It’s not simply procrastination. I have sat down with Gimp and other graphics programs, even just pencil and paper trying to sketch out how I want a menu screen to look, or how a sprite should look, or even to design new arenas (for other games), and nothing strikes me as being good enough. It’s not that I am not putting the time in to try to do the things, I am just not able to come up with something I like. While experimenting with code, sometimes I will just use game sprites from old SNES games or something, but I can legally use those sprites in a finished product.

@Ambitious I have tried making a todo list for the games, but I don’t know what to put on them. I find that the way I like things in a game, is now how other people like it. I made AI for my tank combat game, and it is difficult, but I had fun trying to figure out how to fool the computer so I could win. Other’s have complained to me that it is too hard, and they hate it.

With my racing game, part of the issue is debating if I want to make it into a game where you race the computer, or a game where you race alone against a clock. The things that need to be done for both are different. If you are just racing the clock, I don’t need to worry about collisions with the opponents. If you are racing other cars though, they probably shouldn’t drive through each other.

Part of my problem is that it takes me longer to make graphics than it does to code the game. I am not very graphically inclined at all, but I don’t have a budget to pay anyone to do graphics work for me. The cars in my race game are GTA 2 sprites, and the track was done quickly by my brother in law.

I like the learning process of making games. I recently made an Atari Combat clone. Working out the AI and other things was fun for me, but trying to polish it into a pretty game that I could release to the masses was not very fun for me at all, and I don’t do a good job of it. I have also been working on a racing game, but I just can’t bring myself to develop it into a full game. I like experimenting with the code and and trying to make it better, but I have no desire to try to finalize it into a game.

What would you guys suggest I do? Should I try to partner up with someone to try to make my games into something I can release? Or should I just put up a site with source code snippets for people to learn from?

For anyone curious, the combat game can be found on my profile here, and my racing preview can be found at:

Keep in mind, it’s just AI racing around the track right there.
