Topic: Serious Discussion / Is Sexting That Big of a Deal?

OP, your mate is in possession of child pornography. That should be all there is to say. However, the person who your friend was sexting should receive the same charges too. (Although society/police caring about NOT men having child pornography, not likely aye.)

Wikipedia is a credible source, nevertheless it should not be used as a source. Wikipedia gets its information from other sources; so cite those, not Wikipedia.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Drug war.. Is it worth your time. Yes or no and why

Drunk driving often becomes drunk crashing. (Which you just made up to make an unnecessary difference, by the way)

Why is it unneccessary? If someone can drive drunk without affecting anyone, doesn’t he deserve to be able to do so? That was the basic concept of liberty as Jaume defined it.

Driving drunk has a much higher incidence of crashes, etc.; thus, it should not be legal for anyone.

Furthermore, the government categorising who can and cannot drive while intoxicated by alcohol is a burden on the taxpayers.

So you would argue that people doing hard drugs are not a threat to public safety?

Yes and no. They should be free to consume drugs in their own privacy. However, once they affect others harshly as a consequence of their intoxication/drugs then they should be arrested, prosecuted, etc. Drugs ought to be regulated like alcohol.

The incidence of crashes is much higher when one is intoxicated by alcohol. Swerving and driving like a twat as most drunks do, even if they don’t crash, can affect others. Drunk driving is a threat to public safety. I said government should not intervene in how an individual wishes to treat themselves, but I never said government should not intervene in how an individual treats others.

Yet you would have government interfere in other areas. You have an odd idea of what government should interfere with and what it should stay out of and it all is against the prevailing winds,

Well, yes; and so would you. Unless you believe a government should not have to protect its people and that security should be left to the individual?

A government should have no say in what an individual does to themselves, whether it is suicide or drugs or something else, a government should not order an individual how to live if it does not affect anyone else. This is the basic concept of liberty, I thought you believed in it?

Also, if we ban condoms we’ll save even more lives! Oh, and if we ban recreational sex and only allow heterosexual couples to have sex for the means of procreation, we’ll be saving even more lives.

Topic: Serious Discussion / SOCIALISM: the pros & cons

Some socialist policies ≠ socialism.

And let’s remember that nearly all of the western world, and the rest of the world, had socialised healthcare in place in the 20th century; most of those countries were and are capitalist. The U.S. catching up with the rest of the world in the 21st does not make it socialist. Moreover, many countries have taxation which helps unequal poverty, by having the rich pay significantly more; the U.S. has this to an extent, but the extent is not near as much as, e.g., France (or most other countries) with their Robin Hood tax.

Topic: Serious Discussion / SOCIALISM: the pros & cons

If America had socialism Wall Street would not exist. JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, etc., would not essentially sponsor politics. Those companies would not exist in a socialist society. Obama is not a socialist. How some people do not comprehend that bemuses me. People are so easily influenced by the media, it’s somewhat saddening.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Feminism and Sexual Equality

Eh, you used ad hominem repetitively—since your very first reply and each once since—and are unwilling to have a civil discussion. What I quoted in quotation marks above was your article, yet you refuse to acknowledge that and claim that I failed to read the article.

And much of your post is off-topic. I simply said initially that Islam is sexist and that Islamic feminism will and is struggling to rise. That’s all I said.

Then you went on with, as an example, “Just because not a lot of progress has been made – relatively speaking – doesn’t mean nothing’s happening”. I never said nothing was happening. I reiterate, I merely said that Islam is sexist and feminism for them is struggling to rise. You essentially agreed with me there: not a lot of progress is being made. I never said nothing was happening. We agree on most things, but for some reason you seem to go off on a tangent.

Yes, Europe is extremely Islamophobic… that’s correct. I agree. But the thing is, you’re saying that as if I disagree. I don’t. You’re going off-topic from a post wherein I said Islam is sexist and feminism there will struggle to rise. Again, I’m a Spaniard living in New Zealand; ergo, when I lived in Spain, I witnessed the constant Islamophobia. So I agree with you. I’m not sure why you’re eager to continue an argument where there isn’t one and where we agree on most of what is being said; much of what you said is in no relation to what I have said at all, I have not even commented on much of what is not in relation to what I initially said (in your post with the diagram) yet you assume I am in disagreement with you.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Creation vs. Evolution

Darkscanner, when people are arguing a subject and all human-known facts point toward only one of the two sides being correct, it is inevitable that the side without facts backing it will resort to topic diversion and ultimately ad hominem.

Also, let’s remember all that gravity is “just a theory” as well. I can thus conclude for the creationist side that gravity is not real as the Bible doesn’t talk about it.

I can’t remember a specific date but I do remember that people first started becoming interested in the whole post per thread ratio once we were close to 100, then we passed it and we were there for a few weeks. But then heaps of trolls/newbies came and made shitty threads (which is what usually happens, to be honest we’ve had a good run in the last month), lowering the ratio.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Non-Human based Mechanical Implants?

I’m not sure what about Stephen Hawking implied to you that he was a modern marvel of medical or mechanical science, Jaume?

I don’t believe he is. I am simply saying that regarding what OP is saying, that of course it is possible if Stephen Hawking exists. But I don’t believe an extra limb is more advanced than Hawking as a whole, which again, makes it even more possible as an extra limb requires less technology than Hawking. So yes, it is possible, what OP is suggesting.
