Goblin bleed-barrage, PvE build.
Heroes: upgraded Londo, upgraded Gromsh and either Nybbas with his signature items for big nuke or Gul’ras for occasional hailstorms and even more VP increase.
Elites: twilight spiderriders (+possible bombrunners, they are too imba not to use >_< ).
Cores: goblin conspirers.
Reserves: orc waylayers.

Main idea: bleed proc does huge 27×3 melee dmg, spider bite does 35×3 life damage which compensates normally low damage of goblin/orc builds.
Items: mass R1 swords, mass R4 armors, fill other items as you like.
Can get you through 5.3 easily, dunno about later.
Strong against: Fears (2 unbreakable heroes, 1 “rally” active), spellcasters (damage protection, spellcasters don’t have a lot of melee defence)
Weak against: Flying and armored dudes.

UNTESTED:
Air-water-fire spellcasters.
Flamedancers, ice demons, occultists as support.

Heroes – Drakarot (+10 dmg to all!), Gul’ras and probably Brakarash or Dark focus (R5 BWT hero).

Items:
Generic artifacts from story, optional: some hellfire sparks (+3 fire dmg).
Mass +3 air damage instruments.
2-3 Ancestor’s armors.

Token cost:
(optional) 300-600 BWT
110 R3 boss tokens
~450 yellow R4 tokens (you’ll get plenty if you’ll try to farm ice daggers for infantry).
Few weeks of ice demons farm (you’ll get some R5 tokens in the process though)
100+ yellow R2 tokens (you’ll most likely have plenty of leftovers in R2)
Formation: 3-3-7-2
Army strength: ~10k
Mission requirements: 5.3 completed

Strength: Different damage types, only spellcasters in build (many procs are ignored), splash damage from fire rain and hailstorm.
Weaknesses: Fear (as most of the spellcasters builds :/ ), water damage to elites, mass weakness/damage prevention.
To get rid of some of these you can use one bombrunner to disable one-two enemy units/give 10 water damage resistance to your army.

I use ‘f’ for nexus, ‘q’ and ‘e’ for first two inventory slots (normally holy water in slot 1 and healing potion in slot 2).
Also ‘z’ and ‘c’ for screen turning and ‘x’ to reset, ‘r’ for offcentered/centered switching and ‘1’ and ‘2’ for map zoom.
But I think each player can choose whichever buttons he likes so no point to put any exact build in guide.

Noone is saying that longswords are bad. But they are R1 weapon, no weapon progression in PvE till ice daggers and bihanders (4.5.2 drop and R5 tokens item) :P

The thing is that out of 6 boostable stats (you don’t want to make max hp/mp temporary increase as it will cause innumerable bugs):

  • Dex and spd buffs are covered by warrior (okay, spd now only to self, but it’s good as having spd boosted in the middle of lava bridge can be annoying at the least).
  • Vit and att are covered by pally.

which leaves wis and def. So if you want to make a support class, mpregen+armor boost is the best unused ability you can think of.
P.S. Monk/warlock/barbarian/summoner new classes idea is flying in the air really, each month or so someone makes new post about it ^^

How about +armor buff and +mpregen buff?
Monks are supposed to use light armor if any and still have nice armor class :) .
Like up to +30(40 if no usable armor for monk) armor to self/15 to others, +18 mpregen rate, duration/radius as pally, manacost – about full chars mana pool (will cause same problems as with assassins when you cannot use T4 abilities at lvl1 but who cares).
Not abusable ‘cause you don’t get immediate mana boost to spam it.
Problem is that monk has to have bare-handed combat which does not fit in current char system.

UPD added Tomb of the ancients and Forbidden jungle. To go: ocean trench and manor.

@zonotos yup, I tested, apparently they either added some amount of movement-prediction to him or I haven’t noticed that before. If so, viable tactics would be circling + slight amount of sidestepping never to move in the same direction for long time.

@master_matcher why ghost kings aren’t chest guards? They do have chest in castle :/ .

Well, ahem, I’m kinda sick atm, so too lazy to update analyzer.
First version counted only “Attack” and “Defend” procs and its results you can see few posts above.
The researches are for both sides as I asked many ppl to send me some logs when I tested my prog, but bulk of logs are mine and I’m playing AoE :) .

Nothing to show yet, I plan on testing in the future

  • fear procs as they seem to have low proc rate and its needed to know if AoE fear build is relevant.
  • “Unbreakable” heroes self-rally as it seem have lower chance to proc than the regular unit self-rally
  • “Minionslayer” procs from swords and from units just to compare different builds damage before actually farming one of them.
    and so on.

Okay, tried new Oryx now. Seems like now phases are going in random order, apart from the very first and the last one. I saw at least 2 new phases + the ending one. Gonna try and eat all types of shots to know all bullets damage :) .

As for suggestions I want to see more weapons for melee guys between R1 and ice daggers.
Really, having to use either R1 swords or anti-minion swords before the very end of R4 isn’t that good use of weapon slot.

Random ideas for a set of weak-to-decent weapons from R2 to R4:

  • Sell maces as one that you get from the quest (with 8-12 base melee dmg proc)
  • Some low elemental damage-dealing weaps to get past melee resistance a bit (some variations on ancestor’s banner in R4) – poison knife (life DoT), firebranded sword(fire weak splashy damage, probably DoT), earth hammer (weak “hammerblow” variation – 1 round bane), etc.
  • Some race-specific weaps like bone pikes/rusted swords for reanimated, tridents for demons, heavy maces for orcs and throwing spears for goblins (ranged damage yay).
    *Something that changes attack damagetype, dunno if it can be implemented with current game mechanics.
