Violence does not mean blood & gore. It never has been. Example: Tom & Jerry is a violent TV show, but you don’t see blood & gore in the show at all (at least that I remember) The dev didn’t like the fact the people were beating each other and he wanted to make changes to have them stop that.

You can actually see the violence in Tom and Jerry. You can’t see shit in a game like Mardek.

Did you play the game wrong? You are supposed to slash people with swords, amongst doing other violent things to them…

Yeah you see a line hit another line. Totally violent.

Can you link the blog post? I’d be interested in reading it.

I would still call a game with any sort of fighting “violent”, but not excessively so. Even in a turn-based RPG, you can still have violence.

http://www.alorafane.com/blog/80 Calling turn based games “violent” would be like saying Donald Trump would be a good president.

The reboot of MARDEK is actually on Google Play now, but you don’t want to see it. Trust me.

Why shouldn’t we see it? Is it trash?

I downloaded taming dreams and played the first two chapters, and it made me super sad. I get that the Dev had some philosophical revelation about how violent games are evil or something, but the reboot is just plain bad. I suppose we should be happy he didn’t take down the originals.

If that’s the reason he didn’t make Mardek 4 then that’s an incredibly moronic reason. Mardek isn’t even violent.

I’m actually not kidding, sadly. Go look at his blog some time. Taming Dreams is supposedly about fighting your inner demons or some hogwash which is essentially a long convoluted preach about how the things you’re “fighting” aren’t actual external enemies you’re killing but animated figments of your imagination you’re “taming.” The story and anything resembling good mechanics get completely lost in the preach. And I say this a someone who’s generally in favor of some degree of social consciousness in games. It’s just bad.

Games are just meant to be games. After finding a random forum post of his it’s pretty much just shown that he’s plain ridiculous.

EDIT: Found the blog post now.

He really is stupid. You can’t call a turn based RPG violent. Especially if there’s no blood or gore. The only reason games like Final Fantasy get a Teen rating from the ESRB is because of the story.

I don’t know. I don’t like tower defense games that much because they get too grindy.

Not exactly, but it’s very different from MARDEK. Like, VERY different.

You can google ‘taming dreams’.

I tried to convince him it was a terrible idea on a thread on Kongregate. Of course he never listened. That looks awful simply due to the fact it isn’t Mardek. He should have just kept going with it since people would have actually paid for Mardek on Steam or other gaming services.

“Series” might not be appropriate for something that only has 2 installments so far, but the Incursion games come to mind. So does Mushroom Madness. I just have a thing for games with meaningful/rewarding upgrade grinds and endurance achievements.

Also, un-ironically, I’ll support the Papa’s games. They’re certainly repetitive, but there’s also a certain cuteness to them, and they have a ton of stuff to unlock and practice. There are worse ways to waste my time!

Whoa. Somebody else who actually loves the Papa games.

It requires Game Completion, aka when you beat Wave 20, but it actually shows the current wave you’re at(like: If you beat Wave 18, you have to attempt Wave 19. But for some awkward reason, the badge progression shows Wave 19), making it obtainable at Wave 19, even if that’s not the final wave of the game.

Doesn’t sound like an actual issue to me.

I have all the shiny Kongpanions. It was kinda lame I couldn’t use that one promo at all. The one where you can get a kongpanion you missed. I haven’t missed any!

Did you get anything extra for having all shinies? I got bonus points just for having all of them but I’m missing some shinies from the early days.

Originally posted by Balbanes:

I would have all of them but of the two that aren’t shiny, at least one of them (Artie I believe) I only got 5 of the 7 total BotD. That would have been fine, but the last BotD I had to submit a screenshot for it and by the time it was finally checked and registered, it was already Monday and past that week, so I couldn’t get shiny for it. >:( For that Cuteness Overload quest that you could get a Kongpanion you missed, I asked about something similar where it would let you shiny a non-shiny Kongpanion, but they said it wasn’t feasible for a reason I can’t remember. :’(

Maybe they could have people get Challenges for some games that are extremely good or “well polished”. It could be a word play on “well polished” and getting all challenges in the “Well Polished Quest” could “Polish” a non-shiny Konpanion. :D

You should have reported that happened and they would have probably given you the shiny.

good music that relates to the game’s sense and isn’t awful
creepy-eerie music in a creepy-eerie setting is considered good music

That’s an even better argument for it to be renamed or gone since a music tag should only be on an actual music game.

Originally posted by Mafefe_Classic:

As we know, Halloween is a satanist holiday where satanists trick parents into letting their children go outside at night so they can be kidnapped for satanic rituals. Even if they aren’t kidnapped, satanists have been known to give out poisoned candy and apples with razor blades in them.

So, should halloween be banned?

What a boring troll thread. Thought this would actually be serious. :/

The C/B Analysis of pot is pretty easy to construct, even by us “laymen.” This is by no means exhaustive… it’s just a sketch.

COST OF UNREGULATED LEGALIZATION

• Increased exposure to known and unknown health risk
• Potential “gateway” effect to more severe drugs (a “normalization” of casual drug use)
• Public comfort impact due to people smoking pot in public areas
• More hippies

BENEFITS OF UNREGULATED LEGALIZATION
• Reduced impact on law enforcement
• Potential health benefits
• Opportunity for public trials
• Economic activity
• Reduction in criminal activity
• Reduction in economic activity to criminal organizations

COSTS OF REGULATED LEGALIZATION
• Greater access by illegitimate users
• Development of national and state standards
• Resolution of cross-jurisdiction infractions

BENEFITS OF REGULATED LEGALIZATION
• Administrative management over public usage

COSTS OF CRIMINALIZATION
• Total global annihilation

BENEFITS OF CRIMINALIZATION
• Total global annihilation

There’s no potential risk of people who spoke weed doing harder drugs. That’s just a bad argument made up by the anti crowd.

There are radical Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Episcopalians, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Athiests and agnostics.

There are radical men, women, and children. Some of them are Black, White, Brown, Yellow, Green, Purple, or Orange.

Some radicals are writers, doctors, lawyers, politicians, students, or unemployed.

So… vegans are like Nazis because some of them are radicals? That’s what you’re getting at?

Well that’s a new one.

I used to be for legalization of it, though only for medical usages. Over time I changed my mind. I am against legalizing it altogether.

There’s especially no reason to be against it for medical reasons.

I disagree with society glorifying stupidity and laziness, just like you disagree with how society glorifies violence for violence.

I knew someone that smoked marijuana. However he did it because of work, it calmed his nerves. Since he had a valid reason, and he was working, I was actually pretty fine with that.
And I agree with Karma Kool with the punishment thing. Instead of sending them to jail, just use fines to deal with it.

Just sounds like you bought into propaganda since that doesn’t happen.

Nothing wrong with marijuana and would provide a nice revenue from taxation.

Might as well look for some old school games.

First game: Don’t remember anything about it really. Just I think it was a puzzle game and you played as a knight in a castle. Maybe every level was a castle. Don’t remember what kind of enemies there were. Just remember the one “sprite” or whatever was a knight. Think of games that would work on old school computers from computer labs. These same computers also had Zork on them so probably from around the same era.

Second game. Some maze shooting game with shapes I believe. Similar graphics to that one vector game that’s on Kongregate.

Nobody knows?

Topic: General Gaming / New MARDEK RPG

Originally posted by Pseudolonewolf:

I’ve been planning to use Patreon, once I get the game up and running.

If it seems that people want the old MARDEK over the new one, that’s probably largely because they’re deciding between possibly hundreds of hours of memories seen through rose-tinted glasses, and a three-minute teaser trailer (and possibly a bunch of descriptions, if they’ve read them). There’s just no contest there; of course people are going to prefer what they’re familiar with.

However, innovation is all about transcending the familiar by trying something new. It doesn’t have the power of memories on its side, but it’s often the case that it’s pleasantly surprising once people finally have the chance to give it a go.

All that’s largely irrelevant though because the new game is essentially finished at this point. (Or rather, the engine and first two episodes are.)

I’m sure that’s what EA said when they made Mass Effect 3.
