Topic: Game Programming / GiTD [#29] Voting

I give BobJanova’s “Night and Day” my #1 vote for creating a compelling strategy game (even if the balance needs a little work) and Gengii’s “Today is Forever” my #2 vote for creating a unique and attractive RPG (even if it’s still a tad buggy).

Seeing how short the entry list is makes me really wish I’d gotten an an entry together. I even had a cool idea! (Sort of.)

Topic: Game Programming / Isosurface rendering?

This paper talks about converting an isosurface into a mesh, which you could then use in your game:

Topic: Game Programming / Isosurface rendering?

Isosurfaces are far too slow to use in a game.

Actually, I’m not aware of any technique for directly drawing an isosurface with scanline rendering. Isosurfaces are generally used with raytracers. (And if you think that raytracing is slow, wait until you try to raytrace an isosurface!)

BTW, GCC has AVR support (the architecture Arduino uses) so in principle you can use that to program the Arduino in any language GCC supports. In practice, you can use C and a subset of C++.

All the tutorials I see for building Arduino programs with GCC assume that you’re using Linux and that you already know your way around the Linux CLI—nothing terribly noob-friendly. I can dig deeper if you really want me to.

it’s java-based, but this is free and should give you something to play with:

Thanks for the pointer!

The link seems to work now. Not sure if you edited it, or if Reddit rearranged things such that it works now.

Topic: Game Programming / How to get motivated to make games?

Tell someone that you’re going to accomplish milestone X in Y days, and have them hold you to it.

GiTD helps with this.

The “Anime” suggestions got me thinking: Would there be any interest in a GiTD built around the “theme”, “Here’s some art. Make a game with it.”

Then I’d vote for the 11th or later. That said, I’m not certain whether I’ll get to build a game, so don’t hold it up on my account!

@Opossum: How about an RTS where you kill zombies, and use their body parts to build new units? :-P

As someone new to GiTD:

Are we voting on starting dates, or closing dates, or what?

Topic: Game Programming / Where do I direct contest questions?

Where should I direct questions about Kongregate’s developer contests?

In case anyone here can answer: Are HTML5 games welcome in the mobile development contest?

Thanks for reading.
