Topic: Serious Discussion / Do you think charging people a tax on distance driven is a good thing?

I read a story that a proposal is going around to charge a tax based on the amount a car is driven. For example if you drive 10 miles, each mile is charged a 3 cent tax or something like that. A special computer on the car will monitor the amount driven and automatically charge the person driving via upload from the computer.

I am sure this could work in the future, but the key is to charge a tax on those who choose to use older cars to avoid this new tax, to keep it fair. This could be a huge source of revenue that should go directly towards education and research into green technology – in other words, the zero emission car with no gas needed.

Here is a March story I found about this for those who are interested. You’re free to click it or not!

It can’t be a hypothetical, you’re making claims about events that already happened.

It is hypothetical, I am saying if the peace movement never put political pressure on the government and military the military would have been free to devastate Vietnam and win the war, using nukes and the like.
We will never know because the peace people got what they wanted

Yes, but technology always evolves and I am confident that in the future it will be impossible to use a vehicle without the riders being secured properly. Note I say ‘riders’, because I think all vehicles will be automated in the future, not drivable by humans due to human error deaths

“Future technology” and “I’m totes confident” are not proofs.

The forum guidelines I read before posting here says nothing about proof being required in order to participate, I am just casually discussing my feelings and ideas on stuff

Camera tech would not work well for something that is so close to the clothes of the person. There are some cars around now, that will sound an alarm if there is a weight on the seat equivalent to a person, the seatbelt is not fastened and the car is moving faster than 5mph. The alarm does not shut up until one of the three variables is removed.

However, that does not guarantee the person is actually wearing the seatbelt. Ultimately, you have to rely on the personal responsibility of the individual, to ensure they are safe for the other individuals in the car.

You cannot think of any future technology that could prevent someone from using a car without being properly secured? I can dream up of several ways to enforce it

So the military was going to win before we pulled out? Citation needed.

I feel the military was held back due to stateside politics. ( the peace movement )

What you feel is irrelevant to what is. Please prove your claims.

Vanguarde is that troll, right?

I am just discussing what I think about the vietnam war, thats all. You’re welcome to ask for proof, but no proof exists in the hypothetical

Would this work?

Then what’s the effing point? Are you supposed to hit the burglar over the head with your gun?

The point is to ensure the guns are not dangerous and can kill a person.

How about making all ammo for the general population ‘blanks’ like in the movies?

Why don’t they make cars that cannot start or run if the seatbelt is not on? I am sure we can use technology to enforce the law and protect the occupants that 90% of the population cannot defeat. We will always have those who can hack the car to bypass it I guess though.

But for the masses who do not do that, it will work.

Silly and wasteful. A rider could always buckle their seatbelt behind them.

Various technology could be used to ensure the belt is on the person, like a camera like the Xbox Kinect

Topic: Serious Discussion / Proposal to change voting laws, they are unfair now.

I agree that much needs to be worked out, but I find the reality of letting people who vote based just on a political TV attack ad decide the future of the country to be a highly disturbing prospect.

What is wrong with buying bottled water? It is a HUGE industry, and makes tons of profit for the companies involved. I wish I were in the industry.

As for the environment, well we will not live forever. :")
