Kongregate Letter Avatar Week
Can someone make me one with the symbol for Pi?
And with 3.1415926535… etc. written underneath it. (It’s fine if you can only fit 4 digits or so. :D)
EDIT: Yes, irrelevant to my username/current avatar, but I think it’d be cool. :3

Multiple Games at Once
Survival Lab’s pretty new, and its game ID is 60594.
No… Survival Lab is pretty old, it just recently got badges.

Improving the Badges and Contests system
Badges (and Challenges) should only be given to games no longer qualified for the contests.
Yay, people agree with my idea. _
I pretty much agree with every point you’ve made. Badges and Challenges give advantages to other games for the contests. D:
Obviously, if 50 were listed, only 10 or however many there is now would still win a prize, I doubt Kong could fork out insane cash like that.

Yes please.
I’m also all for that Llama game impossible; never seen a game growing its rating so much in time ;D
Oh by the way, I agree with Rubix’s post as well; actually I wanted to answer something similar and then read his answer xD
Just checking it out now. I noticed it’s by Jindo… If it’s anything like Greg Can Jump!, I say they both should get Imps. ;)

About the tuning down of badges' difficulty
Rubix makes a good point, if I’m interpreting him correctly. If the Impossible being added didn’t change the rating at all, there’s absolutely no reason (to me) why you guys shouldn’t go back and add harder badges after the main traffic has already gone through, or after the competitions, etc. are over.
Oh, and… Survival Lab, DJManiax… We’re on a roll. Amberial Axis Impossible, anyone? ;)

DJManiax Impossible badge: What do you think?
All DJ Maniax has is this annoying, high pitched whiny crap that only people who fawn over anime actually like*.
Have you even played all the songs? No, didn’t think so. “Love The World” is a weird soft rock kind of thing, “Anticipate” was almost heavy metal/hardcore-ish at some points of the song and “You Are A Joke” is basically just guitar riffs…
As for DJM vs. SCGMD, I’d have to say this wins for me. Less lag, better accuracy (from my personal experiences), different ranks for hitting notes, two different play styles and 20 songs in one game, plus the “Clear Points” and “Crazy Stars” aspects. The 5 note areas on keyboard make for interesting charts too. :3

My best before badges was 99,683. Oh well, I like this game, so I’ll just stick at it! :D
EDIT: 76 Clear Points sounds good for me. Sure, it’d piss people off. I’d probably be one of said people, but it’d be a challenge, and we haven’t had anything like that for a while. :D
EDIT2: My comment is one of the “Top Rated” ones for DJManiax! Yay! xD

I remember being amazingly shocked by MoneySeize’s initial rating, I don’t think it was ever over 4 stars, even when featured without badges. I love it, and I was shocked that the highest I ever saw it with was ~3.80, even without the badges. Still, it’s a difficult game, which is fun, but causes other people to rate it down. :(

About the tuning down of badges' difficulty
Just beat Isabel on Crazy on DJManiax. That, IMO, would’ve been a nice Hard Badge. I got 79% my first try, which is a B, and the chart is a little repetitive, so an extra Hard for an A would definitely be plausible, IMO. (Wasn’t expecting the Medium to be awarded for a Crazy beat, thanks for that, Greg! xD)
And I agree with Baba, I’d rather my game be played to the fullest extent by those that enjoy it, or really want the badges, than just have a few little bits tried out.
EDIT: Just passed it with 85.1% which is an A+, so I really don’t see that as too Hard a requirement. Anyone willing to put in a little practice could get an A on that song.
EDIT2: I think it’s >80% for an A, and >85% for an A+.
EDIT3: 90%, S Rank. I know I can Crazy Star this song, but I always lose my fingering at some point or another. _ My most common mistake is forgetting the middle row exists. Dx

I agree with Rubix, to be honest. There’s no reason any of us would go out and tell everyone, and even if the noobs did complain, you could just add something in the FAQ and explain that it’s so the game isn’t affected harshly.
Or just add hardcore badges after the game has lost it’s main revenue and ratings don’t matter much any more, but that’d probably be quite annoying. xD

I’ve just unlocked Isabel on Crazy… I <3 this chart.
But yeah, this Hard Badge is pretty easy if you have the dedication to put 20 minutes in and perfect 2 songs. D:

Just on the off chance I’m saved by some miracle. I intentionally beat Payton_Hayes, just to give me that little extra give. Sure, he might get it back, but I’m just trying to hedge my bets, rather than give up completely. I had City unlocked, I have the hard badge, but my laptop has done something with the .SOL. :( And I’m not getting it again, far too much effort for me right now, my trackpad’s playing up a lot.

About the tuning down of badges' difficulty
I’ve not tried DJManiax properly ‘till now, and I unlocked Cheetahmen Glitch Mix, and I’m enjoying it. I’m not used to using 5 keys, so I’m trying mouse mode, which is difficult with a trackpad, but this song is still quite addictive and fun to play.
Also, yes, I was mistaken, I thought he meant on the display. Silly me. Dx
EDIT: Yeah, I’m not getting crazy stars yet, I’ve only earned 1, but this is pretty easy. Even with a trackpad, I’m able to hit 90%+ on songs I’ve never played before. And you can’t really complain about the timing, there’s a lot of leniency there, IMO.

About the tuning down of badges' difficulty
I think Taro might be getting a bit mis-understood here. He doesn’t seem bothered about money, he wants his game to have more difficult badges, and he’s already seen the effect of the first set. Seems he just wants people to have an extra motive to explore his game fully.
A game I felt suffered from being badly badged was Arkandian Crusade. Sure, I hate grinding, and that game does a lot of that for the Hard Badge, but there were a LOT of features in that game. I’m sure many people didn’t even bother to upgrade their house, or buy furniture for it. I know I didn’t, but I did note that the feature was there. That game could’ve been explored a lot more, but instead people are just trying to grind through it to get the badges as quick as possible.
- Survival Lab is a really good game, whose score has gradually risen with time. That’s been on the backburner for a while; I’m going to commit to planning something in it next week, but I’m not sure what yet.
That made my day, Greg. :D
In addition to my initial “back catalogue” idea on the first page, I think it might be beneficial to have different ratings to show how the games have been perceived before and after badges (I know this has already been said.), and whatnot. Or a little block of text under the game that says “Placed # in Weekly Competition, dd/mm/yy – dd/mm/yy.” And the same for monthly. And also, if it’s in the Top x amount of games, “Currently rated # overall.”
To me, adding badges, thus extra traffic once the games are out of competitions is a good idea, ‘cause then the competition’s just seem more fair. I remember, a while back, a game I really liked was in first for a monthly competition, then ArmorGames released a game a few days from the end, and it was Featured and won by a landslide. To me, that was just cheating, they’re well known, got featured and beat everyone out with a sneaky post time.
Unlocking badges actually sounds like a good idea to me, despite it’s obvious cons. It’d be impossible to keep a secret, but even just having an feature such as a bit of text that says “This badge is extremely difficult, we recommend you are level # before attempting.” might work well.
And thanks for commenting, Greg. It’s good to see how you guys think and work. There isn’t really a spread in the badges of late, to me. Everything’s just long or easy. A few devilishly difficult badges here and there won’t hurt that much, will they? ;)
EDIT:
I didn’t like the control scheme. The keys for the notes should be placed horizontally next to each other, the way your fingers are, not vertically.
I’m sure the SCGMD games used vertical keys.
EDIT2: What Rubix said about rhythm games. I’m no “pro” at StepMania, but I can pass some charts I consider difficult, including the easier chart for Zaghurim’s Maid Of Fire, and some other things I was quite proud of finally achieving. Rhythm games take a LOT of practice. I’m not one of the best, I know, but people can’t expect to learn these things in a few days.
And I know I’m not really an “elite gamer” right now, but I still enjoy a challenge a considerable amount, and I just think the badges lately have been grindy or trivial, for the most part. :(

I know you can’t see the whole score, but would I really cheat for a shitty score slightly over 3k? I mean, c’mon, not my fault the developer didn’t account for the score being hidden behind text.
Just thought I should at least post a score, since I’m not gonna get City unlocked again. D: Stupid .SOL file. >_>

I got 5k+ in Country, randomly killing stuff. Wish I posted that. Dx
Posting guides kinda ruins the fun, guys. I mean, yeah, I thanked the guy that posted the first one, but where’s the competition in everyone trying to get lucky using the same strategy?
Plus people like me that are restricted to a laptop are getting screwed over. D:

All you have to do is pick up the vehicles and hover over your nest and drop at opportune times. Makes sure as few enemies as possible manage to exit their vehicle and you have a few relaxed levels, once the helicopters and military start showing up in force, it’s pretty annoying again.
Since the city lvl is purely based on smack-throw-swing and generally be wild with your mouse (as I imagined the original country lvl to be), it’s not my thing and I won’t bother to give it a serious effort. I managed 7k or so in country for the badge just now and 4k or so in city on my first try (and unless I see some easy opportunity in the sheet I won’t bother to play it again, man, do I hate these types of non-brainer mouse-overloaded go-as-fast-as-you-can-with-yer-hand games). Not enough to pass I’d figure, so didn’t even bother to screenshot any of them.
Most people in this tournament should be able to get the badge at least though, once you do the ‘vehicles thing’, the first 8 lvls are very easy, 9 and 10, not so much.
That’s it! I remembered a tactic about shielding the nest with cars, I just couldn’t remember how to do it exactly. I might still be in this! xD
EDIT: No, I suck at this. Dx

About the tuning down of badges' difficulty
I wanna clarify that I don’t necessarily blame Greg and raw, but the general community. I wrote a blog about this around a year ago. >_< Everyone was complaining so hard about the remotely difficult badges. When anyone asked for a badge to try in Chat, I’d always suggest something like Fold or Hexiom. (Okay, Fold has one of the easier Imps.) I’ve never achieved the Impossible Badge for Hexiom, but it and Fold are games I STILL enjoy playing. Streamline was, IMHO, a LOT of fun, and others that I can’t remember too. But all my favourite hard/impossible badges were getting slandered by all the “dizz izsz weyyyy 2 hrd, 1/7” comments, and losing their ratings and credibility.
The only real solution I can think of is making a “back catalogue” of past games worth badging, and only giving them badges once they’re out of the competitions they’re entered in, so the developer can win prizes with less biased ratings. Afterwards, they’ll get fairly difficult, fun badges, and a steady stream of ad revenue from these, while the rating is lowered after it matters.

About the tuning down of badges' difficulty
To be honest, I couldn’t agree with Danaroth more. Most of the time now, I’m not getting badges because they’re either too easy/boring or too long. MMO badges are the most annoying, they take forever and often an actual financial loss to boost your progress, which kinda sucks.
I was really disappointed that Survival Lab never got an Impossible for a fairly huge score. Something like 150k+ requires most of the game to be beaten without taking a hit. Or even a Hard for beating the boss.
When I first joined, I got the concept of badges wrong. And it still seems right in my head. (That probably doesn’t make sense. >_<) I LOVED Buried Treasure Week, ‘cause, to me, that’s what badges are for. Everyone knows about and plays the popular games anyway, but the littler known games getting badges is so much better (in my opinion), because people then get to learn about new games they normally wouldn’t play, that can actually be VERY fun.
I only rated games for points once, and I only did 11, to get to the the next level, but some of the games in the 11 Most Recent were actually of a really high standard and fun to play. They might not have had API, but it seems a lot of original little games are getting over-looked without a well-known developer. In place, we have sequel after sequel after sequel, long, boring MMOs, really simple, easy badges, or long, boring grind-fests. ._.

I’m not trying to throw an accusation around here or anything, but the score in your end game screen doesn’t match your high scores tab. I assume you opened the tab early, or didn’t check it and refresh the tab. I doubt you’d hack for such a low score, or edit your screenshot for the sake of <100 points that’ll still hold you with the lowest posted score.
Just though I should point it out, I think it’s legit, but it’d probably help if you could re-do it or something so the guys could be sure.
EDIT: You ninja’d me with an updated screenshot that looks fine anyway.
