me 5h
Summing in endurance... does nothing :(
