Topic: Games / GTA IV Roll Call!

I’m waiting for it to come out on PC. The previous GTA’s are much better on the PC and have much better replay value due to the user mods and additions.

Topic: Serious Discussion / The Sad Homeless...

I’ve been homeless (really) as a result of my mother’s actions and I can tell you with 100% certainty that the only people who can’t help being homeless are kids of homeless people. The kids are the only ones that should be helped the rest of them put themselves there or have done nothing to remove themselves from that situation. Don’t help the homeless because they refuse to help themselves. If they really wanted to get out of homelessness they could easily get a job at a fast food restaurant and save up money to eventually find somewhere to stay. If a 16 year old or an illegal immigrant can find a job then so to can a homeless person.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Creative threatens community user for creating custom drivers

I think that it basically comes down to morality. Did what Daniel do hurt anyone/anything? Really No. If anything, he helped revive peoples interest in a product that had obvious faults.

Asking for donations I think can be a gray line issue but I feel that there is no harm in asking if you follow through with what you say. Given his history and obvious contribution in the community it is more than likely he was going to follow through with his promise to help the community by using the money to purchase Creative products to test his modded software before he released it. Which is what Creative should have done with most of their software.

Plenty of modders ask for donations and plenty of people give them money. It is the individual’s perogative to donate and should be left as such. I am a part of plenty of communities that mod software and hardware and I think that the modders should be allowed to ask for donations because they are putting time and effort into a product that will potentially benefit many. If the originator of the software has already made their money off the initial software, what is wrong with the end user purchasing mods or updates that will further enhance their net capabilities. Its like some one saying it is wrong to add performance parts to a car because the factory didn’t put them there and that we shouldn’t pay a third party to install these performance parts.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Creative threatens community user for creating custom drivers

I have posted in that Creative forum this response:

I too registered just to post here. I own a XFi platinum and have had minor problems here and there with it. That I’m not complaining about. What I am complaining about is the fact that the Creative’s website is purposefully set up in such a manner as to confuse and detour consumers with technical questions. In addition, they won’t accept phone calls to answer questions that could be solved by a proffessional within a few minutes. They’d rather have it done through email where they take 15+ hours to respond to you and won’t even give you help if your product isn’t under warranty. No other company I’ve dealt with has treated me this way. I am an experienced computer builder and I had a quick question as to why my new Mobo is not recognizing the sound card. I get the response that my card is no longer under warranty so they won’t help me unless I’m willing to pay $12.99 for telephone support. So I then have to search through user forums for a few hours just to find the solution to my problem. Given my previous experience and this brazen post from Creative to a member who is only really helping them, not hurting them, I will no longer purchase anything Creative. I will also strongly advise to all my friends, family and people I see in the stores eyeballing Creative products to never purchase anything Creative because of their poor software design, poor customer support and their ridiculous arrogance. In addition I will post this in all forums I am a member of.

Creative; you’ve put the final nail in your coffin.

My support goes to Daniel Kawakami and I hope he continues to help those of us who are stuck with Creative’s inferior products until we have the money to purchase a substitute.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Love

I think it is possible to find the “one” at an early age but its occurrence is rare and even at that you may not recognize they’re the one right away. For example, I met my wife when we were in the 8th grade (13 years old) and I accidently went down the “friend” route with her. My original intentions were to date her but I’m sure you guys can relate to how easy it is to mess that one up. We were best friends through out high school and we both had plenty of girlfriends/boyfriends respectively but we never crossed the dating bridge with each other. We kinda had a falling out soon after we graduated and then I went into the Marines. After boot camp I got this call from her out of the blue, asking to meet. When we met, she told me she loved me (like mates, not friends) and I realized at that instance she was the one for me. I soon after dumped my girlfriend I had at the time and began dating my future wife. We’ve been married almost 2 years, dated for 3 years and were friends for approximately 6 years.

So i definitely believe it is possible to find the one at an early age but it isn’t common.

Love is not an infatuation or a sexual erge. It is a relationship that two people have with each other that they both are willing to work at. I don’t feel that most teenagers know what love is because of the work involved (myself at the time included). Anyone who has had a roomate knows how hard it is to live with anybody. Now imagine sharing everything with them and still wanting to be with them. When you begin to live with the person and you share finances and personal space with them and you still want to be with them after a year then I think that is more closely what would describe love.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Is it possible to perform a truly selfless task?

Ok I’ll go to my original example of the Staff Sergeant that went into a building to save his troops despite the fact that he had been shot himself. He didn’t die and he was quoted as saying he just did it because it was the right thing to do. No mention of not being able to bare the thought of his troops dying as motivation. He was very humble too saying he was just doing his job. That’s selfless. I’ll see if I can find the story.

The Marine that took a grenade is here “http://www.cdimaria.com/marine_hero.htm”

After reading that story, can anyone seriously say that taking that grenade wasn’t a selfless act?

Someone should create a program that uses your amount of friends/badges/and posts and equates a number to be the approximate value of your fame.

Life sucks unless you make it what you want it to be. We all come into this world with nothing but our birthday suit and parent(s). If you had a hard life you will inherently be proud of your struggle. At the time it isn’t fun to struggle but after its been done you are proud for overcoming and you now have a good story.

I don’t think you’d be 76. There’s at least 76 people more famous than you and I.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Life in General

To be serious: The meaning/purpose of life is …...............drumroll….............. Life. The fact that life is a rare occurrence in the scheme of things is what gives it meaning. We live because it is better (for most of us) to live a painful life than to just die. Dying is easy and because we chose the hard road we (life) are unique. Everything else in the known universe takes the path of least resistance. The point of struggling is to allow the next generation the opportunity to struggle.

Topic: Off-topic / The Introduction Thread

Name: Dustin (If you ask I’ll tell you my last name but nobody will ever know my middle name)

Age: 23 and 5/6

Location: I live in the OC (unfortunatley)

Gaming History: I have always chose to waste away my free time by playing games. It all started with that damn Zelda. I was too poor to afford very many video games so I spent ALOT of time at my friends’ houses. Once I joined th Marine Corps I had enough money to build my own computer and then I spent all my free time playing Doom, Oblivion, GTA4 and any C&C esque game I could get my hands on. I no longer play console games due to school and a job. I was looking for a place to play games online at work and I started on Miniclip but eventually got bored of their simplistic games. After a few hit and miss sites I found Kong and haven’t left since.
