Topic: Game Programming / AS3Wiki.com - A Flash Developers Resource

Hello,

I’ve been working on setting up a Wiki, not strictly limited to the language itself, but the flash platform as a whole.

At this moment, it is highly lacking content, the single most important thing to make this project successful. Contributions are more than welcome and encouraged, no permission is needed to modify a page, but advanced permissions will be required for file uploads, page deletion, protected pages, as well as a few back-end things and front-end CSS.

I’ve tried my best to get a general structure to the site, which may end up changing with time, and is very much subject to the creators of wiki contetr in itself.

The site is running PMWiki, so far I have found this incredibly flexible and easy to use in comparison to many other wiki software I have found.

So please, comment on the site, help me make a site, and help contribute so we can have not only a better resource for not only our beginners to AS3, but also our more advanced users.

qwerber, a tie is a win of sorts, although not the best outcome, it is better than losing, so yes, true, but for me just rambling, I think I covered it fairly well.

Yes Qwerber.

On the random/non-random discussion:

Yes, random bots have their strengths for their chance in winning X of Y times, but, they will never consistently win or lose. Out of 3 rounds (as stated) are your chances higher or lower on losing? A “perfect” algorithmic bot would always crush a random bot. By ‘predicting’ future possible moves, the bot could always cope with the random one. But, as a matter of truth, for every possible configuration, there is always a ‘perfect’ move, if more than one, things are symmetrical, so either of the ‘perfect’ moves is the ‘right’ move. Chose any of them (randomness) or a pre-specified one, it does not matter.

All in all, the ‘perfect, algorithmic’ bot would always win, regardless of the other bots choices. But, on the other hand, the computation power required for this is massive if wished to be done in a reasonable time frame.

Qwerber, lets make a 10 X 10 X [Number of bots] for an expedition round. Would be neat.

HensHouse: Consider this, AI is for the sake of figuring things out on it’s own, we can do everything with just the field, it needs to gain awareness of its surroundings and act upon them. I’m making a clone of the wrapper that can push a TON of bots onto one field, of any size, just to see how far I can get some of these bots to go before breaking.

Qwerber, just give us the map, don’t even tell us what number we are ;)

Well, My bot no longer runs into itself and I have a rather good debugging system going on. Tomorrow I work on a wide-pass so collisions with the other snake are less likely and I have some ideas for choking the other snake out quicker. Night all.
