Topic: The Arts / Great synth deal!

Pffff, I don’t want to give a snap judgement, but I just can’t help it… they should keep the $30 price. 16 voices? Yes, that’s authentic vintage for sure, hahaha. The sound is, hmmm, yes, vintage 80s/90s kinda style and can’t come close to any contemporary vst. They overstate left and right with what’s no longer just advertising exaggeration, but pure lies. A wee bit more humility and this thing could actually get some good compassion buys. Anyone, however, who ever opened up Nexus, for example, which is a sample based vst instrument, couldn’t really appreciate this sonik thing anymore, I’m afraid.
So, hmmm…$30 is a decent deal. They better stick to it or go no further than double that.

@burntfires22 – sure thing, go ahead. That’s totally what they’re for! ;)

@Jindo – THANK YOU! 8) …you bet I’ll keep it up.

That’s a neat idea, regardless of the hits, of course. Might be cool to do some sort of edit. Thanks!

HAaaaahhhh, that’s a cute style!
A little tip from the classic arts: Try to make the hands as big as they would need to be to cover the whole face of the character with their fingers stretched out. The fingers are roughly 40% of the hand’s total length, consider that, too!

Very entertaining sketch, though! I didn’t mind the texture that much, actually. I think it gives it an extra honest touch. :o)

Ah, hehe, nice to know someone cares, THANK YOU! But nah, I’ve been a bit too busy and chose to do other things in the meantime, but I will most likely still continue. It’s always nice to do an innocent little doodle.

Again, thanks for asking and reminding me! :o)

Ride on Pete, I was gonna suggest making specific studies, too. Sometimes there are things that I want to understand, specific subjects, such as (very early on) eyes, but later wrinkles, not just of skin, but of clothing, fabric, substances. The idea is to understand all that goes into such formations, why the substance forms these folds and gravity, pressure, draping, all of that. At some other times I would study the bouncing of light, how the direct light gets modified by the color of one object or the ground and bounces back on the main object, for example. General lighting is a fantastic and exciting exercise and challenge.
While these studies don’t demand any specific subject and are technical exercises, the rest of the creative mind gets a pretty good break without going numb. Slowly but surly it creeps back into your consciousness and takes over again.

After you’ve done all this for a while, using nearly exclusively real objects and observations out of real life, you can see, if you find some good examples of other artists, how they went about it. It can be motivating, but it can backfire, too. Essentially and eventually you’ll have to find your own “voice”, so to say. We all perceive things in a unique way, if only for the reason that not one of us can stand at the same spot at the same time to see the same thing- just in case the metaphysical component isn’t enough. 8}

Anyway, good luck and I’m looking forward to what you might want to share of your new found excitement! )))

1. pisser (for the graphic quality of it and curious depth in possible interpretation: A cracked heart cracks ones whole world)
2. GoGoogleIt (It’s just kinda cute and sincere in its naivety.)
3. Oboe Passion (really, this somehow confuses me not the least because the hand seems somehow the wrong way around? Looks like it’s meant to be the right arm, while the hand looks like the palm should be upward, but the thumbs location would make it the left hand?! The face isn’t really all that flattering either, hehe, but there’s a place for everything, I admit. Anyway, you so often show so much more strength, but it’s probably a distracting time anyway.) 8}

Overall, another great collection again. I just wished it was more!!! Guys, Gals, don’t hold back!

Thanks guys- oh, that’s been a late reaction of mine, sorry about that- well, looks like for a moment people seem to have liked the lil’ guy, too, but as per usual, of the 200 something people, who care to vote, a stunning few can’t wait to vote it down and I won’t ever understand the joy they have in destroying stuff. I couldn’t care less, really, but it still amazes me. What’s the gain? Want me to go away? That’ll happen one day anyway, so no worries there. But I’d recommend to these trolls to just ram their heads into walls, if they care to hurt themselves and thereby avoid hurting others! Something tells me their mothers might not object, haha.

Anyway, thanks again, I’ve had some fun with that blue guy. It’s really an interesting exercise to do such lighting/shading. I should do more of those, too. Very relaxing.

You know, acknowledging feedback is the only really important thing. Explanations should never really be necessary, but- when requested- are a very nice courtesy. I’m trying to listen to and collect reactions, regardless of their origin, to just learn about how people react, unless they’re just trying to be trolls, of course, hehe. There’s not much to learn from those, but even they may accidentally utter an interesting thing, haha.

Anyway, your Squid looks very cute and entertaining in an 80’s kind of sense. Naive but pretty, with a hint of sophistication in the skin itself, which gets sweetly embellished by the glowing goodness, hihihi, very cute indeed. Don’t even suggest you were hoping for realism, but embrace your style the way it comes out. Once you accept it and yourself for what it is and where you are right now, growing comes naturally.

Thanks OB, by the way! The detail is far from perfect, but I take it anyway, hahaha, thank you very much! I’m using these great little opportunities with the WLAC to just have some quick fun with my painter. I so want to look into flash or html5 and see, if I can whip up a decent painter in there, too.

Anyway, good going everyone, again! I’m waiting for more submissions on the next theme…

pisser1234 (for the beauty of it!)
GraphicDesignC (for the originality)
OboePassion (for faithfulness to subject)

I think they’re all great, of course!

Topic: The Arts / The Arts Forum complaint...

If people were not so groomed to be competitive- as one would come to expect on a game site- it would be more clear that those little compos like the WLAC are merely a source of inspiration and should get anyone to participate, not to win, but to share ideas about a specific topic. Normally I would actually agree, because especially art shouldn’t really be a competition field. On the Artrage forum, back in the day, we’ve had a subforum called “art projects”, where ideas/topics would be threads and people could keep positing there stuff there, knowing that it’s not a competition, but inspired by other entries to improve oneself.

Anyway, it’s healthy for everyone to relax about the whole “winning” thing. If you have fun doing what you enjoy doing, you’ve won already. If you find additional appreciation out there, it surly is encouraging, but it should not be the source of your motivation ever!

I think he’s doing something very inappropriate and personal there and a very fire like emission marks the climax of his hentai experience?! :o}}}

Thanks, Deriaz! I just do some experimenting and tried to do a different kind of style every now and then, you know. Points taken, though! Thanks for the feedback! 8}
I personally found it interesting to do something a bit smoother, more cartoony, but still shaded, you know. To do hair is pretty hard anyway, but to come up with some good styles is even trickier and I never really got around to studying that much. I’m sure you’ll get to see a few more such experiments of mine in the future, haha. :o}

Topic: The Arts / Truthful Graphite (Realistic black And White Group)

Just give it an appropriate name so that the precious “Realism” won’t be used up…
Something like:
True Grays
Silver Truth
XeroxManualis (LOL)
Stainless Steelistics
Photomonotony (Although this could be misleading)

Anyway, not a bad idea, although you may not want to count on me there… not my thing either.
