Speed Run: go evil, go Goblins, cast Greed immediately. If you get lucky (Hell Portal, Hall of Legends), you win. If not, you can soft reset and probably do that a few times in 5 minutes or less.

Without the gem bonus for faction coin collection, this is basically impossible without autoclicker: with the 2% chance to get a faction coin per click and 5 out of 6 faction coins worthless in this strategy you expect to need 50*6*20=6000 total clicks to unlock Greed, which works out to 20 clicks per second over a 5 minute period.

“I’ve played for a few hours and i’m nowhere near lvl40”

It takes around 25 or so battles. Less if you deliberately try to level up (by replaying early levels with battle traits at a high level, for example.)

When I got it, I had unlocked 7 hexagons, so it’s roughly halfway through the first hard badge.

Since you are looking for games to badge, I’ll bring up Hexad again, which should be quick to badge.

While it’s rating is a bit low, Papa Louie 3 is definitely the weakest of that platforming series. Mainly it’s an issue of depending too much on swimming mechanics, and that certain characters have fairly awkward attacks.

Also, all three games currently have ratings below the badge threshold; Papa Louie 1/2 are both around 3.63-3.64, so Papa Louie 3 having a rating of 3.49 isn’t that out of line.

It is definitely harder. Also, I think that it also has at least one bit that forces you to go offsite, so that might become a problem.

I’ve run into two places where you need to do offsite research (Eddy Wolvers and Olivier Riddle), unless you happen to know certain facts. Neither is a hard research problem.

I’m slowly going through mu-complex 2 (I’m maybe halfway through the sector 5 part). It’s definitely feels harder than the first chapter.

That’s probably a delibarate design choice, not a bug.

Okay, I know it’s a little below the usual ratings threshold, but I tossed up a quick medium badge in Kill the Plumber.

Yay!

It’s pretty fun/unique, but I stopped short of badging the lost levels or acquiring stars. Enjoy!

Boo! Put up a second badge, even if it’s a medium.

There’s your problem; you (and possibly others) seem to think that I think that the difficulty in getting 144 stars comes from getting all 3 stars. I don’t: the difficulty in getting 144 stars is BEATING ALL 48 LEVELS, and I think that is a hard by itself (and the levels I’ve mentioned are good examples why I think beating 48 levels is a hard).

Example?

Have you even played the game? Looking at your API scores, it sure seems like you haven’t.

But to give examples, Level 37 (the first lost level with two spinies dodging fireballs), 45 (the last survival battle), 47 (awkward platform dodging with a Big Boo.)

The whole game took less than an hour, and there wasn’t a single level I didn’t get 3 stars on the first time I completed it. I’m not sure why Thok was having such trouble.

There are multiple levels where one can easily spend tens or hundreds of lives trying to execute the desired strategy, even if you know exactly what to do. Sadly, the game doesn’t have a death tracker to actually verify this.

API has been added by DEV. Game is rising towards 3.7 rating.

For Greg: high score and stars stats are updated on loading the game. The level stat is only updated on beating a level, but you just need to replay the highest level you’ve already beaten to update the stat (so for instance, if you’ve beaten all 48 levels, you need to beat level 48 again to get the correct stat.)

Having actually earned all 144 stars, beating 48 levels is definitely a hard. Beating 36 levels is at least a challenging medium. Numbers of levels completed is too highly correlated to number of plumbers killed/stars collected to treat them too differently; there are many levels where you will lose before the timer on the third star runs out. It feels like a two badge game (a hard for lost levels completion or 144 stars, and a medium for an earlier checkpoint.)

Also, since somebody will mention the achievements: 15/15 achievements is a touch grindy (mainly because you need to kill 100 plumbers, and there are only 48 levels.) Individual achievements as easy/medium badge are possible.

No API = no badges!

Not quite correct. No API means somebody has to talk to the developer to convince them to add API for it to get badges. That’s probably not going to happen with Get Home (since it’s a five year old game), but it’s likely to happen to Kill the Plumber (which was put up this week by a dev who has previously dealt with API issues and badges.)

Hexad seems to have everything one would want in a badgeable game: a rating of 4.1 and working API to for most relevant stats (levels, colors, stars). Is there a reason it isn’t on the current list of games to be badged?

Edit: Oh. It doesn’t seem to remember previous progress. Still that’s something worth bugging the dev about.

If we keep complaining, can we get recently played, recommended games and playlist games increased to five games?

Keep the Spider from the Fly Badge?

(Maybe somebody has a better version of this, but a riff off of “Said the Spider to the Fly” seems workable.)

Does Epic Boss Fighter 2 report the “Beat a boss while naked” achievement as a stat? Because that would be a fun extra badge, even if it would be an easy, and you could call it something like Bare Boss Beatdown Badge.

Edit: The game calls it the Naked Gun achievement, which wouldn’t be a bad name either.

Yay for the higher limit for game files.

Boo for making the recently played games list so short.

Add a badge = loads more players = more community = game longevity and longer support by developers = more fun for the hardcore flash-MMO addicts like myself who want an online game for old computer hardware.

I’m glad to see you eager for an MMO, but what’s more likely is that people will play for a week or so to get the badges and then disappear. If the MMO really is dying, a badge won’t help that much.

Rise of Champions seems a fairly standard MMO for me (I had apparently played to level 8 a while back and forgotten about it completely). I feel “meh” about badges on it; I don’t remember how linear the tutorial portion of the game is, which might drop it below “meh”.

Topic: Kongregate / [Split Test] Wide Feature Roll!

If you put the trending pod at the bottom of the page, it definitely won’t get used.

Edit: which to me is a bit of a shame, since the network trending pod is probably more effective at telling me about the most recent badges then the wide feature roll (the feature roll requires an admin to update it, and while the trending pod just requires me to see Greg playing a game or my fellow badgaholics earning a new badge.)

Topic: Kongregate / Another quick Q about "Hot New Games"

I suspect the cut off for Hot New Games is a 3.5 rating (which the top 6 had). Front page is roughly “What are recent games that Greg thinks should be on the front page, with one spot periodically taken by the MMO that currently needs beta testing”. (At least that used to be the case, I don’t know if that has changed.)

If we’re giving badges to highly rated recent idle games, Break the Limits has to get in line behind Tangerine Tycoon and Puzzle Fuzz: Idle (and the latter actually has game play, although it’s more efficient to offline mode it.)
