Stencyl is a failure.
Stencyl is for the masses. It’s not targeting those 5 customers who are waiting for that magic tasty burger from a french restaurant. It’s a mcdonalds where anyone can come in and afford it. It’s provides a low entry point so that graphic designers who cannot code or coders who cannot draw to come together. It’s also a great teaching tool for beginners. It will be in high school, some game centric design house and even perhaps some early college computer science classes. Much like scratch, it can be translated into different languages so that more people from different part of the world can use it.
I think a lot of people just have the notion of using stencyl is to create the greatest game in the world. There are much more than that.

! I_like_stencyl = true
Real programmers only worry about how to get their own code to work and not spending time hoping and praying other people success or failures. Anyway, thanks for more publicity for istencyl. I heard the progress is going real well and beta is not that far off.
I’ll be the first few hundred people to test out the program. Awesome.

Stencyl Q&A
Thanks for taking the initiative, finesse. You are of great help to the stencyl community. I would suggest you also check the stencylpedia and help them with some of the articles that they are looking for.
The folks at stencyl welcome people help and would not nitpick on one’s wording or grammar as long as you get the message through.
Well done.

Stencyl has a bad name
There are people moving their older games from Construct or Gamemaker to stencyl. If you have written your games with AS3, you can use their code mode to do it. But it take some work also to import graphics/music etc.

Stencyl has a bad name
If there are any haters at all, it’s only on Kongregate site and it’s perhaps mostly from pro people who are jealous that this would cut into their area of dominance. Go to stencyl froum and it’s nothing but praise for the software itself.
Anyways, numbers do not lie. Go to quantacast or alexin, look at stencyl.com and the 2-3 year old hottest gamemaker gamesalad, stencyl is not that far off catching up with gamesalad in daily and monthly users. Stencyl is just one month old since launch. Lots of interests on their site. Especially with IOS coming out later this year, I can cross advertise my IOS and flash games.

Very few great Stencyl games
Come on. Unity has been open to public for a while. Stencyl is just 3 weeks after launch. One is a 3-D oriented gamemaker targeted towards high end. Stencyl is for any aspiring gamemaker. Give it some time. I can venture to say that if I start learning Unity today, it will take me at least 3 months to develop a decent game on my own.
And if you notice, new stencyl users sticks around better than other game maker site. And their mobile feature has yet to be launched.

fading away
I think you need to create a killed animation where you have multiple frames from original to final fade away (may be 5 frames) and tell the frame not to loop. Another option is that there are blur effect you can apply to an actor with varying degree.

You must be kidding. From what I understand, it’s heavily used. I’m talking about the one on stencyl.com site. Little slower after midnight.

I’m gonna keep an eye out for this thread for possible games I’m gonna make.
Even as a regular stencyl user, I have to agree. Keep it up, sunrisekingdom.

Enemy moves toward actor (Fixed)
On Forge behavior, there is a behavior called “Follow actor of type”, just download to your game, attach to the attacking enemy, save, close and reopen game and it should work.
You should also open this behavior to study it. Thanks.

Lag
It’s a known issue. You can check the memory usage one in a while (cntl-shft-esc on Win XP) and look for StencylWroks.exe. For me, once it reaches up to 400K, I will save and close my game, exit StencylWorks and restart.
Remember to save your game often also.
I know they are aware of this issue and it’s just a matter of allocating their resources to the more urgent ones for now.

Thoughts on Stencyl
I think they realize that and have been moving most of those tutorial games out of the way. However, more tutorial keep coming in. You can mention this in their forum and I’ll sure they will do something about it.

Welcome to Stencyl!
You can potentially use your flash game as advertisement and as a lead in to your iphone games. That is, if your game, is legit. Would love to see your game when they do come out.

Welcome to Stencyl!
Great post, snipahar.
For anyone who want to monetize their game and creation, one can go the flash route. Also make sure you keep in mind special requirements like different screen size and controls you may need when you are also planning for IOS development. It’s coming in couple of months.

Welcome to Stencyl!
To be honest, before stencyl come along, I won’t even know how to get started in making a game.
Now, with all these months of “training”, I can not only make some decent games. I believe I am good enough to create stencyl game with it’s upcoming IOS exporter so that I can make some $$$ on iphone.
Flash + IOS is really powerful.

"Royalty–free"?
I understand Forge 2.0 will clarify all ownership problem in a lot more details.
If you are good at graphics/music etc, you are in luck. That will be plenty of monetization opportunity with the upcoming features and projects.
