So many questions.. Ok.. So in your diagram, the Second wall, How do you determine to not check the Bottom left corner? Do you start at the closest wall and move out ignoring any corners already ‘darkened’ by previous walls? Or do you still check that corner, but effectively nothing is done?
I think I get how you did this.. But, is the light in the end your fully lit triangle with a dynamically created ‘light’ polygon mask? That is actually something I wanted to know because I was wondering if it is possible to dynamically create a mask polygon.
(I am thinking about creating a platform game where There is a background, action layer, and foreground layer, and I mask out the forground dynamically as the character moves behind the objects..)

smigbob: Actually that is basically had I had it before. I literally snagged the code from the forum, where someone assigned a variable to the root.kongregateusername; and then used that var in a compare.
Arcane: I’ll try to get the time to create a simple new flash file, but today is looking busy. I am using Macromedia flash pro 8.0. Not sure what version of AS I have (although it is technically written in 1.0 although 2.0 is available) nor the version of flash player. (although flash player 8 is in my program files folder, I could have sworn I have the latest player available.)

Plus I don’t think (of course I’m not great at AS2 programming yet, so your shortcut might work) your code will work. As the name instance of the dynamic text box is “UserName_txt” So maybe AS2 is smart enough to know that if I assign a string to the object I want it to put it in the text field. What I do know is that the results I was getting was having the text box say “Greetings” instead of “Greetings Caimbul”. So I know that the assignment of the string is working, but it isn’t getting data from the root.kongregateusername call.
Interesting note, I just tried it today and I got the results “Greetings Guest” (because I’m behind a firewall) When I go home I’ll see if it works now…. If it works now.. then I wonder why it wasn’t working last night.. ?
Where UserName_txt is an instance of a dynamic text box, and all I get is “Greetings” in game. I’ve tried putting it right after the connect, when they hit the Start Game button, and in the callback api (which had interesting results)
Isn’t a cleaner solution to use the isreleased event? to do something when someone releases the key instead of when someone presses, or has the key pressed?

First once you figure out how to play the game it is actually kind of cute. Although the music gets irritating when someone goes to below 25 health.
But first read the instructions and try to gleen any information you can from it.
The game is a Pokemon/Mtg/Yugio(spelling) type game. You have creatures that you play (water on water, earth on earth, air on air) You only get one creature of a given type active.
Each turn you can discard one card into your sack to increase the sack size by one, and give yourself an egg.
Each card you play costs X eggs (the number on the bottom left some are free/0 cost)
Each card has a ‘power level’ (the number on the top left) For creatures this is how much damage they can do, Rocks (I guess because dinos can’t use firearms) boost your creatures damage, Potions heal you, and scrolls damage your enemies creatures. Drag and drop each card to where it belongs to play it.
When you end your turn, your creatures (not eggs) attack. (Earth attacks the earth creature, Water on Water, Air on Air.) If the creature is unblocked he does his damage to the player. If there is a creature (or egg) infront of them he attacks them. Both creatures damage each other according to their power and are reduced in kind. (If I have 7 and the opponent has a 3 power egg, It dies and I am reduced to 4) If they tie they both die. Then it is your opponents turn.
When your turn starts, Your ‘Eggs’ refresh to the max ‘Sack’ Size. (Like mana refreshing from an untap phase) You also have the opportunity to draw a new card (clicking on the little box by your health and ‘card deck size’ counter)
NOTE: On your first turn you can draw an extra card! Do not forget to draw.
That is basically it. I have gone through and won the earth arena challenge, and I’m almost done water. I don’t really know what they do since the creatures you face span each type, and you can pick any deck you want to use. (The earth decks I think are the best, Water is weak, Air is slow)
You can play any creature you have ‘Eggs’ for, but if you start with a step 1 or 2 their starting power is severely reduced. But If you can play the creatures in order, their power adds and you get a bonus. (If you have an egg on the field power 1, and add a basic creature with a power of 2 on top you get a basic creature with the power of 4) And the bonus continues for each stage. Once you have a card out, It seems you can’t skip a phase (Egg→Basic→Stage 1→Stage 2) You can start on any stage of evolution, but can’t jump. (ie. Egg to Stage 1/2, Basic to Stage 2)
Sometimes it is a good idea to start with an egg, but leaving an egg out alone can get it easily killed. You’ll often want to hold back on the egg until you can afford to put out the egg and basic type in one turn.
Some other strategies, Try to corner your opponent into being forced to keep a high level but weak character. (a stage 1 or 2 creature but you reduced their power) this will lock down your opponent so they can’t play anymore creatures of that type. (and let you battle on the other two types) While you can spend your creatures of that type to increase your egg sack.
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind getting some of the older character cards as well. From what I understand they might be doing like booster packs when the game goes live. (I hope like Tafari and My Little Ninja)
Good Job Carac.. I personally doubt I’ll ever get the damned Streamline impossible badge and the hard ragdoll ninja one (My record is like 200, I think I’m missing some key strategy)
As for the golf, although I don’t have the platinum one yet, I have noticed that many people go for hard shots and try to tiger each hole. Just remember that you have 4 swings, I personally like humping the ball around planets to get better shots at key planets, or just hopping from planet to planet until I can orbit or blast through the goal. Maybe it’ll help ya get those impossibles.
I noticed that now there are enough badges that theorically someone could earn over 100 badges. I was just thinking that the first person to do it would deserve some kudos. (Particularly because of the platinum medals in Gravitee, and the damned ragdoll and streamline impossible badges)

I find how people can have so different opinions on the difficulty of a badge or card.
I was playing the previous fold game and figured out all the tricks to win it (took about an hour) then when the badge/card came out I earned it in no time. However one of my friends has spend hours and hours and was unable to finish the easy level. Once I showed him my tricks he got it though.
I think for this game it comes down to figuring out different tricks to get through levels, and then being able to think outside of the box to use those tricks to pass harder levels. My hat’s off to the designer, The game is really innovative, and the levels are challenging.
arcane: When you say hidden, you mean you can only see your scores? do you mean only the game creator can see the scores? or do you mean that the scores are available to the game but no-one at all can see them?
Indie: Actually the example was Hexiom. But for what I was thinking about doing was a level designer for a side scroller game, where I think the size of the levels would be even at a minimum too large. Minimum screen size say 640-480 pixels with lets say 15 (20-20) tiles gives us 15^(32*24) which is pretty big.

I know that you can get the Kong Username through the apis that are available (I guess it pulls that from the chat window?)
And I also know that there is code to pull the high scores for a given player (using the above call as well I suspect) for the game that is being played.
What I am wondering has to do with the (Currently non-existent) Save Game API, or maybe someone can come up with a solution using existing apis, that I don’t see. Maybe there are other calls to the Kong API’s that let us get data from the Kong environment.
I was thinking about the level gen games. (ie. Hexiom) I would like to make it so users can create one level each, but have it available for everyone to play. In other words, with Hexiom, instead of msging people “Oh Try 349872239847239847238922978362 etc” When someone plays the game they would have a menu where they can try out levels generated by other players. (vote on them, leave comments.. etc) While the Creator of the game can have an ‘admin’ like access (maybe like in the statistics page) to manage the user created levels.
I’m thinking I would make a game, with say 10-20 levels, but a level editor. open it up to the Kong Public, let everyone play various levels, vote on what they like the most (one vote per game per user) then as a reward to the level creators I would pick some to add to the core game. (which would allow the winners to create new levels as well)
Maybe use the high score api to store a string (like Hexiom) which is the code for a level?
