Topic: Serious Discussion / Causes for World War III

Once technology advances far enough so that nukes can easily be tracked and stopped, a third world war would follow soon after. World war 1 and 2 happened fairly close together, the only thing that stopped a third was nukes.

It is very unlikely, humans will always to change things, and will never be satisfied with what they have. Unless they all have lobotomies to make them mindless slaves. Then we will have world peace.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Religion taken TOO far? (Horrible parents?)

They should go to jail. If a father gets drunk and beats their child to death, the father would still go to jail. He shouldn’t have gotten that drunk. When you are drunk, you do stupid things that you wouldn’t normally do. Parents in this situation are deeply religious, which also leads them to do stupid things, which they wouldn’t do if they weren’t deeply religious, but they should still go to jail. Religion makes people do stupid things.

Topic: Serious Discussion / IF god was real why dosnt he fix the world we live in now

“I love discussing how other Christians think, but I would not go as far as trying to convince the other to think differently.”
If you believed in heaven and hell, I would think that you would want to convince others of your belief, thus saving them from what you believe to be eternal suffering. And that doesn’t seem that merciful either, punishing people forever?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Faith & Religion-Your Story?

My parents are atheist, and I agree with it. I see no reason to choose a religion, none of them give any kind of proof of why they are right, and I find it hard to blindly follow something with no reason to believe in it.

Topic: Serious Discussion / A Male's view on "Chick Flicks"

About the term “cick flicks” being sexist I disagree. Or maybe agree, depending on the definition of sexist. But I do think it is somewhat accurate. There are exceptions, but they are aimed at woman, and more woman like them than men. A lot of stereotypes are based on fact.

Topic: Serious Discussion / How much money is your own life worth to you?

A life isn’t worth 6.9 million dollars. And by this I mean it is worth less. You could probably save more than one life with 6.9 million dollars, so why would one person’s life be worth that much? And for the lottery idea, I would settle for something much lower than most of the previous amounts for a 1% chance of dying. I would settle for 100 000 dollars, even 50 000 for one try.
Edit: For a 1% chance I would take $1 000 now that I think about it. You have all probably willingly done something with that chance of dying for no money at all.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Does suicide mean you are going to hell??

Paradoxy you make a good point, but if you truly wanted to commit suicide and hated your life, you would be too lazy to really do much. And if there is a god, despite what the bible says he is definetly not omnibenevolent, omniscient and omnipotent. And if he created us, and knew exactly how we were going to turn out, every one of us, and he is omnipotent so he could have created us in a way where none of us were “evil” or “sinners”, how can he punish us for his decision on how to make us?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Does suicide mean you are going to hell??

“Of course not. I don’t know why this would be any different than other sins- lying, stealing, taking the Lord’s name in vain, as well as some others that are not as obvious. I sin all the time; I often do things that are not at all in worship to God. Do I repent? Yes- but not for each and every specific sin. If I had to do that to get into heaven, I wouldn’t stand a chance. Repentance is not simply asking for forgiveness; it’s realizing that you have done something wrong, admitting that you are certainly not holy like Him- the most important thing is having a sincere heart by realizing that, because what you have done is wrong, you must make an honest attempt to not do it again.”
I wouldn’t count on you not having to repent on every sin. This “god” I’ve been hearing about so much seems quite picky and some what petty to me.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Why are you Atheist?

Christians believe that god created everything. Even if you are a chrisitan who believes in evolution, you’re probably going to still believe that he created heaven and earth, I think it’s a key part to being a christian.
And, if there is a god, how he can be both benevolent and omnipotent. If he’s omnipotent, it means he can do anything as easily as he likes. That includes stopping all suffering, and yet still retain the benefits of it (whatever those may be), because he can do anything. If he gave us free will, it’s his fault for everything bad we do, he created us that way, and because he is omniscient he knew what the outcome would be. I don’t think there is a god; but if there is, he can’t be like what the christian god is like. If he is omnipotent, he is cruel, and if he’s benevolent then he has limited power.

Topic: Off-topic / how to survive zombie attack

Melee: 2 machettes
Short range: Shotgun along with a mini uzi. While the shotgun takes a long time to reload, the force of the shot means that no matter how resistent they are to pain they will be stopped in their tracks. Thats the problem with most pistols. the uzi, while very inaccurate, at that range it shouldn’t matter.
Mid range: Some kind of Assualt rifle.
Long range: Some kind of very powerful sniper rifle.
Base: Depends if I am alone or not. If I am alone, then I hide. Somewhere with strong walls and no windows, in a room with one door. Not alone: maybe eight people, then some kind of building in the centre of a large clearing, Preferably on a hill, with flood lights and alarms set off by trip wires, with barbed wire sourrounding it, with barred windows, so that you can shoot out of them but zombies can’t get in and a reinforced door, and strong walls.

Topic: Serious Discussion / God, the Bible, and religion - a Kong search for truth

How can you prove the reliability of the Bible? There is no proof that the Bible is correct, and just thinking about it it doesn’t make sense. And if you could “prove” the reliability of the Bible, wouldn’t that also mean that you could prove the existence of god? The bible was written thousands of years ago so how is it reliable?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Sex at an early age?

“sex is meant for reproduction ( obviously). Thinking in the sense of survival, you should have sex at about 16 years old. Any earlier and it would probably damage the woman.”
Omega has a point. If your religious then you might not think this, but the point of sex is reproduction, and the point of replroduction is survival of a species. That’s how nature intended it. And we are lying to ourselves to think that there is any point of our existence other than to simply keep existing.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Proposition 8 in California, 2008

The only arguments for prop. 8 are religion and the meaning of a word. Religion should have no part in government and I don’t see the problem in changing a the meaning of a word so every one is happy. So I fail to see a single good reason for prop. 8.
