Whyzz is another hacker – 47 kills with sniper, no aim. I figured out that if you google “hack ballistic” it’s an exe you can install that has everything. There has to be a quick update to remedy this useless, right?

Swords and Potions 2? And you seriously won’t admit it’s because they are a paying client? All those games are awful. Simple cash generators.

Topic: Card Monsters / Nerfed Staff of Power?

I’m just pissed because I have yet to get one epic after probably 8 or 10 master boosters, and that was the one thing I had that put me on more of a level playing field with these ridiculous decks that have nothing BUT epic cards. I’ll go ahead and throw my monitor out the window before I spend $40 on one virtual card that has absolutely no chance of returning the investment.

It’s ‘armor’ for magic only. having a 10 value wall makes it pretty much useless unless you are just starting out.

Topic: Card Monsters / Nerfed Staff of Power?

Just noticed today that my Staff of Power which was 5 crystals, 30 magic damage is now 4 crystals, 20 magic damage and 10 wall?

This isn’t a rare-worthy card anymore. Wall is basically worthless to me. Add replace wall with stealth or something, or better yet, put it back the way it was.

Totally screwed my setup.

Topic: Kongregate / Dawnguard promotion error?

Just took the ‘quiz’… and the last question asks “What happens if you take an arrow to the knee?” I got the answer wrong, and then it said “You die.”

This can’t be right… the famous quote comes from a guard in Whiterun, “I used to be an adventurer like you, but then….”

It doesn’t kill YOU… just your dreams and aspirations. Right?

Triage, if you will.

Of course they have higher priorities, and this wouldn’t be a big deal if it didn’t happen with such wild abandon for years without a solution. As far as money goes – the best estimate for what Kong sold for is between 12-40 million dollars. They make more money than you could imagine every day – and 35 full-time employees that achieve that is any investors dream come true. They could buy every employee a $500K house and still be in the green.

The issue here is that this will obviously be an ongoing issue, so why NOT hire 5 employees and form a ‘community standards’ team? I’m sure a few people could use a job.

The only solution that I can think of that can be immediately implemented with results is what I stated originally – about setting up a ‘max allowable score’ (or minimum, depending on the type of game), which of course, would be on the developers end to fill in the variable’s value, but it would be part of the Kong API. This is a very, VERY simple solution, but it would require a little work on the Kong side, as well as developer cooperation. Kongregate’s high score event handler would either accept the submitted score if it’s below the ceiling, or report the user if it’s above. Granted, this wouldn’t work for certain high scores, and not at all for open-ended games.

For example: http://www.kongregate.com/games/kupo707/bullet-heaven?tab=achievements

Click on the high score – “A Ranks”. It’s obvious here that the ceiling is probably 25. So any user that would submit 26 or higher for this particular score wouldn’t be able to. Just glancing at the API, it could be implemented simply by adding one parameter to the submit call (edit in all caps):

submit( statName:String, value:Number, LIMIT:NUMBER ):void {}

The developer of this game would simply give Kong a “ceiling limit” value when the game is originally uploaded to the site, or send it along with the stat submission, however Kong wants to do it. It would be the lowest number that is literally impossible to achieve in the game, or the highest number if a low score is better. This won’t eliminate hacking, but at the very least every user has the chance to at least tie for first place, and it will expose any user as a hacker who submits above the limit.

The only other solution would be to set up MD5 or some kind of SSL for submissions.

Right now you could replace them with input forms where users can fill out their own scores with whatever they want.

I’m not sure how this is better than the current boards though.

That was my point.

I cannot understand how Kongregate’s unspoken policy of ignorance can continue to not only allow this behavior

Kongregate has clear policy on what you can’t do on it’s Terms of Use page:

But if you don’t have the means to enforce it, what’s the point?

I would say the burden of proof is on you to demonstrate that they are cheating. As Danaroth said, just because they got some high score does not in itself validate that they have cheated.

I understand – but the impossible scores are the ones that are easily fixed. These users are HANDING you unmistakeable proof that you could be blind and still see, even if you aren’t familar with any of the games or possible scores. But just to make you happy, here’s TWO ENTIRE PAGES OF HACKS on one of the most popular games on the site : http://www.kongregate.com/games/undefined/protector-iv-v ( high scores, all time ).

And screenshots in case you can’t find it, or future reference if these scores get deleted:

I don’t care what game you are playing – 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 is not a valid score.

If you can think of a clever solution to this matter and propose it with detail, it will go much much further than throwing a letter of criticism. If you want a real solution to the problem, think of some and propose it to the Kongregate staff. You can let them solve them problem, or you can put pressure on them to by being part of the problem-solving.

I’d be happy to. (also, see above)

I personally find it irksome when people want ___ feature or complain about ____ and simply continue ranting without providing any form of solution or attempting to solve the problem. You can complaint all you want, but nothing is going to change the situation until a solution is found, and it is a stretch to place the burden of this on the Kongregate team when you yourself have much better experience with the issue by being in the thick of it.

I personally find your attitude irksome. This isn’t a cool new feature. It’s a basic part of the site that is broken. Kongregate is not a tiny site run from a garage. Around 50 MILLION uniques a month, ranked around top 1000 for most of the mature markets worldwide. Greer is getting millions of dollars thrown at him with an IPO possibility. Most if not all of the site’s content is donated free of charge, and there are ads on every single page, and with this much traffic, you can’t tell me for a second that there isn’t a boatload of money coming in from banner impressions. Kongregate is offering a service because it’s a BUSINESS. I don’t work here, but I help support it, just like every other user on this site.

How can you imply that this is OUR fault and OUR problem to deal with? If I personally am “in the thick of it” more than the Kong staff… I’ll send my resume. I’m more than willing to help with ideas, and I’d be willing to code some of them up, but I’m not going to do it for free when Kong is well within its means to hire staff to fix these issues without our help. I don’t understand how the development team wouldn’t know the site a little better than a user, unless the development leaders are just talking heads that outsource everything overseas.

I love this site, if I didn’t I wouldn’t have spent the time to write all of this – but honestly I don’t think that expecting the product to work correctly is not too much to ask, especially when this place has turned out to be as successful as it has.

I’ve been a member of Kongregate for around 4 years now, and I love this site. Wasted many an afternoon ‘accomplishing’ pointless goals and earning points that achieve nothing, but it’s a fun time for sure. I have loved watching it grow from “1200 ONLINE PLAYING 3782 GAMES!” to where it is now.

That being said, there is only one thing about this community that pisses me off to no end. Nothing is worse than spending numerous hours achieving the highest score that gets posted to the board – especially ‘ALL-TIME’, only to find that a week later, some douchebag decides that he’s going to hack his own score in above yours. The only reason I play certain games is because I’m trying to get a higher score – just for bragging rights, because it’s fun. You already understand this, or you wouldn’t have implemented the boards in the first place.

Obviously in any online gaming, (and life in general), you will find asshats that ruin it for the rest of the class because they lack the skill and/or effort to be honest. Also, since I’ve been a Flash developer for around ten years, I understand how relatively simple it is to submit whatever score you want, and it will be impossible to tell (at least without some kind of secure submission process) if someone hacked a score that is completely achievable, but the blatant “F U” scores all over the site are bullshit. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen multiple submissions of people who have achieved scores that are LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to get if you play the game completely perfectly without error. AND – sometimes on the first day it’s released, by MULTIPLE users. This has to stop. Every single one of these users should be deleted, or at the very least have all of the cheating points/badges removed.

Unless Kongregate is only concerned with unique infrequent traffic and returning frequent users, I really don’t think they realize how it makes the site look when there is absolutely NO penalty for cheating.

I cannot understand how Kongregate’s unspoken policy of ignorance can continue to not only allow this behavior, but AWARD these users, who are publicly admitting to cheating all over the site, and who are completely unafraid of any consequences. I can understand not wanting to lose users, but that’s exactly what you are doing by not reacting to this situation. Game developers tried to ignore this stuff when online multiplayer gaming first started – and then they realized that users were bailing and buying other games because they were sick of getting head-shot through walls as soon as they respawned. I understand that cheating the high scores here doesn’t scar the entire experience for some people – but for others, it destroys the only reason it still gets any playtime.

I’m willing to bet that there are many long-time visitors (who even have the decency to turn off ad-block so you can make money), who are getting completely fed up with this ignorance, but don’t think that mentioning something about it will ever fix the problem. If we are silent about this, it will never be addressed.

I’m done with high scores until this is addressed publicly. It cannot be difficult to set a ceiling score for games that don’t go on forever. Anyone who submits a score higher than the ceiling is automatically reported to admin, and users should be able to report obnoxious scores.

If you don’t want to deal with it, then REMOVE THE HIGH SCORE BOARDS. Right now you could replace them with input forms where users can fill out their own scores with whatever they want.

This community has NO INTEGRITY whatsoever if this continues to be allowed.

I’m with you guys – I’ve literally cleared every map of every old dungeon, opened every chest, and talked to everyone. I’m guessing that the key is to get Gloria in Canonia to help you out, but she still says that she knows something, and won’t tell me. I’m about to give up.
