Doesn’t work like that. Unless you wish to essentially be a pet, self-responsibility is always going to be an issue.

People who are born into such a system will never know of any other type of way to live except for being a ‘pet’.

Topic: Serious Discussion / France's ban on the Muslim Islamic 'burka' goes into effect today.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13031397

Anyone caught breaking the law will be liable to a fine of 150 euros (£133, $217) and a citizenship course.

People forcing women to wear the veil face a much larger fine and a prison sentence of up to two years.

What do you think of this? Should France have passes such a heinous law? Do you think the French police are going to go around pulling off the burka?

Do you think the $217 fine for the first offense is OK?

My reasoning for not giving black people money cause of slavery.

  1. Neither my ancestors, nor I, ever owned a slave in America.
  2. I am not a white man who owned slaves in colonial America.
  3. Black people owned slaves in America. They were the first in Virginia to own slaves too.
  4. Black people sold us slaves in Africa. They enslaved them, Americans just bought them and gave them better lifestyles.
  5. White people fought a war to free Black people.
  6. White people freed black people.
  7. If whites in general owe blacks for enslaving them, Blacks in general owe whites for freeing them

Your reasoning for wanting me to pay for slavery

  1. I am white.

See why your argument really doesn’t carry weight?

You’re asking for seperate but not equal justification, and it frankly isn’t right.

Now you know how the blacks feel. 8(

The problem is i do not trust other people ability to be personally responsible when lives are on the line

Never take your car onto a road with other drivers, then. Never board a plane. Never undergo surgery.

You trust your life to other people’s responsibility every day. It’s unavoidable. I know what you’re thinking: “All the more reason I don’t want people driving cars, flying planes or operating on patients while high.”

Lives are not on the line when someone is putting something into their own body in their own home. Lives are only on the line when they are doing drugs while performing an activity in which lives are actually on the line. And guess what? Just like with alcohol, something can be legal to consume while still being illegal to use during situations in which people’s lives are on the line.

There is no imaginable parallel universe in which people break laws about operating vehicles while under the influence of something, yet obey laws regarding any consumption of this substance. In other words, if someone is willing to break a law forbidding the use of LSD while driving, they are not going to obey a law forbidding the use of this substance at any time in the first place.

I strongly feel that one day technology will be able to control our lives to the point where protection is assured.
I guess we just see things differently.

I think people who are responsible ( Non drug users, non drinkers, non smokers ) should have more rights to control those who are not responsible, and I think technology will be that vector to achieve that goal.

Look around society, we are seeing that future form all around us.

No. Just. No.

If technology stops drugs, it will make many people rage.

You do not get it. Technology will force new generations to comply, and they will have never known drugs

People who are alive now will of course remember then and know them, but they will die off and a new generation of people will be alive, controlled by technology to protect them

I suspect the technology will be embedded in the bodies of these people at birth. I am dead serious

As for why Non drug users, non drinkers, non smokers should have more rights to control those who are not responsible, it takes a great effort to have NEVER drank, NEVER smokes, and NEVER use illegal drugs.

I myself have never drank a sip of alcohol, I have never taken a puff of any type of cigarette or cigar, and never have done any kind of illegal drug.

Some say that makes me odd, but in fact it makes my judgement and willpower SUPERIOR to those who make a bad choice in their lives and can NEVER take it back.

I am in this regard far ahead on the evolution scale by having never made a bad choice as shown above, and have displayed superior willpower by doing so. These traits will be passed on to my children hopefully via evolution.

It should be up to people like myself who are better humans to be able to control via any means and slap any law on people who are not as good as I am.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Data shows a significant increase in narcissism among Americans in the last 15 years.

http://news.discovery.com/human/narcissism-epidemic-college-students.html

“Narcissism has increased among Americans over the past 15 years, a joint study from San Diego State University (SDSU) and the University of South Alabama has concluded. The results suggest that the United States is poised to experience social problems as younger narcissists age and move into positions of power.

The study, led by SDSU psychologist Jean Twenge, sought to settle a hot debate in psychology over mixed results of studies examining the prevalence of narcissistic personality traits among tens of thousands of American college students. These traits include an unfounded sense of entitlement and overly high self-regard."

Wow, what a shock. I am totally shocked ( Not )

Does anyone thing this rise in self importance in Americans has anything to do with the internet, and the wars America has started?

What do you think is the reason for this finding in this study? Can anything be done about this, and do you think Europeans have noticed this for years before the study was published?

And lets talk about narcissism itself, a nice discussion.

“There is debate about the underlying causes of any increase in narcissism. Theories implicate parents, teachers and the media, which either allow or celebrate overly permissive attitudes toward individualism, and lead to an inflated and unwarranted sense of self-importance.”

Topic: Serious Discussion / Scary unemployment rate for african americans. Why?

My point is whites held back the development of blacks via slavery and segregation, while the entire time whites were getting all the breaks and advancing quickly.

I will put it in terms you can understand jhco50 – imagine if your favorite NASCAR driver was in a race, but was forced to not being the race for 100 laps. He was being held back by the officials simply because he was black.

How exactly is this driver going to get back in front without help?

I think it will be better if we go towards a socialist system, and Obama seems to be heading that way!! Many people make far too much money in this country that they do not deserve and it should go towards the poor

The people who make that money earned that money. It wasn’t handed to them, they used their education, ambition, and worked hard to get where they are. It is not up to a socialist government to take what they earned and give it to Joe Blow down the street who has done nothing with his life but sit on his butt and smoked dope.

Obama is on probation and he will be turned around during 2012 when he goes back to community organizing.

I am saying people should not be able to make excessive money at the cost of other human lives or living, everyone should have a equal amount of money given to them yearly to live on. No one needs 10 million dollars – it is excessive and most of that should go to people who are disadvantaged.

Without those rich people making money, there would be no jobs for the people to make a living.

The government will control all the jobs and assign people to work them. I see no reason to have private companies at all really, other than greedy profit in capitalism gone wild.

I applaud Obama taking over GM and firing the CEO’s.

Or, you can hire those people and train them on the job. Sooner or later we will have equal blacks and whites working on those jobs.

I strongly feel the white race owes black people A LOT due to slavery and racism that we forced upon them over the years.

If it is unequal for awhile, meaning we hire blacks over whites even if they cannot do the job yet – so be it.

We need to try to make up for our grave mistakes for many years with slavery and segregation. WE, as in all white people alive and dead, cause the situation the blacks are in now and we should make up for it.

If you want to call such an equation ‘god’ go ahead, but it’d be a far cry from any of the figureheads of past and present religions.

I would consider a mathematical equation that explains the entire universe to be ‘god’
