Topic: Game Programming / Getting Started Making Multiplayer Games In Unity

Figured I’d point out that the tutorial has been discontinued and the videos have been taken down. Sorry guys, but I just don’t have time to continue this.

Topic: CS Portable / Anyone want me to add Trouble in terrorist town?

At least he’s asking and doing it for good purposes. Seriously doubt he can though. lol

Hacking this game probably wouldn’t be that hard since they probably didn’t add much security to the game. You know it’s not that great when laggers get kicked for cheating while sometimes the real cheaters don’t. (not sure if it’s still like that now)

You can do limited things already defined in the game code (such as modifying your speed, because somewhere there is a value that defines your speed and it can be modified given the right tools).
You cannot, however, add NEW code. It’s simply not possible.

Ok ,it would take very little coding. LET ME GIVE EVERYONE A LITTLE LESSON FROM A CODER ABOUT SO CALLED PEFORMANCE ISSUES. THERE IS NO SUCH THING.well, you cannot port the whole campaign for mw3 to a phone, but you can add this game mode in about a hour of coding. If you do not believe me,to create this.
1. Add a new mode(options folder)to the main menu.
2.Make a regular team death match and put it in the new game mode folder(aka:troubleinterroristtown)
3.Edit game properties,so now there are a team leader(detective) on innocent team.
4.Edit game properties, now use a chance factor of how many players and randomly chose a terrorist.
5. Now make the terrorists team name to others appear to be on there team.
6.Now you make Team killing avaible to the terrorist team(aka:the traitor)
7. Save changes and implement.

See? I do code games, there is a way to implement most stuff. This game would only add about 550kb of data to the game file, because there is already a team death match file. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!! I could code this into the game, only if someone would be willing to test it. YOUR DAMN WELCOME!!

Nice try, troll. Code into the game? Where? You hacked your way into the game’s codebase somehow?
I call bull.
As a programmer, that is probably more than an hour of work. More likely, a few days (depending on how modes are already set up).

Topic: CS Portable / Respectfully Leaving The CSP Community

To clarify, the idea behind Nukefall is that while on the one hand it is mostly a standard team-based multiplayer versus shooter, the RPG-style character progression would manifest in the form of character stats you can spend skill points on as you level up – stuff like Stamina, Aim, Agility, etc.
And I understand you wouldn’t play the game, acustic – it’s not possible to make a game that satisfies everybody after all, but that doesn’t mean it won’t sell well ;)

And to clarify something else, this unfortunately will NOT be a free game, in order to avoid the all-too-common scenario of pay-to-win. The game will instead be aimed at Steam distribution via the Greenlight program, and OUYA support will also be maintained in the game’s design throughout the development process.

It’s going to be First-Person Shooter style. I’m thinking a bit of a cross between Borderlands and Team Fortress 2.

who will be responsable for the new HUDS?

I’m gonna let OnMars figure that one out ;)

And the post apocalyptic themed game will be named :
“Critical Strike Portable” :P

The current working title is “Project Nukefall” :)

Topic: CS Portable / Respectfully Leaving The CSP Community

Some of you may know who I am, some of you may not. It doesn’t matter that much.
A while ago, I had found this game, Critical Strike Portable. It was a fun little shooter, even if I wasn’t particularly good at it.
And it’s been fun to watch this game grow, and even to contribute some here and there (for example, the voice chat was developed and contributed by me).

But today I’ve decided I am going to be finally leaving CSP and moving on.
I am going to be focusing a majority of my time working on my own games (my next project will be a post-apocalyptic themed multiplayer cartoony team-based shooter with RPG-style character progression. fun stuff :D)

I bid a goodbye to everybody, a good luck to the staff of Studio OnMars on this and future games, and happy gaming.

Topic: CS Portable / Add a way to view server details prior to joining

This feature I think would have been easily doable if instead of changing settings during the game, hosts could set the settings BEFORE they created a game (which is how it should have been in the first place, but that’s another story). As it is, I don’t believe you can change the name of the game after it’s created in Photon, which is where this data would be stored normally. So it actually truly is not possible.

As for number of users, that’s built into the Photon API.

Topic: CS Portable / hard to kick

It doesn’t make sense for moderators to be able to kick people when moderators are themselves abusive.

Sigh.

Anyway, back on topic. I believe in a room with just two people 1v1’ing each other, only one vote. In a room with 3 guys, only two votes. Beyond that, I think it requires 3 votes to kick.

Have an idea you think will change the game for the better?
Lol, jk

At the moment this isn’t actually possible for a few reasons. Server settings are done basically as commands given to the client when they connect to the game. The issue is that it’s not possible to actually view these from the lobby. If the game had a more solid design instead of the feature hodgepodge that has happened over time, it could have had a more solid Search Flags function…

Topic: CS Portable / CSP Hud Redesign?

I honestly don’t know. It’s essentially ready for implementation, but I’m still waiting until I’m actually a member of the team / have access to the project to integrate the new HUD.

No! Bad person! No cookie for you!
We don’t want any of that CoD or Modern Warfare spargle gunkle wee-wee (it’s funny if you watch Zero Punctuation) invading our precious Critical Strike ;)

Topic: CS Portable / What the f*** is this?

This appears to be a MySQL database error. Perhaps the login server was throwing a hissy fit there, could be for any reason. For example, the Aim400K site has similar errors when there are too many users logged in at once (which happens on a frequent basis, it’s actually quite annoying)

Yes, I see your point. I’m simply saying even if we wanted to we couldn’t change it. It’s out of our control since we’re relying on a third party service to host our servers.

The problem is we cannot continue running CSP if we let it continue being free. That’s why the iOS version is paid.
I believe OnMars is focusing on making CSP a Free-To-Play game. If you want to fund this effort (which will eventually make it into the iOS version if successful), you can donate by purchasing a copy of Critical Missions for your iPhone or iPad ;)

Topic: CS Portable / Host Assignment During Matches

Actually, I don’t believe it’s possible for us to change how host selection works. It’s a process built into the Photon Cloud server code, which we are unfortunately unable to modify
It is based, I believe, on order of players joined
If player A, B, and C all join in alphabetical order, and then player A leaves, player B would be the next host. If player B leaves, player C would be the next host.

Topic: CS Portable / **IDEA**

I don’t see this as being possible.
There are two ways about this, either this is basically a glorified Juggernaut mode or it would basically be a completely different game within CSP in order to accomodate the full functionality of a Slender-style game in multiplayer. In either case I do not see this as a likely feature.

Topic: CS Portable / The translating chat (Suggestion)

This very likely won’t be implemented, for some very good reasons.
At the current level of translation software, and the computational overhead required for them, in-game chat isn’t really feasible yet. I believe there were several instances where games had chat translation in the beginning, but was removed later. And these were games that had multi-million dollar budgets.
The truth is, the translation system would require too much overhead to justify the broken “engrish” that comes out. If translation software can improve to the point of producing acceptable translations, we’ll start to see more games adding and more importantly keeping them.

Topic: CS Portable / Question/Suggestion. Webcam Avatar

I believe as far as Unity is concerned, a webcam is a webcam is a webcam. There’s no “selecting which software to use”, it just picks the first device it detects (if you only have one, it will pick that one). I know ManyCam works with the Unity webcam API out-of-the-box, as I’ve done some limited tests with it and had no issues (it does after all emulate a webcam device as if you had one plugged in)

Topic: CS Portable / Feature Request - Chat Logging

Hm…. how about this.
Users get their own private local log space, which allows them to narrow things down by date / time if they report it within a reasonable time (so it’s not overwritten). The date/time are reported to customer support along with other things such as what the actual incident was. Our moderators can then check with the logs from a cloud-based logging service, narrowing it down by date and time (making it secure, since users won’t be able to spoof the logs stored here without unreasonable effort) and taking according action against said user.
