Topic: Galaxy Online / How to not get farmed...for noobs.

Galaxy Transfer is useful to mess up a Send. It’s not perfectly random, but it is a waste to use an Adv. Transfer if your regular Transfer takes you where you want.

One amusing technique is to place blocking fleets of ballistic or planetary at the four entrances. If your enemy attacks with anything but ballistics, they are stuck (you will lose the other fleets when they come to intercept, probably.) Generally you just want to be too much trouble; ‘farming’ and ‘raiding’ is theft; most theft avoidance is simply making yourself more trouble than you are worth.

Negligence is a form of abuse.

Given that status of laws and such, he does have a valid claim. I don’t know what precedent is established for such claims, but given that Valve and others are trying to bind their users from partaking in class action suits, I’d think there’s a possibility there.

IGG has not been very conscientious about dealing with abuse in general (consider how poorly the filter works and ignoring corps names like BIYF) and whether this is because of a cultural/language barrier or because they don’t see such things as worth their time, I do not know. However it is clear that they have not at all kept up to the standard of filtering and moderation that is expected of games in general. This game is on Kong and is played by people of all ages.

In short, if you really think you have a claim here, at least talk to a lawyer about it and don’t listen to @Fortunate. At the very least, I’d be glad to see IGG clamp down on certain abusive behaviors – something that is not at all draconian but is just simply the rules of normal internet conversation moderation.

Gram, people buy ships all the time, and not just for MP or gold, but within corps either as gifts (ships sold at lower than value or just given) or for recycling ships. Just ask zinxx, lol.

Topic: Galaxy Online / Feature Suggestion

Speaking of suggestions, it would be nice to be able to customize common commanders in some rudimentary fashion. Like changing their name or selecting a different portrait from a couple of different possibilities. This would make it easier to differentiate between those with similar abilities and levels.

cheese, you do realize that no one controls or even commands these people? That Dracon or anyone can say whatever they want about Blazing Suns policy, but the reality is they have none? That whatever Sealside and others want to do suddenly becomes policy?

The raw and naked human will. A shame cols don’t have a way to lock down disobedient corps members.

Topic: Galaxy Online / Agility and Steering Power, what do they do?

Steering is important for fighting frigates and some cruisers. As far as I can tell, it works against agility. Frigate armor types are Neutral and Nano; Neutral is affected best by heat and kinetic, ballistic types, and nano by kinetic and magnetic, ballistic and directional types. Note that ship based has all of those types, but ship based has the naturally lowest steering so steering mods make sense in any case.

I don’t know that there is a great argument for say, IR scanner with Nemesis or Flamer, but with Kinetic guns (which have lower steering than Heat guns) if you are going to be facing high agility vessels the steering will help.

You should test it out in arena, though _

I found your second sentence confusing, especially given that you only wrote one sentence and that the bonus of 80k shield hp is somewhat insignificant in endgame situations.

Note: Lasers on the moon have the best chance to hit, second is lasers on top of sharks. All other ships follow in order of steering power.

@btl

You work out the math (more or less.) If EOS with tech gives ~78 negation per module, you would need 78/3, or 26 EOS shields before the effectiveness boost from ESB (+3 to all sheild module effectiveness) would match the bonus to negation from adding a single EOS shield module. \

However, given damage reflect and that Battleships tend to have lower base shield values, the fact that ESB adds more shield hit points (though not more negation) may be of more utility. EOS adds 220, whereas ESB adds 300. Thus over a stack of 1000 ships, say, that makes a difference of 80000 shield hit points, which may make the difference between shields going down or remaining up. And on glass cannons, so called because they typically have low stability, taking hull damage almost certainly means losing ships. If you’re attempting to farm the instance, you wish to do so as economically as possible; the math generally works out that losing ships doesn’t save you he3 use but costs you resources to replace the ships.

Reflected damage (as he said) just gets taken straight out of shield and hull hp, ignoring negation and such. I do not know the list of things it ignores, but it may be essentially everything (defense, agility, damage reduction from daedalus, from flagship, etc.) As such, having a lot of negation but not much shield hp plus a high attack value (as would be the case for a glass cannon) would make it likely that you will take hull damage from reflect.

The other thing to consider other than negation bonus and shield hp is the module size; ESB’s are 18 whereas EOS is 22. Thus a situation may arise where you design a ship and you have less than 22 module space left; for a glass cannon (which will not be in the front row anyway) it will likely be more beneficial to add an ESB than to finagle the modules to get 22 space.

Since ballistics fire every round, the extra range is always useful as it will allow you to attack when you otherwise would not be able to.

so here’s the question: if a game such as this becomes free entirely for us, who pays the bills then? Should we set up a grant?

Seriously though, I’d be interested in someone coming up with a totally free to play model that really is free to play. The only two I can think of are donation-based (inconsistent income) and one-time payment (such as Minecraft.) But the latter doesn’t pay for servers; the players have to pay for them.

So there’s no free lunch, really. People just can’t accept that MP is the pay currency. Guess what folks, that’s how free to play works – yes, you may be able to play for free, but someone is still paying.

Or to put it another way: If the service is free, you are the product.

Kids? Who says we’re kids? Some of us might be as old as you are. We’d like to protect our experience if possible; guess we can’t rely on a company to enforce its own rules. And we certainly can’t rely on the community of users to care what the rules are, can we.

No, there’s no two different meanings here. It’s an idiom with a clearly obscene and abusive intent.

@GKZ

I still don’t see it — the time commitment to running alternate accounts is totally limited by ingenuity, and that is all we can say about that subject.

Topic: Galaxy Online / IGG-Are multiple-accounts allowed?

paying doesn’t tell you much, if you want to understand my meaning. If the minimum purchase is 250 MP to be a paying player, how much is that? If players can have a scaled advantage based on their spend (as opposed to their tenacity/cleverness/luck) it quickly creates a great gulf in power. Players who still wish to win but do not play the pay-to-win game will find other ways of overcoming the gap. Alts do not allow the acquisition of free goods at all – any of the goods an alt acquires for a main is the same as a corpmate for another corpmate. The CC’s must have been purchased or their unbind been purchased. (The rate of drawing CC’s from the Command Center is low.)

This is to say, the minimum paying player is not significantly, or categorically different than the free player in terms of power. Exceptions exist, naturally. The structure of unlimited spend → power is profitable for the serving company, but radically disadvantages players unwilling or unable to send their dollars in that direction. That alts come ‘mostly’ – unverifiable quote there – from paying players only further reinforces my original point. If they are taking advantage of alts to somehow gain free stuff, IGG would care. But for 99% of the time, they aren’t. You dig?

Alts merely increase the competition and force the hand of ‘Wallet Warriors’ to spend more to compensate.

Topic: Galaxy Online / IGG-Are multiple-accounts allowed?

The disbalancing of the game inherent to the pay/non-pay structure means that free players will be at a disadvantage that cannot be overcome. Therefore, players will do things to bridge this gap. Officially this will be disallowed, but in reality, these alt accounts can’t actually get ‘free stuff’ – remember that all player gifts are bound, thus you would have to pay MP (i.e. real money) to unlock them and send them to another account, whether it be a corpmate or an alt. Thus while IGG does not permit or encourage it, they are unlikely to stop the behavior because the new structure means that alts only increase competition and the potential for payment.

I think he means, can you make a confirm button for spending millions of resources all at once? For instance, the speed shipbuilding button can suck down your MP without noticing. Maybe a setting that turns spend warnings on for 1mil+/instant MP use buttons.
