Chart says you can do medium altar with 30 lvl 3 agonies; this is not the case.

Lvl 3 agony does 120 per turn and stacks, but you have to use another pot on the 3rd turn to keep the chain going. So here’s the damage:

120 × 2
240 × 2
360 × 2 × 27
360 × 3

Total: 21240
Med altar has 25k HP and armor. 21k damage is not enough to kill it.

I tried 30 green agony pots on a medium altar. No dice.

Exactly. There’s no good reason why they should be saleable to other players.

Treasures and jewels don’t do anything; the only way to get someone to buy them is to scam them.

Even if you do manage to sell it, you’ll get say 15% extra diamonds or crystals while the other person paid 100%.

In the Russian version of the game, perfect items used to be unsaleable in player shops, so this is something that the developer(s) have implemented in the past; I assume they would be able to do it again—exclusively for treasures.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Heavens] First Turn Advantage

First turn is a huge advantage in PvP; it pretty much takes the gameplay out of the game. I’ve heard it said that “whoever gets the first turn also gets the last turn.”

If the game ends in 1 turn, then one player got 100% of the turns.
2 turns = 50%
3 turns = 66%
4 turns = 50%
5 turns = 60%

I propose a solution: have a minigame to determine who gets the first turn.
This way, first turn will become less luck based, and the outcome of the entire battle will also become less luck based by extension.

The minigame is simple. Give both players the same board, and see who can match the most tiles with one swap. On this board, no new tiles fall to replace the old ones, so you can’t rely on chance. Move assist is turned off; no suggestions.

If both players match the same number of tiles, give them a new board. The game goes on until one player matches more tiles. The winner gets first turn. :)

My intent is to minimize the impact of dumb luck and also to make matching relevant to the game again (currently matching is nearly pointless; we can KO using just skills), but at the end of the day this is just a suggestion.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Heavens] Halloween event!

I’m in the same boat as Ysan. I was spending all my diamonds, potions and free time for the last few days hunting pumpkin monsters. Then at 11:46 PM on Wednesday (~3h before scheduled maintenance), Kongregate’s servers crashed and I was disconnected from the Heavens game client.

Up until that time I had hunted quite a few pumpkins; I had two parts to go. Now, as a collector and completionist, I’m honestly conflicted about whether to continue playing the game.

I’m not saying it’s the developers’ fault, but after all that determined grinding, I can’t help but feel cheated.

Shunran, his point isn’t that matching isn’t rewarded, his point is that your combat performance doesn’t scale in line with how good you actually are at the game. Only in the first two levels and in tournaments does your skill at matching really matter.

I wholeheartedly agree that damage should be changed to apply per skull or something like that.

And I suppose you just hit the nail on the head. It is widely known that buying packs is stupid(look at how many people are looking forward to the cards being release in vault). Now look at awakening. 45 out of 90 cards vying for that one spot per pack. Yes it is true that buying pack is undesirable, and awakening more so compared to others. Why? :D Because awakening pack can be gotten for free “partially”.

Again you can just say it is speculation on my side, but Joltrek Skiff being sh!t and rare is not a coincident.

As for buying packs no matter how sh!tty, I suppose Dev are testing out how OP legendary must be before they can motivate players to spam wb on packs rather the sniping rares off from vault.

Also claiming Joltrek Skiff as an “error” is unjustified. 2hp=fail has been the meta standard since gasp standard pack aka beginning of tyrant. So what are the chances of that being an honest mistake? :P

This is actually a pretty good post. He’s saying that the devs made a ton of trash cards on purpose and also made half of the cards rare on purpose.

Ruffyl is saying: “Joltrek Skiff? What the hell is this !@#$? Buying a pack shouldn’t be a gamble!”
ohnonooh is saying: “Gambling is the point of buying a pack. This isn’t an error, it’s conscious game design.”

You’re welcome; thanks for the amusing posts.

Plays =! players; for example I’m a single player but I’ve opened the game client at least 300 times. Since I have a dynamic IP, I probably count as ~50 unique visitors as well. Also, revenue =! profit. After that you still have to consider how the money will get split between the workforce.

On the other hand, I believe these numbers only account for Kongregate’s side—there are also players on Facebook. Synapse Games also develops War Metal and Redshift, which we don’t have numbers for. I still don’t think they drive Maseratis unless they’re leased.

The spending comparison for faction members vs non faction members is misleading; of course being in a faction can encourage spending, but after a certain point in the game (level 15 maybe) it just doesn’t make sense not to be in a faction.

If you look at Tyrant’s numbers in this talk given by Emily Greer at GDC 2012, I think it’s pretty clear that Tyrant devs don’t pull in 6 digits a month. That said, I doubt they’re too poor for a test server. Whether they see the value of having one is a different story.

As a player I advocate player testing on a larger scale, but the fact that devs have never rebalanced cards after they went live suggests to me that card balance may not be a huge priority for them.

Anyway, /signed.

Topic: General Tyrant Discussion / A Question for the WBer's out there...

There are tons of Tyrant players who are veterans of other games of chance; everything from flip-a-coin card games and roll-a-20-sided-die to poker. Many of them agree that the Tyrant RNG is broken.

I used to argue “no, you guys don’t understand probability; this stuff happens all the time.” Then I fought a battle where it was down to my Tremor Hunter vs some guy’s Mirror Wall. So obviously I won that game, right?
My Tremor Hunter got jammed every single turn for the rest of the match. It did not attack for something like 25 turns in a row. The game ended in a draw.

There must be something up with the code, because there are definitely times when the RNG (or semi-RNG, whatever) gets stuck and keeps reusing a result. Good luck getting the devs to admit it though.

Anyway, enjoy your Guardian Walkers. LOL

Okay, I hadn’t taken the 1 minimum damage into account, but I had thought (from things like this) that it was possible to go below 15 and 35 by failing to get the ‘speed bonus’.

If this exists at all I have failed to see it happen in thousands of faction battles, nor can I think of a realistic scenario in which it would happen.

There is a chance that I’m wrong and it exists, but even if it does, the likelihood of a 10 or 30 score is so miniscule that you have to admit it would make more sense to use 16 and 36 in your equations.

I think they all know what you’re saying is true; Tyrant players just want to disagree with each other all the time.

For the record I do not recommend using these cards… Invasion Coordinator and Cannon Walker really jack up your structure support :(

Where did you get the idea I wanted to change your mind? I think Cybertron is trash. It’s part of what makes winning with him hilarious.

Edit: I’m not sure I’ve ever received 30 or 10 points, but they are the minimum possible values as far as I’ve understood the scoring formulae. Even if the actual minimum values are higher, it doesn’t significantly affect the result – in reality, you’re not likely to consistently score that low anyway.

16 and 36 are the minimum possible values. 10 points only applies for stalls and surrenders, otherwise it’s 15 or 35 plus 1 minimum damage you must deal to the commander on the turn you finish the match.

I dispute both of these claims. He played a Mirror Wall (5 HP) to block my fear. 4+5 = 9 HP, same as Lord Alexander. Why do you think the Gore Crawler (4 delay) he played on his 3rd turn is online?

I submit an album where you can see that I beat Ajax and Dementia
