The problem seemed to have arisen when Dev’s friend was accused of being an alt. I feel the best solution for future GiTD’s is to simply restrict any and all voting to Kong-only. While it’s perfectly valid to promote your game or any other game for the sake of publicity, turning a competition based on making a great game quickly into a popularity contest doesn’t really promote the competitive programming nature that I felt when I joined in. I feel as though this competition is challenging programmers to work quickly to make an interactive and fun game, and that voting should only be based on how well the programmer did. Turning it into a popularity contest might promote improper entries in the future, like a guy using the bare minimum stencyl tools to make a not-a-real-game game (like a game that just prints “Hello world!” onto the screen), and then tells his 50000 facebook friends to vote for him.

TL;DR Only the innermost members of the Kong-cult should be allowed to vote. Ostracize outsiders.

I’m really not sure why the bullets won’t show up. It’s been a recurring problem since I started programming the game. I’m using Flixel, and for some reason the draw() function seems to get overridden for the bullets. The entire thing is kinda over my head, I’m still new to the flash gaming scene xD

I really like all your games, I can’t choose between them >.< I’ll give you each half a point! Use it wisely :D

I agree with you two, the game is addicting. And if there are only 2 lead programmers, that explains the whole “lack of posts”.

And popular opinion was exactly the point I was trying to make. The devs have helped us quite a bit by making every pack “free” (either with shards or conquest tokens), and that dark’s reasoning, based on the gross income the devs make from this game, is asking for a lot from them, especially after all they’ve given us in the past few months. I feel that the vault is one of the few places that devs can still earn some money.

Moreover, a lot of the ratings were pre-death phase era, when tyrant was new the game was really nice and they didn’t change it after their initial rating lol.

Just a couple of things:
1. I’m not an alt. I didn’t start playing yesterday, you really should check the date people started playing before throwing baseless accusations.
2. Their artwork is not stolen. They may or may not have based some art off of other things as shown in the quad walker post, but every artwork is digitally different from anything else you can find.
3. Making WoW free was sarcasm. You have to pay after lvl 20. The side games might have some free features, but they’re supported by the money generated from the main.
4. The devs don’t spend all day lounging poolside in Hawaii drinking kiwi juice. Programming isn’t easy.
5. If tyrant supposedly sucks now, why do you keep playing? Why does everyone keep playing? Because it doesn’t.
6. You’re contradicting yourself. If the devs wanted to make so much money, why did they get rid of stam refills?

And if you’re saying this is all useless raging, I’m just pointing out that you’re ideas are not applicable in this game. The devs are not billionaires, and cannot afford to make everything free. If they wanted to sap out all the cash they could, they wouldn’t have introduced shards or conquest tokens. Your raging about how the devs are “f***ing rich” and should make everything free is similar to people’s raging about how Bill Gates is “f**ing rich” and should make Windows free. My point in this entire thing is that you’re asking for WAYYYY too much from the devs, and you’re accusations about how loaded they are doesn’t mean they can afford to implement a measure that would essentially deprecate their income considerably. If given the choice, would you rather receive $200 a day every day or $100? I’m not saying the OP has a bad idea, it certainly is a fair idea. I’m saying that YOUR reasoning is impolite and unfair to the devs.

You’re right! Because it’s so cheap to maintain servers and licences, and it’s so easy to program a card game and make artwork, the devs are clearly getting truckloads of money for doing absolutely nothing! While we’re at it, let’s make World of Warcraft Free, and MS Office 2013 free, and maybe the Windows 8 OS free too!

You’re not being very considerate to the devs, they spend so much time and money just to keep this game working. It’s practically their career, their main source of income. If the game was free, then where would they be? Plus, it IS free to play, there are people who have never spent a single dime on this game. Just life TF2, you can play for free and you can buy things if you want. It’s difficult to make a game, but to make a MMOTCG with 4.3 stars on Kong is flat out herculean. The devs deserve every cent they make.

Topic: Game Programming / Selecting Sprites


For a game I’m making, I want to implement a mechanic so someone can click on a sprite and edit certain pieces of info. If you have ever played any of the Bloons TD games, it’s like that, where you click on the sprite and you get a menu at the bottom, where you can edit information about it, such as buying upgrades or “selling” the sprite.

How can one accomplish this? I’m using FlashDevelop and Flixel right now. I believe FlxExtendedSprites are clickable, but here are some questions I have about how to make the clicky part work properly:

-How can I initiate a menu thing at the bottom of the screen when clicking the sprite (should I just “playstate.add(menuthingy)” it in?)

-How can I make the menu disappear when the mouse clicks somewhere else? (should I just “playstate.remove(menuthingy)” it?)

-How can I make it so I can only change the angle of the sprite that is currently selected? (The sprites I want to select are lasers and mirrors, and I want to make it so I can edit only one of their angles at a time so that every single one isn’t being edited at once).

-I have FlxGroups for my lasers and mirrors, should I combine them into one big FlxGroup to make the editing of one sprite at a time easier?

Thanks for the replies! I tried redownloading Flex and making a flex folder in documents and using that, but it still gives the same error. Should I try using an older version of Flex? It seems like Flex is the central problem behind all this, so I’m hoping an older version will have what the newer version doesn’t (it’s a longshot, I’m not sure what else to do at this point xD )

Sorry, one other thing I just remembered that might have led to the problem:

I started installing FD late at night, and Flex was taking too long so I cancelled out of it and just installed FD. I installed Flex earlier today, and placed the files into my FD folder, then made another folder within the FD folder, and placed the extracted Flex stuff in there. Could my problem be that I installed Flex later and possibly did something wrong when trying to make another folder full of the stuff? After I uninstalled FD (Which, as stated above, might have failed) and reinstalled it, I installed Flex straight from the FD installation, but not sure if it did anything because my old folder was still in the FD files.

I recently downloaded FlashDevelop, and I’m following the flashdevelopmenttutorial to try to learn how to use it. When I tried to run the program, I got the following error:

Exception: Could not locate lib\fcsh.jar in Flex SDK.

(I’m guessing this isn’t a programming error)

I’ve been searching online for answers, the only thing I could find was to uninstall and reinstall FD (which I did, but based on how my program files was still there and how the installation folder was exactly how I left it before uninstallation, I’m guessing it didn’t work as planned). Other than that, I have not been able to figure out what the problem is. I’ve searched through the files, and I’ve found two files named fcsh under the lib folder (not sure if they’re .jar though). I’ve tried copying them, moving them elsewhere, and so forth, but to no avail.

How can I fix this?

(Sorry for remaking a thread that was made a while ago, I found it on google, but the one I found was locked and had a link to another thread about the same topic, but that thread was deleted.)

The true origins of the shield are unclear. Many believe that Darkfang Thwackers do drop it, however that is unconfirmed, as the number of darkfang shields in the game can be counted on your hands. Also believed is that it’s a rare drop from red party boxes in t3 Gremlin strata. Nobody knows for sure, though, people on the main forums are trying to create search parties and organize mineral deposits to make strata 5 a gremlin strata.

Wellllllllll, let’s see.

Jotun’s signature aspect is that annoying freeze. It basically screws you over and prevents your cards from doing anything. The Apparations deal with that by intercepting the freezes and evading them. Jotun’s total siege is less than average. More specifically, Jotun has a siege all 2 action card and a siege 1 from a flux blaster, and a quick siege 2 from the laser. Provided one deals with the laser quickly, there’s no need to worry about those structures dying too quickly. There’s a decent chance for 1 support carrier, and a similarly small chance for another siege all 2 action or a siege 4 full power. By piling up the epicenters, one gets a quick protect and eventually a nice rally all rights 2 with a helpful weaken 3. Necro’s disease halts that godforsaken heal all 2 and can stun the solar powerhouses and utopia beacons, if they care to show up. Then, there is a practically negligible amount of antiair in the entire raid. Those hoverpods can sustain themselves.

So, the deck necessary to beat Jotun should have: a nice disease unit (the good old toxic corrupter can swipe and disease, except it’s not very strong), plenty of flying (support carriers might work here, except they’re pretty darn wimpy) and plenty of protect. Evade helps too, and intercepting blows to help save the more important cards would be nice (like, the apparation taking freeze hits from the Arkryne so it can get started with its strike all 1). Weakening helps, with the epicenters weaken 3 and draco’s weaken all, so perhaps a blood wall in substitution would be more reasonable.

There’s no perfect deck for this raid, and the lack of accessibility of many cards is a huge burden on us all, but these are some ways to up the chances of victory using more reasonable card choices (because getting 10 utopia beacons will take about 3 years).

Pulsars receive too much hate over the tiny fact that they don’t do much knockback unless they expand…

Pulsars are EXTREMELY helpful. I’ve been using the Kilowatt for a while now and I absolutely cannot live without it. It’s absolutely gold in both JK and Rawrmy runs, for it’s good to secure narrow doors/bridges and shocking enemies. As was mentioned, it’s nice against turrets as well. Even if it doesn’t expand, it still does about 75% damage, and if you need to knock close-by monsters away, shieldbumping is perfectly effective. The shock is helpful too. One can always go for the Supernova series if they prefer normal damage over elemental. The 3 shots per clip and the explosive capabilities can cover a wide range and do a considerable amount of damage. If you really don’t think that it’s helpful since you have to be 4.5 squares away from your target, that’s understandable. Nevertheless, the Pulsar is extremely good and I would not discourage anyone from getting it.

Next, you have to find an alchemy machine. They’re kinda bluish. In Haven, there’s one located at the bottom right, up some stairs. Go there, and select your recipe. If you have all the required materials, then click transmute and you’ll craft the item.

I’m happy for the new expansion and all, but…

It appears that with each new update, the previous updates are rendered halfway useless.

For example, take the Behemoth raid. The whole point of the raid was to develop a deck capable of defeating a strong 15 card enemy deck, while using either a high health commander with few abilities, or a low health useful commander and utilizing siphon. Also, you had to use plenty of evade or heal.

Now, however, you can just use Emanuel, who will refresh himself after being shocked, and can use most combat decks, provided there’s a bit of heal/evade.. Most siphon cards aren’t generally very strong (except maybe the Ram, but that’s another example of how new updates ruin previous challenges), and now you can completely ignore them and throw out an AR spam or the such without having to worry about the shock cards recharging and having to face 10 shocks in a single battle.

Another raid example, Gore Typhon. GT has some pretty high health assault units, and the commander has a heal all BT 2. So, you need to pack in quite a punch to override the healing. Now, though, you can simply just use a disease, and voila! They aren’t nearly as big of a threat. GT naturally lacks Cleanse, for the Homeworld Expansion was WAYYY after GT’s release, so the enemy can never get rid of the disease.

The new cards really seem to make life too easy when raiding. It ruins the challenge, and the fun. I understand that those of us who dislike it can simply avoid using those techniques, but we would face a disadvantage against those who do use them and have a better defensive deck/tourney deck.

Refresh and disease are the main problems with this expansion, so I’d like to offer a few suggestions to balance it out a little:

1. Make Refresh an Activation, and give it a 50% chance of activating.
2. Give Disease a 50% chance of working when a unit inflicts damage on another.

As we all know, thanks to our friend the Dozer Tank, the 50% chance tends to happen a lot, so these effects won’t nerf the new skills completely, but would still help with balance.

Thank you for listening to my rant, I hope that most of you feel similarly and that some balancing issues will be addressed in the future.
