Jim Conklin is very different from Henry and Wilson, in that he does not romanticize war at all. He also is very quiet, and overall not particularly social, even during his own death.

Wilson starts out as a loudmouth character filled with biased opinions at the beginning of the book. He later becomes more giving and mature, after going through many of the trials of war.
