Why that’ll work on a purely mathematical approach, each pattern will be very hard to give a difficulty value. A boss with low stats and a hard pattern can be 3x harder than a boss with high stats and a pattern that you can easily dodge.

That queen bee was HARD. I absolutely love E.V.O, and actually have another game in concept stage right now that’s highly influenced by it. It’s actually my most passionate project at the moment, but I don’t have the funds required to start it up right now.

Anyway, bosses in arcade mode is possible. I just have to make sure that it’s either always the same order of bosses, or the bosses have to be extremely balanced. Either way, it’s doable.

I’m also probably going to add an “Normal” and “Hardcore” difficulty selection for arcade, each with it’s own high score board. Normal gives you 3 lives, hardcore is just one.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated, and I’ll be sure to respond to all input.

I hear you. I only really have one level in mind that I want to do this with, and it really won’t interfere with gameplay because of the unique situation it’s presented in. I’ll definitely be careful with it though, to avoid making something that isn’t fun.

Haha, when you put it that way, of course not. I know what you mean by hating those levels. Star Fox 64, Slippy runs off like an idiot, you don’t beat the level the way you meant to. Trust me, if implemented it would be easier, the thing being protected wouldn’t be an idiot, and it would be more for story purposes than anything.

Topic: General Gaming / Pixel Purge 2

Hey everyone, it’s Porter, from Epic Shadow. I began development on Pixel Purge 2 awhile ago, but put it on the sideline to get another project off the ground to earn some money. That game (Daughters of Pytheus) Will be done in about a month, and I’ll be going back to Pixel Purge 2 until it’s done. I’ve read nearly every comment that’s ever been left on the original Pixel Purge, and have got a lot of great feedback. That being said, I want to ask some more specific questions and generate some proper discussion on the sequel.

1.) How do you feel about a campaign mode? The first game introduced a tiny tiny portion of the story, and was simply an arcade game, similar to Cell Warfare. I’ve been playing with the idea of having actual campaign missions, that further the story between the Pixels and the Invaders, and offer various forms of gameplay. Examples are,

-Destroy X of some enemy
-Defeat the boss
-Protect a certain person/ship from enemy fire while escaping an area
-Survive for X amount of time.
-Reach a certain location (think super long map, with a goal point at the end)

Those are just a few ideas, but as the developer of the game, I think these would be great additions.

2.) Bosses. How can you possibly go wrong? Any thoughts?

3.) Play in various ships, rather than just the starter ship from the first game. Each ship would upgrade in its own way, and perform uniquely.

That’s about it for now. I’ve got plenty more thoughts on the game, but I don’t want to spoil too much, just want to get some opinions on the major additions/changes.

Also, as a side note, Pixel Purge 2 will not be released under the Epic Shadow branding. I’ve formed a new branding under the name of Gemfruit, and the franchise will carry over to that name. I just want to make this apparent now, so that people don’t think the game was stolen when it’s uploaded under a new name. You can follow development of Pixel Purge 2 when I get back on it in about a month, at http://www.gemfruit.com/blog

Hope to get some great feedback from all of you, let me know what you think!

Topic: Kongregate / Hmm Yea or Nea new featured games?

I find design #1 to be horribly ugly. It’s a wall of text, and doesn’t pay much tribute to the recently badged. There’s enough space on this site already dedicated to top games, keep the featured games fresh and new, as that’s what most people want to see at first glance. Design #2 is stylized, shows all featured games, but changes things up a bit. I very much like #2, #1 is not even satisfactory, it’s plain horrible.
